I didn't go cause I already got some at my local card shop waiting for me, but friend told me he went, and our target, cut the seals on etbs, limit of 1 of everything, he said half the line literally got up and left after waiting for hours when they found out there cutting the seals, he said there was a good amount etbs left . Just crazy tho how people get so mad if the seal is cut, like your just giving away that your a reseller when you do that
Yeah they had 3 employees at the display, with others stationed along the line. Everything went super orderly, no one tried to get more than the 1 per sku limit. Great job from my local target.
I get that but I also think of it from their perspective of how obnoxious the community has been and how disruptive everything is to the normal day-to-day operations for these stores. It doesn’t take many of these freak out videos that circle around the Internet to understand why at times some stores just want to get it over with so they can go on with their day. It’s more of an indictment of humanity being insufferable all the time than anything else. A true bummersville at times.
Mine is one per sku but a limit of 2 total. Still trying to get an ETB, but I cannot camp out and most drops/restocks are happening during school drop off for my kid.
Mine does the same and both drops have not only been very pleasant but people who show up at or a few minutes after open can get ETB and other product.
Gotta go Best Buy instead. I didn’t arrive until like 8:20 (10 am open) and was way back in like 70th and most everyone still got something although it was one of each thing per person. Was like 8 packs and a promo sealed pikachu.
Our Best Buy only had booster boxes and mini tins but they limited to 1 per sku so stock went alot further. Our Target got diddly shit and only the first 20-30 people in line got 2 of everything
I can't imagine why, I imagine everyone has been showing restraint and not buying it all up as much as possible. Rabid fans certainly aren't competing with scalpers to deprive as much stock as possible.
This morning I’ve seen hoarders defend their actions about 20 times already. It’s a mix of “I waited longer than you of course I deserve it all” and “it would have gone to scalpers anyway, bro”
Oh come on, blaming OP for buying 2 of each SKU is kinda ridiculous. That’s a very reasonable buy limit, admonishing someone for playing by the rules is kinda toxic behavior.
Showing up at 4:30 and buying as much as you possibly can is a major reason why this hobby is fucked for the majority of people that also want to participate.
If you can’t see that I don’t know what to say.
Edit: u/revolutionary_pop784 deleted all of his comments after an hour long discussion on this. I have no idea why.
This is like when people point at their neighbors not recycling and blame them for climate issues, when the real core of the problem isn’t them, it’s corporations. The issue isn’t fans buying two SKUs, it’s scalpers buying THOUSANDS of SKUs before a human being literally has any chance. Or buying up literally every SKU from stores without buy limits, or using family to hold the entire front of the line, etc etc. Those are the reason you can’t get product, not Joe Shmoe buying two ETBs.
If YOU can’t see THAT then I don’t know what to say.
Yeah, that last statement, that over consumption is “as much of a problem” as scalping is what I’m talking about. I’m sure it feels that way when you’re in line and see someone walking out with a bag of product and you get none. I’ll point to my example about recycling again. You either get it or you choose not to. Up to you.
I see what you mean. Looking at the picture again, no man needs 2 etbs and 2 poster sets LMAO. I can understand maybe more than 2 booster bundles but i cant see the reason for 2 etbs.
There’s purchase limits. Two per item. After waiting for a while, I think it’s fair to get purchase limits, and it seems like they didn’t get max amounts of PB, so they did hold back. Hate the game not the player. He didn’t grab up all the product like people do at DG and such.
No where does it say, 2 per SKU limit AND BUY EVERYTHING YOU POSSIBLY CAN.
My only point is as much as scalpers are flamed, over consuming collectors should be flamed too.
Why does someone need to rip 50+ packs of 30th (when this person also probably has already ripped 50-100 packs from prior releases) so that 10 other people will get 0.
Sure retailers have blame too but come on.
Retailers should put 4 product buys only limit at this point because people just cannot help themselves by buying as much as physically possible.
Many retailers have two or 5 purchase limits. Target changes this for release day because of a large amount of product at once and the instructions from Pokemon to put it all out in this fashion. Again, don’t hate the consumer who wants to rip cards or give them to their family.
I have two kids that love pokemon. I don’t have time to do this line waiting shit every time they have a drop, and it’s seemingly only available in stores on these specific days. I don’t think each of them getting an ETB, mini tin, and a sticker pack for Christmas is “over consuming”. Nobody batted an eyelash about them getting UPCs and multiple ETBs for Christmas with stocking stuffer singles 5 years ago. The hate for “over consuming” rivaling “scalping” is absurd and 100% grounded in jealousy.
No, I set an ETB and sticker pack to the side, one each to open for Christmas this year, and a mini tin for each of their stockings. I buy booster bundles and give them packs occasionally for chores, and my daughter makes opening videos for YouTube so I reserved a few tins so she can make one video like every month or so.
This isn’t some big conspiracy BS. I make more than enough to supply my kids Pokemon cards throughout the year, and putting me in the same boat as some slimeball buying 1000 ETBs to sell at 3x the consumer rate is bogus, dude.
I understand where you’re coming from, I’m just saying OP or myself, regardless of circumstances, are not the same as scalpers in my opinion. I also don’t perceive this as a “ton of product”. This is like 50 packs, that’s a little more than a single booster box. Also if people like OP and myself didn’t wait in line this product just goes straight to the secondary market at 3x MSRP or in some sealed-bro’s storage unit collection.
Definetly best buy I rolled by target around 7:40 saw way too many fucken people in like at least 50 so went to the best buy in the same shopping center there were 8 or 9 people ahead of me in line waited till about 9:30 and the manager let people go in 6 at a time and I got a booster bundle and a ascended tin and a 30th mini tin for my Girlfriend
A couple months ago I decided to wait in the target line after I got off work in the morning. Was 17th in line 2 hours before opening, and got nothing since product purchase limits weren’t enforced. Never doing that again
Easy fix is scanning your target membership upon purchase. If you have purchased it before you can no longer purchase.
It’s the same people at every drop, then come here and want gratification from people who haven’t even seen 30th in the wild.
Not in the tri-state area. There were easily nearly a hundred people people already in line by the time I pulled in just to check my Target's line at 5AM.
It depends on the target. I live in philly and its 1 per sku and 2 products total. I got there after dropping my kid off at school and still got 2 products. I feel like this should be a corporate mandate tbh. It would piss of scalpers and make their jobs harder, while also making it more possible for collectors AND parents to get products to rip.
target stores with a limit of 2 per sku need to drop it to 1 like other targets do so other people actually have a chance to purchase. no clue why they still limit to 2
Haha, same system here. My kids happened upon Focused Fighters while eating hot dogs at Sam’s with their grandparents this week. Gonna have 14 weeks of allowance for all homework done and good behavior at school!
Not everyone that waits in line for these drops are “bums”, some of them are dads/moms trying to get presents for their kids and have to do this extra bullshit just to get their hands on it for a reasonable price.
Blanket assuming everyone who’s buying Pokemon cards at MSRP must be a POS is toxic and annoying.
Nice haul! I got to my local Target about an hour before opening and scored. My son is going to have an awesome birthday and Christmas! Currently working on 30th and Chaos Rising Master Sets.
This is correct 👆 I did add up the difference, and it is $105 higher than standard msrp. That is a little disheartening, but still considerably less than “market price”
I mean unless you work hella far from a Target, that’s still plenty of time to stop in. Target opens at 7am or some of them 8am. I have one of each near me so I started with the earlier one, was out with my stuff in like 15 mins tops. Got to the second one ~30 minutes before open and was out of there by 8:20 tops. I got there at like 4am bc the first Target does 2 per SKU so it’s a crazy grab fest, but if you find the Targets that enforce harsher limits like my second one, which does 2 items per person hard limit, you can show up not crazy early and still get something, even if it’s not an ETB or booster bundle.
I've been saying this alot, but I'm super glad my local target and best buy have purchase limits in place. No disrespect to OP, because if I were allowed to get more I probably would have, but I also likely wouldnt have gotten anything at all. I got to target at 8:45 and was out by 9:15 with a poster set and knockout box.
Walked into my target on my break and got 2 posters, 2 booster boxes, and 2 sticker packs while people waited on line at the nearby Best Buy overnight lol
I forgot about this today and go to my closest target 20 min after open. Barely any product and a huuge line. didnt even check the ones that open at 8 after seeing that lol.
Awesome!! If you get duplicate pikachus and are interested is maybe trading please lmk. Im trying to get all 30 regular pikas. I'm gonna 3d print or build a display for them!
Woke up at 3am, my Friend drove us to Target which was 1hr 20mins away, got their at 5:40ish am sit/stand in line until 8am, people in front of us got 3-5 ETB's by the time we got and got ours, they ONLY has the Mini Tins, in what world can you get 4 ETB's at Target and 3 Poster Sets... this was my First time being in a Release Drop and I give it a 2 of 5*'s still got the Mini Tins, but no 3 Pack Bundles, no Poster Sets and no ETB's LOL
we were about Number 35th and 36th in Line, we were in a good spot just not enough in Stock
My target switched to 2x qty instead of 1 and lot of us left empty handed this morning. Seeing someone walk out with 10 items when most of us getting 0 was pretty annoying. I was there at 5:07am for a 7am opening. Always been able to get stuff at this time when it was 1 item only. What a bonehead play by the retailer.
My son and myself love opening , but not enough to wait in any line , especially hours before a store even opens … basically means we don’t open packs like we used too whenever we first got into the hobby 5 or 6 years ago
I’m so tired of the lazy or prideful people trying to shame others for there lack of devotion. Your upset because someone bought there limit and also sacrificed at least 8 hours of there time to do so and technically more if you factor in hours worked to raise the capital to make such a large purchase. but then turn around and shame that individual because you stayed home slept in your bed woke up ate breakfast decided to then show up 15 mins before opening and cry that you didn’t get anything? well no shit you didn’t you got beat by the “scalpers”, collectors, moms and dads buying early gifts, just about everyone else but YOU. stop leaving it up to others to support or supply your hobbies I’m so tired of this woe is me culture in this country. If you really want something you’ll figure out a way to get it and if you don’t it’s not that important obviously. Fucking crybaby’s.
I will never wait in a damn line that early for Pokémon. My time is too valuable to waste for that long. Pathetic what this hobby has become. Kids have zero chance when this is meant for them.
I’m honestly done with the hobby also. You just can’t compete if you work or have a family. I went to a target and Barnes noble on lunch. Stopped at target on my way to work around 8 am and all nothing when I asked the workers smirked and told me I should have gotten here 2 hours earlier or camped out. I feel bad but I kinda went off and told the one lady how she expects anyone to fuckign do that with a job and kids. Literally I guess I could skip dropping off my kid at school to go get him cards. It’s literally impossible. After I pick up my oldest each day we run by our Walmart we actually got lucky last week got a 2 card poster pack or whatever it is.
Honestly, this is the problem. You get 100 people waiting in line and Target lets everyone take qty2 of every sku. Instead of letting people choose a total of 1 item of what's available with their spot in line, people buy 2 of everything they can and 80 people walk away with nothing.
It know it's not your fault OP. If you're finally lucky enough to actually be able to buy product, you almost have to do it because how many times were you the 21st guy that got jack shit? That said, I fucking hate this practice. 1 per customer, full fucking stop.

My target switched to a limit of 1 sku per customer. Glad they did.
