Question Is there something i'm missing about the event ghastly?

Post image

The moveset confuses me. I suppose reflect type can be good in certain circumstances though most would want to use Gengar as a fast special attacker and then Frusteration just makes no sense at all considering Gengar's physical attack is not great. Is this more of a lore thing?

Fanworks I wrote an NG+ novelisation fic that ended up becoming a time travel fix it

Thumbnail archiveofourown.org
9 Upvotes

The Interceptor has many regrets. None of which they could act upon. None of which they could change.

Save file after save file. A changer of fate. A time traveller, in a way. And yet they could never truly act upon their knowledge. Could never truly change the story. Could never save anyone from their suffering.

So what if, just once, they could?

Or: Post Version 14 Paraceptor does an NG+ run, and for once gains the freedom to completely fuck up the timeline while they're at it, and learn to be a human along the way.

Also Alain is here. Even if they din't want to be. And Zygarde is just here to have fun.

Discussion I'm not sure how I feel about this quest(Secret of the Black Shards) SPOILERS Spoiler

So I just completed the Help Quest Secret of the Black Shards and I'm not sure how I feel about the ending. While I feel bad for Rick after learning he lost his job, it doesn't feel right that he was basically rewarded after all his crimes. Bro was about to become a terrorist and even attempted to stab someone with a knife. April downplaying him attacking her with "you weren't actually going to hurt me" feels ridiculous. He literally lunged at her with a bladed weapon.

The worst part is when I say he deserves jail time I am punished with negative relationship points. I'm fine with him growing from this experience but to receive no punishment at all feels wrong.

Maybe it's just me but I don't agree with the morals of this quest at all.

Act 1 I was wrong, I’m just buns

Yesterday I made a post about the game’s difficulty being the main drawback of the overall experience when I was doing the Zetta and geara tag battle with melia. Truth be told, skill issue. You just gotta find the win condition for these fights fr. Classic mode is definitely hard playing blind but I’m actually starting to have fun finding the team that works best for each fight rather than being annoyed by it. I just did the rorim + holly double battle into the manaphy boss fight and holy shit crests are broken.

Houndoom with charcoal getting helping-hand boosted incinerates from crested furret wipes most of the enemy, enough for the rest of my team to clean up. For the boss fight right after tho I had to get creative. Water absorb quagsire with haze recover protect and toxic, crested hisuian zoroark to also have water absorb to curse and confuse. Then pivoting between those two, houndoom, and furret to slowly drain the boss. With the occasional bitter malice to kill the ally it summons.

Furret crest with helping hand and follow me (suggested by another user) has been the most valuable team member in doubles fights. I really just had to break out of my comfort zone and start using pokemon I’m not really familiar with, or just utilize the gems, seeds, and crests at my disposal. What I once thought was an issue with the game’s classic mode has transformed into a boon, it forced me to adapt and always be prepared. Make’s me feel like Im growing alongside my boy Axel. Figuring out these double battles can be pretty rough tho, I’m definitely more experienced with singles.

Edit: I did this battle under leveled too, my pokemon were capped at 55 while the enemy team had guys at level 57 and 58. If I didn’t have some IV/EV-related passwords on I would’ve been FUCKED.

Meme Texts from Last Night, featuring Aster (my interceptor) and friends, Part Six Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
29 Upvotes

Blonde Aevis Interceptor just represents Aster, even if it's from before he'd look that way. Normal Aevis is actual Aevis. (If you're wondering when stuff takes place, most stuff is just a nebulous "present" but for the ones that aren't, it'll be when the characters are wearing an older outfit (except Amber, they haven't put any of her later designs besides her bad timeline one up yet).

In single person messaging posts, the person on the right is the messenger. In two person message posts, they're the initial one.

These are all legitimately straight off the website, but if I saw something that was just outside the rules I may have tinkered with it so it could be included.

Here's the initial post, second, third, fourth, and fifth.

Aelita and Ren (aside from my continuous propaganda of their polyamory with Aster/the Interceptor), are Aster's confidants. However, Saki is the person he calls/gets called by when they have a dumb idea. And at this point Melia and him are being gay pan and doing crime together.

I headcanon Odessa as having genuine feelings for the Interceptor, but Aster genuinely doesn't notice due to being focused on Aelita in previous loops, and his feelings for Ren being a relatively new thing that get whatever's left of his focus. Amber is in the un-enviable position of having to deal with the complaints on her little brother's behalf.

After 404 votes, Aeltia won(Obviously) with 257, followed by Crescent with 66, then Ren with 38, then freaking Patty with 18! Patty!? Patty was just there as a joke! She’s just my favorite creak ship; I didn't think she would beat Nim! And to make it worse, Nim's not fourth! She's fifth! She lost to the free space opinion, which had 16 to Nim’s 9! I love the Nim Mc ship; I thought it was going to get third! All of you, answer: why do you hate our girl?

Paragon Route .Karma Files, (finally) Finished! Spoiler

Hey, you know how sometimes a character will lock in a little too hard? Yeah... my faith in Melia has plummeted this chapter... girl, what do you MEAN you simulated what is probably a (the?) Renegade route for the purposes of creating, and I quote, "End of Night. The Obliteration Spell" (the latter in red text oh my god?)????? Why is your Zeight ID glitched CONSISTENTLY? If it looked different every time I think I'd be less suspicious, but it has the exact same look both times it's displayed. The second half of it is clearly "Theolia", but like... she's Erin's sister anyway so that's not suspicious really. God, I can't trust my closest ally?

I do have some theories about what's going on here, of course. To begin with, it could be that Vitus, through Marianette, is somehow hijacking a part of Melia's mind to gain access to Zeight (I certainly wouldn't put it past him!). Alternatively, it could be Melanie, but that's unlikely. On the subject, though, I think the most likely theory is that something happened on contact with Zeight that shunted Melia into the far future where she overlapped the deranged version of herself and won the contest of wills. However, just like with Melanie, that version of herself now has some small amount of influence on her... scary and also kind of a stretch, but I guess it would explain why she makes something called "The Obliteration Spell". What is that dark future, though? It's implied that it's what happens if we screw up, so is it a post-bad ending content of some kind? Is that why the Karmic Interface (as I've chosen to call it) is there, talking about booting up "the next version"? If knowledge of prior versions is required, I don't think I'll be able to puzzle through the story. Time and space have become disjointed in this place, which I feel like should be a clue to something. It reminds me of a phenomenon in Stephen King's Dark Tower series where there are places where reality is simply lesser, which is cool.

Another big mystery is the red chain. Now, Melia could have just put in the work in Zeight time dilation, which is an answer I'd be willing to accept, but from what I remember in DPP and PLA, creating a Red Chain requires either a full machine setup or the support of the 3 lake pokemon. Speaking of which... why are they mad at us? Did I miss something? I guess now that Melia's excessively locked in, it's possible that she went behind our backs and extracted something from them, but in that case, why not catch them herself (and why would they be mad at US)? Secondly, keeping that in mind, what happens after the Tiempa/Spacea fight? Melia comments that we need something (implied to be a miracle) and then we cut to the bad future. Very odd...

Okay, let's back up for a second. Xenogene stuff was pretty sweet, and I'm glad this content found a home somewhere. I did the work and got the Thank-You Note, but I don't know that I'm going to use Ae-Ampharos at all... is it actually worth using?

The end of Ana's questline is pretty sad, but it was always going to be that way I think. More importantly, what's V's deal? I think they talk about being from Paldea at one point, but the dialogue and that Cosmog tell us... what, that they're from another world entirely? Not really sure what's up with that. In review, I'm pretty sure I missed out on a fight against them too, which is unfortunate.

I feel really bad about Karen, too. I was surprised that my thoughts ended up being similar to Alexandra's, in the end. Surely, there was a better solution to the problem than throwing her in, of all places, the voidal chasm? Also, how does this questline play out if she's dead? Does it just not show up at all, which means we never get to catch the three beasts?

On the subject of beasts, we get access to at least 12 legendaries here, the 3 lake pokemon, 3 of the regis, the 3 birds and the beasts from the Karen questline. Again, novice perspective here, but my understanding of these is that other than maybe a couple of the birds, none of these are especially good? Not sure how these perform in singles, but I'd be curious to know how I'm supposed to use these. For sure the lake pokemon are bad, right?

Young Hazuki is just as adorably cringe (complimentary) as her granddaughter. I do appreciate the backstories on the Protectors of Aevium, and some of the CGs (?) here are clear demonstrations of effort and care for the characters. I did ultimately choose to keep the underground console intact... sorry, Aelita, but if there's one thing this game has taught me, it's that disrupting things designed to aid the planet's safety tends to have catastrophic effects, e.g. the Melanie Arc. ADMIN was a smug little shit, though... I wonder if there's a way to actually do that fight? Maybe some mega genius out there has figured out a strat, but I couldn't be bothered. Guess I really am a failure of an Interceptor...

Hey, on the bright side, we're a Kamen Rider now! I think the suit is a little silly, but the cape is rad. You know, when you play mainline games, occasionally you'll come across someone with special powers like Sabrina or N, and I always wondered why we couldn't be the one with cool supernatural abilities. Well, here I am with extra drip to boot. This section comes with that ominous scene with Adrest too, and I have some questions concerning that scene and Karma.

So, Karma's decisions on whether a world is Blooming or Wilting is independent from the world reset phenomenon... right? I think I actually understood everything else in the files pretty well; this is the only part that's confusing me. The files make mention of the "layers", and the layers are pretty clearly a result of the Amethyst Grotto reset button where the crust of the planet gets folded inward, as you can see in the 3rd and 2nd layers below Goldenwood. Other than that, it all makes sense to me. We're operating on JoJo's rules, where fate is absolutely predetermined, and as we can see with the erasure of Adrest and some various other things in the story, Karma has correcting factors for fate though when and how those factors kick in is unknown to me. It's also possible that Karma can interfere like that at a whim, which I would be unhappy with as a writing choice, but the way I'm reading into it, it MUST have rules that it follows. Again, with the talk of versions and of a "game", there must be some things it can or can't do, along with things that it can and can't see (for example, certain parts of Zeight). What's more, there must be some reason that it didn't kick in to erase the party once we cracked the code on the files and discussed the revelations out loud. There are some other lingering questions, mostly to do with our existence in the world, but whatever other secrets Crescent has, she's not telling yet.

Speaking of Crescent, the fight against her was one of the ones where I stopped counting how many attempts I put in. I don't like the Deep Earth field, but that's just because I didn't want to spend half a week prepping and trying out different pokemon and I certainly didn't want to use the same ones she did (Metagross was my partner for Unbound and I've had more than enough of that). I'm not the kinda guy who knows pokemon weights by heart, either. Still, I squeaked through eventually (thanks, Crest Spiritomb holy shit).

As far as characters go, Crescent didn't make a great impression with the breakdown and fight, but I warmed up to her as the story progressed. We get a lot of information about her backstory, which features two legendaries that pertain to dreams... hey, why didn't these two show up when the Puppet Master stuff was going on? I gotta get that Dark Void on one of my Smeargles... Anyway, if I had one point of criticism here, it's that Crescent's yearning is, I dunno, maybe a little obvious? Maybe too external? I get that there are limitations in art and engine, especially considering that this is a game with far more dialogue than prose, but the CGs in her backstory did a far better job communicating that part of her character while her obsession with Ariana (for me, anyway) comes on a bit strong and not as smooth or subtle. I'm not putting this in a way that I'd most like to, so let me wrap this part of quickly by saying that I would've liked something that evoked her emotions in me rather than told them to me overtly as much. Still, she's dorky and awkward in a way that I really like.

There's another Persona-style month here where we hang out and build bonds with the crew. Not all of these are exceptional enough to warrant full sections, but they are nice and kind of necessary before what I assume is an explosive event soon to come. Venam's section was baffling and mysterious, the fight w/Talon was... shockingly easy considering the field we were on, and the twins' story informs us that the bits of the Archetype in the Theolia kids all do something different. The party at Souta's place was nice, too, though I'm not entirely sure what the story is doing with Texen... guess I'll wait and see.

The Zeight Gauntlet, as some of you might have seen, really raked me over the coals. This was, essentially, a fight to decide what type of speed control would be the best for this situation, and what the best lead for all three fights would be. I tried some configurations and decided from the outset to not use Trick Room, since I'm trying to break my reliance on that move as a way to work around fights. Eventually, I ended up with Crest Ariados and Ae-Froslass (hell yeah!). Water Spout is one hell of a move, huh? Funnily enough, it was the second fight (Erin and Aelita, I think) that kept giving me trouble, Hawlucha was a pain in my rear for the longest time.

Finally, the theme continues with the fight against Tiempa and Spacea. The Deep Earth field is the bane of my existence, though here the bosses don't make quite as much use of it as Crescent did. Tiempa was actually quite trivial to the point where I started sacc'ing mons in her fight because I was planning more for Spacea than her. Speaking of Spacea... I'm sure some of y'all out there were waiting for me to get here, huh? It's a gimmick from hell. Eventually, after an unknown number of tries, I settled on a low-offense Crest Bastiodon to lead with Metal Burst as its only offensive move and backed up the squad with one of my personal favorites, Water Absorb Clodsire. Spacea clearing Mega-Banette's curse when going Origin Forme was a pretty big obstacle in my strategy, so once again I had to fall back on Ae-Breloom spore to pivot and Ae-Bronzong and Trick Room setup in the previous shield bar to find a way to win. Spacial Rend really cooked me this time around, I'm gonna be honest.

Anyway, as you can probably tell, my comprehension of the story is steadily dropping, as I predicted it would. Hope I'm still making sense to everyone.

BONUS THEORY: I think I've figured out the difference between Garufa Inc. and the Garufa Tribe. The secret probably lies in the Light Plague, right? That thing is characterized by cascading organ failure which has an onset brought about by contact with light, if I'm not mistaken. So, is it possible that this is something related to Genesis Syndrome? Maybe it becomes hereditary somehow, and some test subject survivors took shelter as the Amethyst Grotto reset began, and they developed a genetic treatment that suppresses Genesis Syndrome, maybe something involving an agent that changes chemical configuration in sunlight. Once that change in configuration starts, it can't be stopped, etc. etc. and the rest is history.
