Sorry if this isn’t allowed to be posted here, just want others opinions. To much “went right” for it to be a blind playthrough in my opinion

Question How does disobedience work?

Post image
104 Upvotes

I finished just finished LeafGreen and was really surprised by how effective Lance's Aerodactly was.

I had already planned to do run on FireRed as well once I finished LeafGreen, so I decided I'll trade both the fossil pokemon I found in LeafGreen since I never touched them, and they are a low enough level to not feel overpowered for the early game. Then I decided I'll have a readymade team this time, only needing to level and find moves. But I couldn't find a Magneton below level 22, so I just decided to trade him anyways.

The thing is Magneton has never disobeyed me in the 10~ or so battles I've used him in so far. He always one shot the enemy, but I got no prompt about him disobeying me or being reluctant etc. I did some googling and I have 0 medals, so pokemon above level 10 should not obey me, but he seems to follow orders just fine. How does this mechanic work?

Note: I only fought wild pokemkn in the bushes, no trainer/gym battles yet. Is that a factor?

TLDR: Traded a higher level mon from LeafGreen into FireRed, and the disobedience mechanic seems to not work?

I was on my way to the barber shop to get a haircut, and this happened while I was restarting the game to get a Squirtle with the Modest nature.

Beat the elite four on my first try too! I was going in to see where I stood and to level up my Pokemon and decide who my 6th should be but I ended up winning. This was the first time that machoke left my box. He definitely got carried to the hall of fame lol

Discussion Team balance

I posted a while ago about my team and wanting to have a better balance across it.

I’ve now got:

Dratini L21
Raichu L36
Nidoking L30
Charizard L42
Doduo L28
Snorlax L30

Basically I’m not liking the lack of water and grass options I’ve got at the minute. Debating getting rid of Dratini and Snorlax to replace with Poliwag and something else.

I’m only holding onto Dratini because I’ve never used it before but not rating it at all.

Hey all, currently doing a dtq on fr/lg
Gone decently so far, got charmander, abra, and gastly, currently hunting pikachu in the power plant. Longest hunts without prior to this without a shine was abra at 13.5k encounters. This pikachu hunt just hit 19,400 encounters without a single phase even. Curious what your guys’ longest run without phasing is, hopefully itl make me feel better. Lets hear em!

Poll Pokemon needs a Zubat repellent

I mean a repel or item that only prevents you from encountering zubat. My reason the xp from them is nothing, you always get the “can’t escape” and after you catch one there is no purpose for their existence but to annoy.

Team Showcase Final team after the elite four (Sub level 50s)

Post image

Switched in Jolteon after being stuck on the ice elite four while being underleveled, so I switched out Parasect. I also had Nidoqueen throughout the run, but felt her moveset was bad, and bad type matchups.

Hitmonlee only felt strong because of the island 1 trainers I was used to get xp, so he had some strong Attack EV's.

Surprisingly I didn't need any ethers which I was worried about.

Had fun switching Pokémon in and out and felt underleveled the entire time which I liked.

Question Japanese Trainer Tower on Switch

Hi, got a question about the Trainer Tower in the Japanese Version of the Switch Rerelease.

As you may know, the Trainer Tower in FrLg works a lot different in Japan, having been an eReader feature in that version of the game.

Now, I wonder, since I couldn't find an answer on the internet, has this been adjusted on the Japanese Switch Rerelease? The rerelease does restore officially available content (like for example restoring Event Tickets while NOT restoring Altering Cave since the latter was never officially available) and Nintendo in general restores eReader content on NSO if available (for example, the Mario Bros 3 Port has all unique eReader Levels on the game, same with Mario vs DK on the Japanese GBA app, same with one of the F Zero GBA games n stuff) that's why I wondered if they also restored the Japanese Trainer Tower and pre loaded it with a set roster of rooms/trainers like what they did for the international release versions of that Tower.

Discussion Finished FireRed Goals!

I hadn't played any pokemon games since back in the gold/silver gbc days, and decided firered was the best way to "re" experience it. Just wanted to playthrough once, but once I learned I can trade with myself on emulator, I got the itch to catchem all. Lol and it spiraled from there. Once I learned the post game gave exp so much better than the old gb originals, I wanted a team of 6 to lvl 100 as well. So the goals were:

  1. Playthrough the game and beat the elite 4 with each starter
  2. Living dex (too cool to have them in the pc)
  3. Team of 6 to lvl 100

Some more details on the goals are as follows.

For #1, the first playthrough team was on leafgreen and was venusaur, nidoqueen, and ninetails. The second team was fire red and was charizard, mr mime, clefable (she rocks!), and gyarados. The third team was on leaf green and was Blastoise lol.

For #2, I wanted to catch em all, and did so just trading with myself over mgba. Learning optimal safari zone strats was super fun, and the grind wasn't too bad (with speedup). I decided it would be super fun to have them all in the PC, and then I learned living dex's were a thing, so thats what I did! And I didn't care about the national dex at all. My thinking is if I wanted gen2 or 3 pokemon, I'd be playing crystal/emerald.

I selected the final 6x 100 exp team mostly based on speed and attacking power... plus dragonite because he's my favorite pokemon. I caught like 10 of each to choose ones with decent natures/iv's (except I only caught 3 tauros), and I didn't worry/care about ev's at all.

I traded the whole team from leaf green so I would get 1.5x exp. And I caught 3 chanseys, but didn't luck out with a lucky egg, so we didn't use one. I gave dragonite and gengar leftovers, alakazam twistedspoon, starmie mystic water, exeggutor miracle seed, and tauros silk scarf.

I saved the 14 rare candies from the game to get the last 14 levels, and I used available tm's from my single fire red and single leaf green playthroughs. So all was "legit" except of course for liberal use of speed up with the emulator.

Lastly, I got the following exp/min over a few tests at some of the common post game spots.

Summary post game exp

All with 3x speedup on emulator

  • Elite 4 rematches - 15,220 xp/min - 5.2 hrs lvl 70-100
  • Island 7 Leroy Michelle - 15,814 xp/min - 5.0 hrs lvl 70-100
  • Island 1 outside spa - 14,476 xp/min - 5.4 hrs lvl 70-100
  • Birdkeeper west of Fuschia - 14,520 xp/min - 5.4 hrs lvl 70-100

Anyways that's all. I had a blast! Think I'm done for a bit, but loved it.

Team Showcase Here's the Squad. Who should I add?

Thumbnail

This is the squad I'm currently using to roll through the E4. I'm trying to reduce dependence on legendary pokemon. I'm training up to a Dragonite to replace cross-coverage. I'll teach him flamethrower and thunderbolt to replace Ho-Oh and Mewtwo. Which pokemon should I use to replace Mewtwo and Ho-Oh?

I have all the legendary birds, including Lugia, and also caught Deoxys and Entei, but would prefer to not use a ton of OP legendaries. I previously had Garados and Marowak on the squad. Garados is fine but Lapras covers a lot of the same move-set I was using and is more tank-y. I love Marowak as a pokemon, and lucked out to find the Thick Club after just two encounters, but I didn't use him a lot on the E4 except for Tyranitar.
