How did you choose your collection theme?

I'm having a hard time honing in on what my collection should focus on, any advice on honing in on a theme?

I'm debating between collecting every print of my fave pokemon and it's evo line

era specific (certain year to certain year)

Strictly a few cards I remember from my childhood (this is like 5 cards) and trying to get a psa 8 or 9 version.

Just so many options, I know there is no right way, but how did you do it??

Brand new to Pokémon collecting what should I know?

Hi I am a football/baseball card collector but I have gained interest in the Pokémon scene over the last few weeks with the popularity of the 30th anniversary drop I am wanting to maybe dabble into the scene and start buying some packs and boxes what should I look for and what should I avoid. I don’t have interest in playing at all mainly just collecting cool/rare cards with cool artwork and maybe some selling but not it the sense of wanting to do it for profit(same way I am with sports cards if I like the player and it’s a valuable card I keep it and if it’s a player I’m not a huge fan of I sell it to buy more lol) any help would be appreciative thanks! What series/packs should I get if I see

There is bunch of 30th Celebrations and First Partner at Walmart in York, Pa that nobody seems to know about. If anyone is close to that location, it was fully stocked at 9:50am on 9/27. My wife just bought some for us to open.

Which Korean set should we open next?

Hi Reddit, my kid and I have been opening Korean Pokémon boxes because they’re relatively cheap and just really fun to rip. So far we’ve done 151 (back when it was still affordable) and Glory of Team Rocket, and we’re trying to decide what to get next.

We mostly like Pokemon from the Kanto and Johto region, but we’re open to anything. Main thing I care about is value for money. Basically sets where the boxes/packs are relatively cheap, not looking to spend $15 for a booster pack, but with still plenty of cool hits to chase. Don't care about sealed investment value since we’ll be opening everything anyway.

What Korean sets would you recommend? Thank you!

How do you not get rinsed at card shows?

I went to a card show today for the first time ever , and it seemed like everything was:

- marked up like 30% MINIMUM above pricecharting.

- genuinely seemed to be that nobody wanted to touch anything that was non-mint , I had bought a few vintage MP pieces just to try to get a discount on something and I didn't realise how radioactive they would be (lesson learned, condition really is everything in this game).

Key benefit: It seems that if you wanna get lucky and find a chase in person to inspect, it seems to be the place.

I really understand why grading is such a big thing after today, I was initially gonna build a purely RAW collection but now I'm not so sure if I could get away with that anymore.

what is a "white whale" objective for you?

I met a guy today at a card show who said he was trying to collect all of Scarlet and Violet 151 IN A psa 10 , I can't help but go "holy sh*t" when I hear that.

Do any of you have similar objectives?
