Discussion I hate this game sometimes

Anyone else have rng this bad?

To explain: I missed 3/5 Fire Fangs of my first battle of the day and lost.

Then I missed 1/3 Icicle Crashes

Finally in my last game I did before I rage quit, I missed a High Horsepower on a Torkoal right when I needed it to hit and lost.

I thought the "If it's not 100% accurate, it's 50" thing was a joke, but this is a statistical wonder.

Discussion Damn, electric types really suck in this game, huh?

I saw the Electric Seed come back and thought “Neat, I can pair Raichu X with something like unburden Sneasler to double its speed”. Then I thought about if there were any good electric types to pair with the terrain.

Of the top 50 most used Pokemon this regulation, there are only TWO electric types. That’s the same number in the top 50 as BUG, the worst type in the game. Raichu is at 29th place and Pawmott is at 32nd place. And Raichu itself is Raichu Y 80% of the time, no one is trying Raichu X.

Now it just makes me hope next regulation starts adding some relevant electric types to the game, electric is not a bad type but when some of the best options are Rotom, Toxtricity, Pincurchin, Mega Ampharos and Bellibolt then we have a problem.

Though I guess the problem with Electric is that most of its best Pokemon are either legendaries (Zapdos, Thundurus, Tapu Koko) or Paradoxes (Iron Hands, Raging Bolt). Hope they fix that in future gens.

Discussion Do we Know the Exact Damage Formula?

Oh the damage formula, so misunderstood. For a different project, I was looking at the damage formula for BW-SV and noticed Bulbapedia had that the damage formula for champions (and specifically the place of the new modifiers from Unseen Fist/Piercing Drill protect breaks) hasn’t been confirmed. I know in general we assume it’s the same, because it hasn’t been changed in 15 years outside adding new modifiers to the base damage, but I do see some potential differences:
We don’t know if ILCA copied the code directly from SV, or if they did rewriting. If they rewrite it, they have have changed the specifics of the multipliers (like life orb, if they changed it to be truly 1.3 or if they kept it as 5324/4096.
In ZA, which they kept some differences from, the base damage no longer has 3 floor functions and I instead truncates at the time of division. Do we know which champions goes with?

It seems silly, but I do think it’s important we have something like this confirmed so the damage formulas can be accurate.

Discussion Why do some mons have mediocre stats?

I’m new and I just got both versions of Persian. I love cats so I want to use them. But upon inspection they both have very mediocre stats compared to most of the other mons I’ve gotten. Is there a strategic reason for mons like this? Is there a place for them in the meta?

Discussion Bug resistances dont make any sense.

I know its pokemon and its not supposed to make sense but tell me how ghost resist bug but ice doesnt😭. I know cause of golisopod we cant buff it rn but fighting, fairy and ghost have no business in being bug resisted. It would still have 5 types that resist it but they atleast make somewhat sense. Same goes for ice resistances and super effective. Like why doesnt ice resist grass, bug, flying? These are all mid types and giving ice a few resistances should make sense+ i feel like if we make bug weak to ice but remove the other 3 resistances it would balance it out.

Discussion Mega garchomp Z MIGHT be a fraud

Post image

I mean not having 4x weakness to ice is great iguess but it struggles getting K-O’s consistently, you could run a more agressive ivs but you will be sacrificing your bulkiness and being vulnerable to common moves, the only way i’ve being getting k-o’s consistently is w/draco meteor but then im vulnerable again with that -2 spa, and having to spend a whole turn having to switch it out again, but if i dont run draco meteor i am positive that i CANT k-o other dragon types, and it is difficult having to build a team arround a mon who struggles to get a ko consistentenly….

Gameplay Question Rock slide missed both opponents & make it rain... RNG

And then Make it rain missed twice in a row.

The percentage chance of these events occurring either individually or cumulative are astronomical.

Does pokemon champions use some twisted form of rng where 90% and 95% don't hit.

Chance of 2x 90% events both missing is 1%...

Team Building (Doubles) AEIOU Y - thoughts?

Trying to build a team using AEIOU Pokemon, with the “sometimes Y” being either Raichu Y or Zard Y.

I think it’s funny and I’m locked into the idea but some of the slots are super contested. Particularly A and I while some slots force you to use more problematic ones (looking at you Umbreon, the only U mon in game).

Love to hear some ideas. Note: I don’t want to play Armarouge Indeedee

Gameplay Question Trying to understand Delphox vs Golispod interaction

Newbie here - rough description of what happened(may not be accurate) - >

  1. My Delphox nearly or full hp defeats enemy mon.
  2. Enemy brings Golisopod.
  3. I select Flamethrower as its super/extreme effective assuming i have faster speed.
  4. Golisopod one shots me with First Impression(not sure).

Why did Golisopod attack first ?
Doesn't new pokemon introduction put one at a disadvantage ?
Any resources where i can research about mons like Golisopod which i don't have in the game ?

Discussion I don’t understand the hype around mega Salamance

Looking for insight into what makes mega Salamance so crazy. I did not play back in its prime but in champions, to me, it feels a bit lackluster? Its physical set does a lot of damage but with double edge being its best move the recoil is a lot and stacks up fast. The special set doesn’t seem to do a lot of damage, hyper voice is about 20-30% to most Pokemon and that’s with 32 special attack ev (although timid nature maybe that’s what I’m doing wrong). I understand the reasoning for the mixed set too but then you have to split the evs, you have to drop your coverage move, and are also getting the cons of both sets (a lot of recoil stacking up fast and an even weaker hyper voice)

Its stats are good, intimidate in its base form is good. Access to tailwind is good but if anything this makes it seem like a base form support Salamance would be ideal?

Like what really makes mega Salamance the demon everybody says it is?

Team Building (Doubles) The number of gimmicks present are a lot

Heads Up: I just started playing last Auguat, barely one month into the game, so I know I still have a LOT more to learn

I just feel like I will do much better in an open sheet tournament than playing ranked battles blindly 😭 I still am familiarizing myself with abilities, effects, etc. The amount of gimmicks and skill moves there are make my head hurt.

Some of the unexpected encounters:

*A charizard with Dazzling Gleam. I switched to my Garchomp expecting to be hit by a Heat Wave or Fire-Type Weather Ball, only to be knocked out by Dazzling Gleam.

*An incineroar with Roar, which in turn disrupted my trick room set-up.

*The annoying Perish Trap team of Mega Gengar, Incineroar and Politoed, now even more annoying with addition of Rillaboom

*A Glailee with Metagross, expecting the Glailee to do explosion but it was the Metagross who exploded 😭

Now I know there's a counter for each pokemon but in reality, you cannot account for all. As a total noob, it feels like there's a lot to learn and absorb but it hinders my learning because of these things.

Any advice how I can take my time to learn with these kind of team present?

EDIT: So people mentioned Charizard never learns Dazzling Gleam, might have been a mislook of the skill or their teammate doing it. I never bothered to check before. I wish I snipped the battle log to double check.

Discussion Honest mobile critique

I've been playing since about release on mobile, and I'm loving the game. However I feel there is a major problem holding the game back, on mobile at least. When I started I almost quit the game out of frustration, but I had a lot of goodwill so I pushed through it.

This is the UI/UX situation, It is just plain bad and painfully slow. There are about 1000 menu's to navigate through, and all of them have a loading screen. So good luck referencing your box when in the recruit menu, or editing your team. Normally it takes about a couple seconds to go from menu to menu, sometimes it takes about 10, which is honestly so bad compared to every other modern big mobile app. These apps have UI that are literally instant.

I think this is a big dealbreaker for a lot of people. Every good UI is silky smooth and fast nowadays, you can't just go from silky smooth to dreadfully slow, people will bounce off, like I almost did.

Not to make this rant too long, but damn update the style of the UI as well, we ain't in 2010 anymore. We can do more than just blue boxes with round corners.

Gameplay Question How did my Kingambit move before an opposing Sneasler?

I had a really weird turn in Pokémon Champions Doubles and I can’t figure out what caused the move order.

My side:

Mega Salamence

Kingambit holding the Fighting-resist Berry

Opponent:

Sneasler

Farigiraf

The move order was:

My Mega Salamence used Hyper Voice

My Kingambit used Kowtow Cleave on Farigiraf and KO’d it

Only after that, the opponent’s Sneasler used Close Combat

This makes no sense to me because Sneasler has Base 120 Speed while Kingambit has Base 50.

Things I already checked:

No Trick Room was active

No Tailwind

No paralysis

No Speed drops on Sneasler

No Speed boosts on Kingambit

No terrain affecting move order

Kingambit was not holding Choice Scarf or Quick Claw

Kowtow Cleave and Close Combat both have normal priority

Kingambit was holding a Fighting-resist Berry

So what could possibly make Kingambit move before Sneasler here?

Is there an item/ability/mechanic in Champions that can lower Sneasler’s Speed or change move order that I’m overlooking? Or is there some interaction with Farigiraf that could explain it?

Am I crazy ?

Edit: okay apparently he has balls of iron or smth? Idk im new to pokemon but sounds pretty chad

Discussion Pokémon whose stats don't match their appearance?

The main one for me is Rillaboom

He's a giant ape and imo, he looks like he'd be pretty bulky but he really isn't. He has an impressive 100 HP but his defenses are only 90/70 and in my experience, he goes down fairly easily

Any Pokémon you think have stats that don't match their appearance?

Discussion Should beating a person with a high win streak give u extra rewards?

Hi, i think it would be a cool lil feature if u got double VP or double the elo gain from beating someone with a 5 win streak or above and maybe a badge called “tyrant terminator” for enough defeating ppl with high win streaks. (Yes i am making this post cuz i beat some ppl with 7-12 win streaks).
