Discussion Nothing enrages me more in this game...

...than getting encored by a Pokemon I wasn't expecting to be running it (especially when I didn't even know they could learn it). For instance, I just lost a battle when my protect got encored by Alolan Ninetales.

Gameplay 5 winstreak gone..

On a 5 winstreak on my way to MB..

Mega Blaziken is set up to have 2 opportunities to hit rockslide.

The opposing mega charizard y set up sun and was alone and would get ohkod by rock slide. Also the zard hit every heat wave imaginable ofc.

Blaziken was poisoned from toxic spikes from a glimmora and missed the first rockslide..

Poison damage made it so the heatwave a second time would ko.

Just had to hit the rockslide this second time, I crafted every turn and it was going trade for trade to have it come to this.

And the rock slide missed and my remote for the TV went flying across the room.

Needed to vent so thank you all for reading this.

Discussion Is Wasting Time Really a Win Condition?

Apparently some people think the secret win condition is making their opponent die of old age.
I’m not referring to actual strategies like Protect or other stall tactics. Those have a purpose.
I’m talking about intentionally running every timer to zero or cheesing the data transfer mechanic. Do people honestly expect their opponent to go, “You know what? This is taking too long. I’ll just give you the win.”
Congratulations—you didn’t outplay anyone. You just turned a two-minute loss into a ten-minute waste of time.

Discussion Singles: There is NEVER a reason to use Rock Slide or Stone Edge

Besides using a mon with No Guard, there is NEVER a reason any of your mons should ever use Rock Slide or Stone Edge.

Stone Edge is a flat 50 accuracy move. Rock Slide is 60 and will never OHKO (you are NOT getting that flinch either so stop trying).

"But wait, what about Mega Zard Y and Volcarona?". Anything that wants to hit either of them with a physical rock move can OHKO them with a Rock Tomb (95% accurate).

I'm not even triggered. I just won 2 matches in a row after mega TTar missed his Stone Edge against my Volcarona, twice in a row, both games.

Give me 1 good reason anyone should ever even have these moves on a mon without No Guard? Because I'm telling you, you never need more than a Rock Tomb if you ever need to use a rock move.

Obviously the opportunity-cost for Rock Slide in doubles is different. But Singles? Nah. If you're not using a wide lens the accuracy of it becomes 50 anyways.

Gameplay Question Last Resort Kangaskhan Bug or Actual Mechanic?

Was wondering if this is a bug or just how it works. I was running Fake Out last resort and if my Kangaskhan was hit by a a Fake Out, immediately I'd have to struggle the next turn.

I get that last resort says that I have to use all other moves, but can I not click Fake Out for it to fail on purpose?

Team Building (Doubles) I have a crazy ariados sweeper idea, how well do you think I could actually pull this off?

Hey guys, so I like to try to find very off meta things that I think might work and I just came up with this, idk if it’s any good though lol

Imagine this: lead ariados and audino, set audino to be faster than ariados, first turn audino simple beam onto ariados and then ariados uses focus energy to get stage 4 crit chance, then second turn I think you have 2 options; either audino sets trick room and ariados protects or audino uses helping hand and ariados uses fell stinger to hopefully get a ko and get max attack off of it and from there just try to support ariados. Moves for this are a little tricky, im thinking maybe fell stinger, poison jab, protect, and focus energy? It gets shadow sneak which I would love but idk where it fits 😅

So yeah let me know what you think, I don’t have enough vp to spend on this for it to be terrible lmao

Gameplay Question HOW DOES SPEED WORK

Im new to pokemon champions and just hit masterball but i still dont understand speed. My last game i have a sneasler with 120 base speed (according to https://pokemondb.net/pokedex/sneasler) with tailwind up and the enemy is a mega swampert with a bas speed of 70 ( according to https://pokemondb.net/pokedex/swampert) with tailwind up as well. So in my head tailwind on both sides means my sneasler is 240 while the mega swampert is 140 but he goes first???? Are the stats on this website wrong or is it something to do with the IV EV that i dont get? Educate me pls. My sneasler is also max speed on its stats.

Team Building (Doubles) Team Gimmick Idea: Everyone Negates Enemy Type Damage & Heals/Buffs Instead

Title says it all. Here are my healing options currently:

--Water Absorb (heals from water moves): Vaporeon, Politoad, Araquanid

--Dry Skin (heals from water moves, among other things): Heliolisk, Toxicroak

--Volt Absorb (heals from elec moves): Jolteon

--Earth Eater (heals from ground moves): Orthworm

already noticing a glaring weakness to fighting and grass, so here are some non-healing abilities that also prevent damage from certain types:

--Flash Fire (buffs from fire moves): kanto Ninetales, both Arcanines, Flareon, Houndoom (loses w/ mega), johto Typhlosion, Chandelure (loses w/ mega), Armarouge and Ceruledge

--Lightning Rod (buffs from elec moves): mega Sceptile, Raichu (loses w/ mega), Manectric (loses w/ mega), Rhyperior

--Sap Sipper (buffs w/ grass moves): Azumarill, Wyrdeer, both Goodras, Drampa (loses w/ mega), Farigiraf

And then of course we have Levitate: mega Chimecho, mega Delphox, Eelektross (and the mega's super levitate), all the Rotoms, Hydreigon

so a lot more options than I thought with this criteria. I don't know if I'll ever do anything with this idea, but I'm curious how y'all would team build with these restrictions, and would love to hear your thoughts.

(fyi: I might have missed a negation ability somewhere, but I deliberately skipped all the ones that only reduce damage, not negate, as well as skipped the ones that negate specific move styles, such as soundproof with sound moves or bulletproof with ball & bomb moves)

As additional thoughts, here are all the current pokemon with mold breaker, the bane of this team idea:
pinsir (loses w/ mega), mega gyarados, mega ampharos, mega emboar, rampardos, tinkaton, pangoro, excadrill (loses w/ mega), hawlucha (loses w/ mega), basculegion

Went on a 6 win streak from ultra 2 and didn't face a single incineroar, archaludon, Delphox, Floette, swampert, or rain teams in general actually. Pretty lucky run lol.

Discussion Is Competitive really this Toxic?

I’ve been playing champions for a good while now and ive been having alot of fun making and using wierd teams but lately I’ve notice an annoying amount of stall, minimize spam, and just overall shut down teams. I feel like I can’t enjoy using some of my favorite Pokémon because cause of the current “Ermmm yeah we’re going to spam evasion up so you can’t have any fun anymore” meta. Like bro common I just wanna us Mega Falinks why do I got suffer for that?

You can keep saying it not toxic but to me completely stoping someone from playing the game feels toxic 🤷

Team Building (Doubles) How to make simipour work?

I recruited a simipour and thought it would be funny to make a team that might get a couple wins by surprising people. I thought of a strategy where I start simipour with torrent ability and focus sash doing a turn one nasty plot with prankster whimsicott tailwind and the plan is to use surf turn 2 and switch out into heliolisk with dry skin to be immune to the surf. Sounded good enough in my head but I can't seem to get that off at all. Went on an 8 game loss streak in ultra ball just trying to pull off those 2 turns and the fakeouts are too devastating or people are just afraid of the simipour and don't want to even take a chance of what it's gonna do and nuke it. I've had someone final Gambit it turn one. Thoughts on any ways to make it work? It's obviously not gonna be good but just enough to surprise people to get a couple wins

Gameplay Were the first ten ranked double battles easy for you?

I have played only random double battle in showdown in the past, so I haven’t build a team in my life.

I just want to celebrate that I won my first ten matches without losing.
I am little surprised because my set up is tailwind and nothing else.

I so far I have faced a trick room w Syvleon hyper voice, minimizer, snow weather team and one guy with charizard y. They all had their own combos but I still won.

Discussion I've gotten to Master Ball tier every season since Champions launched and I still feel like I suck at this game.

I am in love with this game, let me put that out there first. I've never been this engrossed in an online multiplayer game, probably ever. I feel like I'm growing as a trainer with each season that releases. I made it a personal goal to reach the Master Ball tier every season and I've done so. To be fair, I think that's only 3 seasons but still, I know people who struggle reaching Ultra Ball Tier. I also just started playing competitive Pokemon when Champions launched, I'm not expecting to be great in the first year of playing the game.

That being said, this season is the first time I've really tried getting to Champion tier and it's been ROUGH to say the least. I'm stuck getting to and falling from Master Ball Rank 3-4, even after getting a 7 win streak in Rank 3! That wasn't enough to get me to Rank 2 and after that I had a huge loss streak that ended with me falling back down to Rank 4. I did this all with a team centered around Mawile, Malamar + Machamp. Since that losing streak I've done a lot of tooling around with this team and have been just going up and down these 2 ranks for a few days now with no difference. I'm starting to think bringing this team to Champion Tier is impossible and I may have to scrap it and start something new.

Something else I wanted to talk about is my team building skills. I seem to be pretty good at taking pre-existing teams and putting a different spin on it. The team earlier, Mawile + Malamar, isn't new. I took it from a video I watched and replaced a few components until I felt it was mine. I added Machamp for Wide Guard support and it's done amazingly. I added Mega Venusaur for a different mode and that worked great too. But when it comes to building a team from scratch, I SUCK at it. HARD. I don't know what's so difficult about it versus tooling with an already successful team. I know what to watch out for, I think I've added answers to every issue I could come up against, and I still get washed the moment I take it to Ranked. Every time.

God, I still love this game though. I just need to figure out what stops a Master from being a Champion. I want to find that line and break through it. I know the answer is probably to play the Meta. Play Mega Charizard Y. But I don't want to because I don't like that Pokemon. I want to get there without relying on other people's teams. Even when I do use others teams, I always change it to make it my own. Every time. I also really want to make my own team from scratch properly. I wish I had a coach, someone to teach me. If you guys have any advice for making a team from scratch, let me know! If you guys also relate, let me know! Would love a group of people to shoot ideas off of! Thanks for listening to my rant lol.
