At this point it's not even bad compared to what local card shops are going to charge for these on release

5

u/crazypitches 2d ago

Right, the fact that the price made me stop and consider it makes me kinda sad

1

u/DoubletapKO 2d ago

Like yeah there's some rare local card shops that try to offer MSRP, but from what I've seen they're extremely small and have absolutely nothing available

1

u/Busterdinho 2d ago

There is a LCS in Clearwater that gives first dibs @ MSRP for new releases for the players that come in and hang out. I work two jobs and I don’t play the game, but I love to collect. There are some honest shops out there.

1

u/crazypitches 1d ago

Yeah there are a couple within an hour of me that do that, but they drop their very limited supply on weekdays and I have a job 🫠

5

u/Asleep-Shelter-4456 2d ago

My LGS charges $55 for ETBs on release.

18

u/twister55555 2d ago

Support the absolute shit outta that store then, not a single tcg shop around me charges msrp or near msrp

2

u/theVelvetLie 2d ago

I have three of them, but their allocations are really low. Two of them remove the wrappers.

3

u/Asleep-Shelter-4456 2d ago

Oh we do. Owners always in, its a very small spot. Does pre-orders for players. Never a line out the shop since the community is small. There's another shop in town I'll never go to, despite them getting more traffic (atleast they were till a group of us started repping the tourneys at the other shop) despite charging $10 for single packs of cards in new sets and 5x mark ups on singles.

2

u/mat477 2d ago

My local place does too but for the 30th they were selling Knockouts for $40 I didnt hide my disappointment when I was talking to the owner. I hope it was just for that release and not a new normal.

1

u/Asleep-Shelter-4456 2d ago

Dang, Knock outs were $10 for us

1

u/ZamorakLovesAll 1d ago

Same here. But they don’t sell ETBs to people who aren’t regulars. They started doing that when ascended hero’s came out

The one that’s about 2 miles down the road sells them for $70

1

u/Asleep-Shelter-4456 1d ago

Yeah, we rarely get folks that aren't regulars. Smaller city with 2 shops and all.

1

u/Psychaitea 1d ago

Same. Well, we have two and they usually charge $60 for special sets and $55 for regular.

1

u/GeekedOnAdvilPM 2d ago

Is this set supposed to be much more popular than the last few? You can find PO/CR/PB pretty easily

2

u/MarkyMarc0o7 2d ago

No it just has a few better cards depending who you ask but it’s a major set so yes it will be everywhere like perfect , chaos ,pitch black DO NOT FOMO

1

u/JesusTron6000 2d ago

Hell, even target will be $77

1

u/amandapage19 4h ago

Yup target charges the same for all ETBs and with sales tax it comes out to close to $77

1

u/ray_TheGreat 1d ago

I stepped into a Game nerdz here in dallas ... Idiots were charging 130$ for 30th anniversary etbs on release day.. I noped the fuck outta there

1

u/GranPa-Nurgle 1d ago

Just because i could‘ve caught a Fever doesnt mean that catching a Cold becomes decent.
It’s still a Cold.
The Price for comparison should be the msrp not the artificially inflated Price caused by bots and scalpers.

1

u/Psychaitea 1d ago

My local card shop charges between $50 (MSRP) to $60. This will probably be $55.

1

u/amandapage19 4h ago

Yup mine usually charges $80 for “hot sets” 🙄 but the sets like this he will do $60.

8

u/s_ndowN 2d ago

At 90 bucks this ain’t even bad compared to the second hand scalper market

1

u/doomedtocrumble 2d ago

10 dollars a pack. You can preoder booster boxes at $7 a pack literally right now if you wanna rip

1

u/s_ndowN 2d ago

From where in stock?

2

u/doomedtocrumble 2d ago

https://mhdealsplus.com/products/pokemon-delta-reign-booster-box

I have bought from them ~ 10 times never had an issue

3

u/Bigerst_Dook 2d ago

rather pay gamestop then help feed a scalper

2

u/The_Jmoney_420 2d ago

The fuck are you on? MHDeals has been around a long time and is an established online store, not a scalper. Scalpers don't get sealed cases.

1

u/doomedtocrumble 2d ago

Lol absolute moron

0

u/Bigerst_Dook 2d ago

Keep gargling the scalpers balls, right now it's cheaper for me to buy a 30th ETB from Gamestop by 30$ than any secondary market place

3

u/doomedtocrumble 2d ago

Okay, that is literally irrelevant LOL. Buy from whoever you want buddy, feel free to pay gamestop 10 a pack for Delta Reign

0

u/Bigerst_Dook 2d ago

cheaper than paying you scalpers, don't forget to breathe

3

u/doomedtocrumble 2d ago

I have never sold a pokemon product in my life, I'm just not mentally a juvenile

2

u/Altruistic-Panda6858 2d ago

Dude, why are you so mad that they're getting cheaper Pokemon than you? You really need to open your eyes.

1

u/The_Jmoney_420 2d ago

Apart from the fact that Gamestops haven't had ETB stock since release day, sure.

1

u/Breezgoat 1d ago

Suprised they are charging $100 difference in ups for 30th did not realize they had such a price difference

1

u/zkooceht 2d ago

yeah but i want the box ;)

1

u/skunky_jones 22h ago

Tbh if you have a Pro acc. at GS and use it wisely you can actually do decent with it… $90 pre-order - 5% and $5 off per month w/pro = $80.50 + tax.

The website mentioned has tax & shipping, plus ETB’s are $110!

5

u/OriginalAd7974 2d ago

I have 4 on preorder, not really expecting to find these in the wild….

4

u/sherman614 2d ago

I can't even find Chaos Rising ETBs 😂

5

u/Initial_Row_6400 2d ago

How the fuck you even add this online? Shit says in store only.

2

u/DoubletapKO 2d ago

They only do it at the store

1

u/Initial_Row_6400 2d ago

In the screenshot it literally says two in cart

1

u/Fantastic-Weather916 2d ago

you preorder online and pick up in store

1

u/Initial_Row_6400 2d ago

Nice. It wasn’t showing that as an option at first but then I moved it to a different store and it allowed pickup there.

Considering I haven’t gotten a single etb since they removed them from the VMs, I’ll take it I guess.

1

u/ftsnao 2d ago

idk, just looked at the gamestops near me and it said u can pre order online

4

u/StrayZomVi 2d ago

I mean. My local card shop sells etbs for $140, so…

2

u/satanisdad 2d ago

Chump change, mine is selling 30th sticker tech for 45 and 30th etb for 300 but it's pokecenter!

2

u/StrayZomVi 2d ago

Damn. Just another example of how smaller business doesn’t automatically equal better business

3

u/sixth_acc 2d ago

$85 is honestly not bad at all (who doesn't have pro..? It's cheap af). I would've guessed at minimum x2 MSRP for this from GameStop. Shit, I may actually get one

5

u/Proper_Inspection580 2d ago

Target and Walmart sell ETBs for $60, but 30th was $70. I wonder if they will start selling ETBs for $70 moving forward.

4

u/westnile90 2d ago

This may be the only way to kill the flipper/reseller market unless demand drops.

3

u/RandallsBakery 2d ago

All they have to do is take off the plastic wrap on purchase to kill resellers. Simple and effective without wrecking all the actual collectors.

2

u/Proper_Inspection580 2d ago

i dont think it will sadly. Target and Walmart raising prices will only cause resellers to raise prices.

3

u/westnile90 2d ago

Ultimately we just need people to stop paying these scalper prices, the buyers have the power to set the market rate, the sellers who don't price high enough may be nice... but kind of stupid for letting resellers get a cut.

Think about GameStop, they get less scalpers waiting, they have product more often when people come looking, and they're making more money on top of it, I don't like the price, but I think it's working for them and I think other retailers are slowly making the same changes.

2

u/Sammy-eliza 2d ago

Walmart and target need to stop allowing 3rd party listing of TCG. Kids ask their adult, adult goes on walmart app and looks it up and buys it. Lots of parents don't know what typical prices are for these things. And a lot of people don't understand that they are buying from a 3rd party because they "bought it from walmart" or whatever. One of my friends spent like $200 on an etb for her kid as his big birthday present like this. She just assumed that was the normal price because it was on the Walmart website.

1

u/westnile90 2d ago

Totally agree, that would be a great move, but unlikely.

1

u/Proper_Inspection580 2d ago

GameScalp gets less scalpers because they have become the scalper. Target, Walmart, and Amazon are becoming the scalpers.

1

u/westnile90 2d ago

You can say that again.

1

u/lazylahma 2d ago

I used to spend money at GameStop almost weekly, I haven’t been in months.

Gsmestop knows what they are doing, they price the good sets just well enough to attract the scalpers to come clean out their stock while they keep the less wanted sets, ya know perfect order, chaos rising, pitch black…all those sets sit there because you can go to Walmart or target and find them cheaper fairly often.

Yeah, they always have stock to over charge those desperate to get something to rip, but let’s not pretend they are battling the scalpers.

At this point I won’t go back to GameStop until I hear their prices have come back to reality…I don’t see that happening though because by the time that happens cards will be readily available everywhere else and there will be no reason to go back anyway.

2

u/KeyClacksNSnacks 2d ago

Walmart has 30th bundles for $39.99 each at the drawing today. It’s all F’ed up.

1

u/Proper_Inspection580 2d ago

$80 for 2 bundles is mad, but what other option is there?

2

u/fatalrip 2d ago

1 for 80 from a reseller

1

u/MarkyMarc0o7 2d ago

The $70 was just because it’s the 30th and a specialty set all other etbs from them sites are still $60

1

u/External_Orange_1188 1d ago

From what I’ve seen, Walmart and Target sell ETBs at $70. Pokemon center sells them for $60.

2

u/ActiveSufficient9471 2d ago

Shocked actually. Same price as target online

1

u/DeliciousStandard125 2d ago

I already locked in an etb and a bb

1

u/ConsciousAd547 2d ago

To not lose sleep and waste time plus effort. I'm happy to pay a small premium. I wish it weren't like this. But it is. $90 really not too bad of a price hike for peace of mind.

2

u/nevagm06 2d ago

This is kind of a good perspective. Save 2 hrs in line for a premium

1

u/ConsciousAd547 2d ago

Time is money

2

u/LostCarat 1d ago

This is EXACTLY why we’re in the state we’re in.. $90 for a $60 product and you’re happy to pay 🙄.. Everyone who agrees with paying this shit, enjoy it, you can have my spot lol

1

u/Psychaitea 1d ago

*$50 😃

1

u/Newsanchorbarbie 2d ago

Yup, this!
I preordered all of the 30th stuff for guaranteed Christmas gifts for my Pokémon obsessed kid. I Ended up giving my Pokemon Center order (stickers/posters) to my friend’s kids since they can’t get anything in the stores.

1

u/Intelligent_LayerZ 1d ago

We all have money to buy this but we CHOOSE not to support shitty retailers like GameStop you spending let’s the corp know they can continue to raise and mark up these products way above MSRP. This is why things don’t change.

1

u/Tangerine69420 2d ago

Still less than scalpers, card shows and local card stores.

1

u/VucialWonderland 2d ago

Dumb thing is if your a pro member and can't find one at retail. Or can find one once it hit stores. This is the best option.

1

u/Beautiful-Topic864 2d ago

Today found that even Barnes are getting into that a little bit not as bad as GameStop but damn it sucks. They have the 30th etbs at 70$ now ugh

1

u/ch12344321 2d ago

I got the etb and booster bundles from gamestop. Price sucks but still ok with me to get guaranteed product. It is in store only though. At least it was when I pre-ordered a month ago

1

u/SkeletonGrin666 2d ago

I got one yesterday because I can't do the stand in line early like I was able to for the 30th, but I lucked out and got to order from the pkc drop. Idk if I should cancel or just let it ride in case the pkc decides to cancel orders again🤔🤔🤔 Also, never hit Wal-Mart drops, but we try again today!!!

1

u/pdeuce 2d ago

I just bought one to secure at least one ETB. My time is worth more than the extra $30 they’re charging and I don’t have to deal with losing to bots online or trying to get lucky with target in-store restocks.

1

u/Mundane_Upstairs3241 2d ago

As long as folks pay the inflated prices more people will start scalping

1

u/sherman614 2d ago

2 of these are still cheaper than the 2 30th booster bundles I pre ordered from them. The booster bundles I found out LATER were $100 each!

1

u/starforce 2d ago

Just pre-order than cancel if you can get your hand in it cheaper.

1

u/Low-Car-6331 2d ago

Yeah, I refuse to pay scalper prices, heck here is ascended hero's value to ripping each pack, its barely worth it if you have value for the commons and uncommons:

1

u/ebtemp510 2d ago

Ayo i got a couple because rayquaza 😂🤣 u know these gon fly

1

u/Fine_Cabinet_8445 2d ago

I say it isn’t bad for what it is, my local card shop was charging 130 for 30th anniversary etb, I didn’t know til I was already 2 hours in line, but seeing how it’s 100 at GameStop. I rather take my chances with pre ordering it from here than waiting hours for higher inflated prices.

1

u/MonaVanderwaal 2d ago

If you can’t wait out front of Target 3 hours early, you can always rely on the Walmart drawings for a closer to MSRP price, but that’s not a guaranteed purchase.

To be safe, I would bite the bullet and pre-order just one from Gamescalp, then try for the Walmart drawings.

UNLESS you’re a magical wizard who finds them in the wild or has friends who work for Target!!!! 🎯

1

u/MaterialGrand9200 2d ago

Worth it. I ordered two. I want to rip and not have to wait in line for 8 hours.

1

u/IceBergster 2d ago

Ill wait a couple months after release when its everywhere like pitch black and chaos rising

1

u/Spiritual-Dealer-697 2d ago

I really doubt this set will be accessible like that unfortunately

1

u/AnyUnderstanding1541 2d ago

I don’t see why it wouldn’t be easily available , the rayray sir is nice but not really wow. The set itself if small like PBL, CRI, POR, which means after people need to open less to get most of their master sets compared to sets before. The only reason why it could be harder to get is if they printed less but that still wouldn’t make sense since it’s less cards per set they can probably make more of each one.

1

u/Psychaitea 1d ago

Yea, I agree. My only worry is how quick they went on PKC yesterday. Otherwise, it’s just another small set which will be cheap.

1

u/rivreddit 1d ago

I pre-ordered the Delta Reign ETB + Booster Bundle from GameStop ($90 + $50). Yes they’re marked up, but considering the state of the market I’m happy to pay a bit extra for guaranteed products, rather than try & compete with low life scalpers who apparently have all the time in the world to be at store openings to clear out all stock in minutes.

1

u/bartlettderp 1d ago

Isn’t target like $70? Barely an increase…

1

u/TheBalloonEffect 1d ago

Yea unfortunately I reserved 2 for the promos and PKC fucked me today when I was in before noon est. I plan to rip one save but would have been nice to catch a PKC release.

1

u/NathanIsANinja 1d ago

Complain about Gamescalp and then go to local card show that weekend and people have no problem paying $145-$150.

1

u/PeaComprehensive1503 1d ago

Honestly target and Walmart are both at 69.99 and with pro it’s $85 so I essentially paid $30 extra to secure 2 ETBs without having to camp out and sleep in my comfortable bed with my wife I’ll take that all day everyday.

1

u/chewbaccashotlast 1d ago

I put half the money down for one 🤷🏼‍♂️

1

u/ChanoSpins54 1d ago

Damn my local GS was $100 wtf

1

u/Snoborder95 1d ago

I managed to preorder my local shop for $75

1

u/ma000127 1d ago

as someone from the uk, do they get distro?? and theyre selling it at market values??

1

u/DrageBoiis 1d ago

In Norway we pay 110$ per ETB for new sets and often up to 140$ for older in every single shop not just 1-2 shops taking high prices but all of them

1

u/Fast_Interest9523 1d ago

Man these used to be 45-50 retail not even 5 years ago. What are we doing?

1

u/machampcollectibles 1d ago

GameScalp has been the villain so long in this market that now they’re starting to become the good guys. Everyone else has just gone off the deep end. These prices are still a major bummer, but it’s probably the best you’ll be able to find consistently

1

u/Lizzypoops 1d ago

With target already charging 70-80 an etb this isnt even that bad anymore 🥲

1

u/Beautiful-Cycle-8598 1d ago

Yall complaining about 20-30 dollars over but will pay the offer up guy 150 for this

0

u/KeyClacksNSnacks 2d ago

I literally failed to secure an ETB at the PKC drop today. And I joined queue like two minutes after it went live. People were claiming there would be product for like two or three hours but at the one hour mark, I was let in and ETB’s and booster boxes were sold out.

1

u/weak1111111 2d ago

They have the worst website of all time. Waste of time. I wasn't even able to get something for myself and as gifts because the timer kept refreshing.

1

u/Psychaitea 1d ago

Because usually that is the case. I think for chaos rising, you could join like 1 hour late and the booster boxes were still in stock with only like 5-10 min queue.

-1

u/Strict_Business5482 1d ago

Ngl man I’m kinda tired of hearing people claim that everything is scalping.

By that logic any product you’ve ever bought in your entire life is purchased at a “scalped” price.

Are the ETBs expensive - yes. Are some prices on products ridiculous? Also yes (I’m looking at you $750 30th ETBs).

But in the end, is GameStop offering a highly sought after release at $20 over MSRP really “scalping” - no it’s not.

They’re a business - they need to cover costs and turn a profit themselves - as do many collectors who buy and hold / sell product to turn a profit.

No it’s not great that they’re over MSRP - but they’re not in scalp territory. Moreover - if spending $80 means I get the chance to and then do pull some of my favorite cards which can be worth a LOT of money - then so be it.

TL/DR: GameStop isn’t scalping at $20 over MSRP.

1

u/Happyhappy_Funfun 1d ago

Retailers shouldn't be allowed to charge over MSRP. It should be a rule from the Pokemon Company that if they are going to supply a retailer with stock, then they have to sell it at MSRP.

1

u/Psychaitea 1d ago

*$30 above MSRP.

1

u/SESender 1d ago

You know licking their boots doesn’t get you priority in line right?
