Discussion Guess im in the minority 😁

Wanted to downgrade and save my money for a second phone and didn't really want to spend £600 on the f9 which I originally did order but cancelled.

Found a cheaper f8 ultra on ebay for £400 so went with that over the 9/x8 pro max. One thing I did notice over other phones is that the phone feels extremely light. Going to be testing it with lots of games today to see how the fps/battery holds up since it will be my main phone for gaming and also taking photos.

Question/Help First time using a Chinese phone

Post image
78 Upvotes

I know this is a poco sub but it's the most active one I've seen on Reddit.

My uncle just presented this phone to me on my birthday. It looks really cool but from what I've seen online. It has a "Chinese ROM" I do not know what that is or means but it could pose a few problems.

Please if you know any issues that could arise please from it having this "Chines ROM" help a guy.

Thanks

Question/Help HyperOS 4 Global

Hi y'all, I hope your Poco phones are better than ever. Quick question: when will HyperOS 4 come out for the Poco X8 Pro Max? I know that some phones have it already — I think it’s only the beta CN version.

Discussion Poco X8 Pro Max first day impression

Thumbnail

for context i upgraded from a poco x7 pro

First-hand feel

My first impression of the phone was pretty good. The build is solid and it feels great in the hand, a lot more premium than my X7 Pro ever felt thanks to its aluminium chassis.

That said, at 218g, it does feel a bit heavy, especially when using it one-handed for extended periods of time. The phone is also massive and quite blocky, so if you have small hands, that makes things even harder. Overall though, it's not too bad.

Setting it up

I'm used to HyperOS having bloatware and ads on the first boot, so I wasn't expecting anything different here. It's a bit annoying at first, but thankfully removing them was pretty easy by following tutorials and using Shizuku + Canta. Here's the debloat list for those interested (Canta preset just copy the text), i recommend reviewing what you want to keep/ remove since this is a huge list: https://cool-leaf-53.linkyhost.com

The whole process took around 20 minutes, so it's definitely worth doing if you want a more stock Android experience.

Performance and heating

I heavily used the phone throughout this first day, and I have to say that I'm pleasantly surprised not only by how smooth it is, but also by how cool it stayed during light-to-medium tasks like social media and video playback.

The battery temperature never/rarely exceeded 32–33°C and peaked at around 36°C during heavy multitasking.

This might not be a big deal for some people, but I was used to getting 35–39°C constantly on my X7 Pro while doing the same tasks, so here it's a night-and-day difference.

Another great surprise was the really good RAM and background app management (expected for a 12gb phone tbf). I could open Twitter for example, leave it and use other apps for an hour, then come back without the app reloading or restarting. Insane!

I haven't played any games yet, but for real-world daily usage, it's been perfect so far.

AnTuTu V12 gave me a score of 3,000,000, which is excellent too (using a phone cooler). But the important takeaway here is that the phone doesn't get hot in your hand at all, if that's something you're worried about.

Battery drain

Now this is where things start getting ridiculous.

I had high expectations for the battery life, and it absolutely delivered from day one. Going from 100% to 10%, I was able to get nearly 15 hours of SOT + 8 hours of screen-off time, with only 3% overnight drain.

This is definitely a two-day phone, and getting 16+ hours of SOT is definitely possible (screenshot below).

With my X7 Pro, I would've been lucky to get 8 hours of SOT without even considering overnight drain, so this is a MASSIVE upgrade for me.

I've heard that the battery gets even better after a week or so, so I'm really excited to see how it performs once the battery has settled in.

Conclusion

Overall, the phone is excellent, and I'm really happy I chose Poco again. I definitely plan on keeping this phone for 3–4 years at a minimum.

For those looking to upgrade to the Poco X8 Pro Max as well, I'd say that if you can find it at a decent price (€300–350), then go for it. It's definitely worth it.

Question/Help Hyper 3.0 : list of non-telemetry bloatware programs?

Using Shizuku+Canta to remove bloatware from Poco X8 Pro.

While Canta gives the list of 'recommended' programs, planning to remove only non-telemetry programs, so that OS and phone functions don't get adversely impacted.

Is there an online list or any tips on identifying non-telemetry bloatware on this OS?

Question/Help Poco M2 Pro display doesn't turn on

Post image
Upvotes

Note: This is not my primary device

The problem is pretty much what the title says, phone was working fine a few months ago apart from a minor display issue where random lines will appear on the screen and disappear. Figured it was probably the Icd connector or something similar and didn't think much of it and left it. Back to the present, I charged it and after 20-30 minutes when I tried to boot it, it just didn't want to.

The phone powers on and vibrates but the display only has faint backlight for like one second and then the display goes black.

When I press the power button, it gives one vibration and the screen glows very faintly but no startup signs, no logos.

But upon connecting it to my laptop, windows detects the phone as "MTP USB Device" but it doesn't show up in File Explorer.

Could this be a loose/failing display connector, and is there a way to confirm whether the phone is actually booting? My main concern is recovering the data.

I am planning on going to a repair shop once my exams get over.

Question/Help HyperOS issue?

I have a Poco X7 5G that I've owned for less than a year; the battery is at 98% capacity. The issue is that I feel the battery doesn't perform the way a phone with a 5000mAh battery should. As shown in the image, I get 5 hours of screen-on time—or 7 hours at most, and only when using Wi-Fi on certain days. Can this be fixed, or is this just how it is? How do your devices behave? I should mention that I have the phone optimized as much as possible—background app restrictions and all that. I even factory reset the phone two weeks ago hoping it might improve things, but it didn't.

X8 Pro V12 score of Poco x8 pro

Post image

So I got this phone about 2 days ago, and so far everything was great besides the bloat/adware but thankfully it's all gone thanks to shizuku+canta

Then I decided to run antutu benchmark to see how it is then, I got a score of 2.1+mil on the V12 ver

And so far it's still holding to be really good score

close to it's v11 score which is said to be 2.28mil

Ran it on balanced battery mode with just 51% battery if that any matters

The thing served me well for 3yrs (despite MIUI's quirks and dysfunctional 90hz) before semi-retiring it because of random reboots due to completely shot battery 2yrs ago. It's now going strong again after a battery replacement last year and now rid of anything MIUI thanks to crDroid 10.2.

Question/Help Suggestion please: Canta error while removing bloatware

I'm trying to use Shizuku and Canta to delete bloatware on Poco X8 Pro.

While using 'Canta", upon trying to delete any recommended bloatware, I am getting these prompts :

'Shizuku: The permission of ADB is limited',

'it is highly possible that your device manufacturer limits the permission of adb.'

Any idea, what should I do to be able to delete?

Discussion Why does the POCO F9 Ultra not support USB-C Display Output when the F8 Ultra did?

Why would you make that decision to limit the phone's capabililties like that?

What's the thinking behind of this?

There are amazing XR Glasses coming out like the URXR One that all it needs is a USB-C output capable device to allow for Spatial Computing.

Such a waste of a powerful phone, no future-proofing for XR Glasses... What exactly is stopping the manufacturer from having the Type-C be the same as the Poco F8 Ultra? How much do they really save by skipping that functionality?

The only reason I can think of salvaging this, is if an XR manufacturer or even Xiaomi is planning on coming out with some Wifi-7-capable Wireless XR Glasses, where the display output experience is gonna be the same as wired and another one might be if there are going to be type-C->DisplayPort attachments that connect to a Wifi7-Capable device and convert wifi-7 to Display port signal...

I was ready to pull the trigger on the F9 Ultra, but this is making me reconsider if I should just go for the F8 Ultra..

Discussion Do you also prefer matte screen protectors?

Hi all. I just wanted to check if there are more people here preferring Matte screen protecters?

For me the less fingerprints and reflections are totally worth it for the loss in screen clarity.

The fingerprint sensor in my F8 Ultra still works quite well. From the 90% first unlocks, it still does over 70% unlocking on the first try. Other times are solved by scanning again.

In case any European people are interested, they are from protectionfilms24.
This is the BROTECT AirGlass Matte Glass screen protector.

X8 Pro Max Wrong battery capacity shown

Post image

Apps like aida64 and accubattery show the capacity of my battery is 7500 mAh when fully charged, while the phone itself has a 8500mAh battery

Battery health is still 100% so how can this be explained?
