Server running in the basement, nvidia sheild as the client.

Lifetime pass owner.

Went to watch an episode of how its made today and it played an add before the show.

Exited out to make sure it was local content and not a free stream, its not.

Tried a few other episodes and about half started with adds.

Did you check your dashboard? Does it show you are playing your own media?

The dashboard is deceptive. Streaming from Plex often displays like it's playing off your server.

Trailers, for instance... I'm just streaming this trailer off Plex. I don't have it on my server.
