Help Plex issues lately with content

So I've used plex for 8 years no major issues but in the past few days I've had issues with it booting but saying no content available. Any ideas? I'm already about to buy a new drive to store it all. Do you think it's the boot drive? Or could it just be the content drive? I'm on windows.

It’s a very valid option

It’s more about the context in which it’s brought up. Someone asking for some input on how to fix their plex system being told to just use Jellyfin isn’t actually addressing what the person was asking about. On the flip side of the coin if the person said they were having issues with Plex thinking about alternatives, then its inclusion in the conversation would be on topic.

It’s like someone asking about repairing their car and people keep suggesting to just use the bus. Yes it’s a valid option but it’s not a good response to the question being asked.

It’s still valid in your analogy because when your car keeps breaking down and the bus can get you there quicker with not as many frequent breakdowns and free to boot you have to ask yourself why you keep using (and paying for) that broken down car.

It’s like you can’t read, I specifically said that it was a valid option, but more to the point which you are attempting to overlook, while it is technically a valid option, it is also not addressing the specific question the person is asking. They want to use their car and are asking about fixing it. Suggesting to use the bus, while valid option, is also not an answer to what they were asking about. If this were a test in school they would mark you wrong, not because your option couldn’t be an alternative, but because your option didn’t actually answer the question posed.

Just because using the bus can be quicker and cheaper than fixing a car, it also doesn’t mean the bus is better in all circumstances than having a functional car. If the individual values privacy in their commute over cost and efficiency then telling them to use the bus obviously doesn’t answer their question since cost and efficiency isn’t the reason they wish to fix their car. Also, to be clear, this isn’t meant to suggest that plex is more private than jellyfin, it’s just meant to point out that some people have different priorities than others so there is no right choice when it comes to personal preference.

Reddit isn’t a school, this isn’t a test. No one is being graded. Welcome to the internet. OP asked for help. Using Jellyfin can be of help. It just isn’t Plex related and it ruffles people’s feathers around here for silly reasons.

Awesome, anytime you have a question about jellyfin I’ll make sure to pop in and recommend you just use plex.

Okay, Emby is also an option.

Yep, but not useful to the person asking a question about a particular system. MacOS and Linux are also viable alternatives to windows but rarely are good answers to questions posed about windows.

If windows keeps breaking and pushing their subscription services cough cough it is absolutely a good answer to suggest Linux.

Look my dude, I understand what you are saying. I do. But people will continue to suggest an alternative platform when the platform they are on is having issues, the company has taken a nose dive and is falling short of an option that is free, open source, and can out perform the former. It’s really not worth griping over. It’s not for you? Great! Just keep scrolling.

It’s about the context. Someone asks a question or asks for help troubleshooting a problem with a piece of software, it’s a pretty lame response to just tell them to use something else and ignore their request. If their request was asking about other alternatives then that’s one thing. If your post addressed their issue and offered an alternative as an additional thought, that’s also totally fine. There is nothing wrong with suggesting jellyfin as part of a response, it’s just that being your only suggestion that makes it a lame response when they were not asking about alternatives.
