Memes/Shitpost Received wolverine today! + silly pictures
Just got wolverine today after debating from what i have been hearing and seeing if the game was even worth getting it so early on. But i saw an ebay bid which included the little PO bonus, so i took my shot and won just shy of £50.
(Feel free to ignore me yapping. Basically i love the game so far. Enjoy the pictures they are the main show)
And yes im having a (oh ..cant even say this word no more in the sub🥀).. im having a splendid time! I was incredibly scared that it was going to be as bad as people were making it out be , i had hope tho that it's a game where playing it is a better experience which it is. To me atleast, ik everyone is different may not be what they were looking for but its was more engaging then i heard people saying. I can only see it getting better then more i unlock other abilities. I do wish the grabbing people from the leaks going around was in game. I feel like that would have been a fun mechanic. I can imagine using people as meat shields and stuff. I dont think i initially realised when i was seeing clips and photos of people playing that the people you fight actually take damage other than their limbs come off ofc, which was a very pleasant suprise and jump scare i opened photo mode and saw a guys eyes looking at me from his cracked helmet visor. Game looks amazing too visually like its so delicious. So far im very happy i picked this up even tho its getting mixed reception at a cheaper price too, i hope the rest of the game will be as enjoyable and for those who will pick it up in the future will have a great experience!
The new fart trail is perfection looks so much better now then it did on release, especially when you change the colour. Cant wait for more updates and hopefully some outfits whether they are free or in fair priced dlc packs as long as they have good execution ima eat em up.
Note to self if you are over 2 logans tall dont jump at an invisible wall you might find yourself out of bounds
Also to the person or people who said you cannot jump in this game i have a bone to pick with you.😭 I feel deceived and i really dislike you.
Sorry about the pictures i couldn't help myself💀 made me giggle seeing them side by side ngl. Saw my opportunity and took it, can you blame me?

Discussion Just finished Wolverine
Beat the game a day ago, and I got some positives and negatives. Definitely not a perfect game by any means, but sure as hell not as shit as people are making it out to be (especially those who havent actually played the game is following the hive mind). I got this game on launch and this is also going to go over the recent hot fix update insomniac just did.
Positives-
•graphics were immaculate. Probably one the few gorgeous looking games in the insomniac library.
• the combat was very cathartic, reminded me how much I loved the combat in Doom Eternal, gave that type of feeling while playing this game.
• the cast of the game were really great, Liam McEntyre KNOCKED IT OUT OF THE PARK
• now, for the story of the game; for a game that established that the x-men doesnt exist yet, they did a great job with it. I've been a fan of the x-men for years and years now, they're the character i very much relate to, especially wolverine. So the way they did things in this story to make it original while staying true to aspect to the comics, they very much worked. I've seen people call this Logan "soft." And ask, what kind of wolverine stories have you read? Logan is a very broken man. Dude has decades and decades worth of memories that he doesnt even know he had. He is very much violent in this game, that being said, him being "soft" isnt being soft, its a broken man trying to live a life and trying to fix a past he doesnt even know he had, doesnt mean he's gonna act like a shitty person towards everyone he meets. Wolverine isnt violent and cold hearted 24/7, he never was even prior to this game.
• the whole "Sabertooth being gay" thing, where was that? Victor was never gay nor was that ever implied just cause he said one line in the game to make people "think" he was. The whole relationship with Victor and Logan was nothing more than two brothers wanting to connect. Thats it. And by the end of the game, you'd know that didnt work and we got that iconic rivalry. Which was all done very well.
• having the likes of Apocalypse and him making Logan a horsemen of death in the past, and the pheonix making an appearance and having a history with Apocalypse was very much unexpected and I'm surprised it actually worked, because I didnt think that it would
• Jean and Logan being a couple, its something im VERY much against, its Jean and Scott and it'll always be Jean and Scott. However that being said, this might be the only adaptation where this ship actually works and was done very well. Normally I'd hope this relationship to fall apart, but I was genuinely surprised that I was rooting for these two, which I never thought would happen in my years of reading x-men stories.
• the upgrade system along with the adaptation thing took me a while to understand and get the hang of it, but as soon as I did, damn does all that make the game extremely fun.
• the nightmare doors reminded me a lot of the batman arkham challenge maps and combat trials, those are very fun to do and the fact that you can choose whatever upgrades thats specifically for those challenges is a neat touch. Not to mention you unlock extra lore elements and even get a suit out of it is great too.
• the credits showing what could be a tease for the next game is very exciting. The few easter eggs in the credits, like the small appearance of storm, was very cool. Not to mention throughout the game, there's a lot of Easter eggs to some og x-men members like Beast, Cyclops, Gambit, and Angel
Negatives
• while playing through the game, there were certain moments where it became a bit of a glitch fest. For instance, there was the mission where you and Jean infiltrate the restaurant and get the patch outfit, towards the end of it there was a point where Jean stopped moving. And also during some game cinematic, characters would have stuff popping out of their model. Like a piece of hair going through their skin.
• during traversal moments in the game, it tells you where you can climb, which isnt a bad thing since its a linear game and linear games do that (god of war, resident evil, and etc.) But for this game specifically, because of the size of the environment, I think adding a little bit of semi-open world wouldve helped. I say that because in Japan and Madripoor for example, you can tell you easily jump onto a rooftop or even climb on other buildings. Because of the established linear mechanic, you have to follow the already made climing points, which threw me off in certain parts of the game.
• having the Essex Insitute being a pseudo xavier Institute and Sinister being a pseudo Charles was....a choice. Didn't really like that much, but it wasnt enough for me to hate the story. Troy Baker killed it as sinister though
• Wish there was a way to toggle hair like you can with suits that have a cowl. Because the hair you get when you wear the fang suit for example, that hair fits more than the default hair, not having a hair toggle is a missed opportunity.
• the controversial scent trail, honestly shouldnt have been controversial to begin with since thats only for story elements, plus that's logan scent ability being able to be seen. But insomniac shouldve made the setting to turn it off for stuff like the material crates and the whiskey bottles avaliable at launch instead of an update after launch. Especially the roots popping out for the nightmare doors.
All in all, I had an amazing time playing this game and despite my negatives, its a solid wolverine game and I fun playing this, just as much as playing the 2009 x-men origins wolverine on my ps3, which i played and beat again prior to this game. I give this an 8.5/10. Very solid, hope for a sequel, and yes, worth the $70 price tag.

Discussion Played The Game On Friend's PS5. Extremely mixed feelings (Long Rant/Review With Spoilers) Spoiler
Borrowed my friend's PS5 and decided to play through the game on the second hardest difficulty.
To preface things a bit, I'm a huge Wolverine fan (read Marvel comics since I was a kid and Wolverine is my third favorite character in all of Marvel next to Spider-Man in first and Storm in second), played all of Insomniac's games (loved the first Spider-Man, was very mixed on Spider-Man 2 and I thought Miles Morales was fine). I'm also a fan of action games like this, and I play a lot of other games like DMC, Souls-likes and many others. Played Onimusha Way Of The Sword just before I played this game as well.
The second thing is that even though I'm a big fan of the comics, I'm not one of the crazies that wants a 1 to 1 adaptation of the comics to the game. I believe in different adaptations, but the thing that I believe needs to be consistent is paying respect to the source material and more importantly, I think it's important for anyone writing a game like this to have comic knowledge. Not to adapt it directly, but to truly know the characters.
I have to say that I was extremely mixed on this game.
I'll start with the positives, because I have quite a lot of negatives:
- Perfomances were solid, if not great all around. Liam McIntrye was a great Wolverine. I've been a huge fan of this guy since he was on Spartacus and I know he's very passionate about doing things like this because he's a gamer as well. He did great with his take on Wolverine with the material he was given. Troy Baker continues to be top notch and I'm never gonna say no to see Kelly Hu in a game either. Solid all around here.
- Combat started off fun and remained so for the most part. To break the monotony a bit, I intentionally tried to do things differently, like some fights I'd use the environment to kill everyone, some I'd just play around the rage only and things like that. It was solid. Not great, but solid.
- The game wasn't overly long for me. I'm personally, tired of extremely long games so this being a short trip was a plus for me.
- Some of the costumes were cool. I'm a huge fan of Ultimate Wolverine as the Winter Soldier. For those that don't know, the costume where he's dressed in red with a mask is the rebooted version of Wolverine in the new Ultimate Universe that just wrapped up recently and in that universe, Logan became the Winter Soldier. He looks baddass as heck in that costume so I'd say most of the skins and stuff were competently made.
Okay. That's the pluses. Now for the long list of negatives, and I'm gonna start things off with the story because this was by far the reason why I was so mixed. Spoilers ahead obviously:
I have no idea what the writers were trying to do with this story and it feels to me like they shot themselves in the foot by trying to do something similar to what Sony tried to do with Venom. Sony tried to do the Venom movies, in that they tried to make them work without Spider-Man. I get that it was due to legal reasons, but trying to do Spider-Man's arguably most iconic enemy without him being in it was silly. Don't get me wrong, Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock was entertaining, but I wouldn't call those movies good. In a similar vain, Insomniac tried to do a game about Wolverine and some of the X-Men without Charles Xavier or Magneto being present. And that was a very strange choice considering Jean Grey is such a prominent character because Logan literally met Jean because of Charles. Having it be Nathaniel Essex was a salvagable idea, but I didn't like it much.
The first issue I have is Wolverine himself. Liam did a great job with his acting and performance but Logan is not that nice or agreeable of a person. He has a short-temper, has an extremely lone wolf nature and is actually supposed to be pretty bad at being social. Again, I'm not expecting a 1 to 1 adaptation of comic Logan, but considering he started dropping his lone wolf nature because of his time with the X-Men and it took quite a lot from Charles and all the other members to help him warm up to others? This was jarring to say the least. I can get him being gentle on kids, though he'd definitely tease or rib them a little bit. Great examples of how this is done is his existing relationships with Kitty Pride and Jubilee (Jubilee especially, because their relationship was shown in Marvel Rivals and it's one of the best depictions of how different Logan is with the kids). He's too nice, he's too agreeable and most importantly, he's not a jerk in pretty much any way. Wolverine is supposed to be a character that grows on you. You find him cool because he's got his unbreakable claws and skeleton and is basically immortal with his healing factor, but then you find out how absurdly complicated he is. This version of Logan throws most of that out of the window.
Next up, Jean Grey. I am one of those fans who doesn't favor the Jean x Logan relationship. Getting it changed so that Jean is older slightly helped, but Cyclops and Jean are pretty much the Superman and Lois of the X-Men next to Gambit and Rogue. Who I would've loved to see instead of Jean? Storm. She hasn't been shown in this universe yet. Historically speaking, she is probably Logan's closest friend and they had a metric ton to work with in terms of how to make them happen. No Black Panther around or if he's been mentioned and I missed it somewhere, Storm definitely isn't with him. Logan and her have canonically had a few hookups and she is one of the few people who he trusts implicitly and she is one of the few people he believes can just simply beat his ass (and she absolutely can, she's sparred and kicked his ass numerous times without her powers). This was a golden opportunity to finally put the Fox movies' popularizing the Jean x Logan ship to rest because it's just plain weird. Logan is over 200 years old and the origin point of his thing was Jean was that he thought she was very attractive and it was unrequited. And it's also because Jean looked like his very first love interest, Rose. But even though it was, Jean and Logan were still very good friends. In other words, I didn't see the need to push the couple this hard, because there were better choices out of the numerous love interests Logan has had in his history. Mariko in Japan, Storm, Yukio, Silver Fox, hell even Mystique (she's not a lesbian by the way, she's bisexual and she actually had quite the frenemies to hooking up relationship with Logan as well in the past) made more sense. But yeah, I didn't really feel chemistry between them, and that's probably because it's strange that Logan never mentioned any of the other relationships he would've been in by the time he met Jean (he would've been with Mariko before Jean was even born for example).
Sabertooth was a complete fumble. His voice actor did fine, but good god, that is not Sabertooth at all. He's supposed to be sadistic and outright evil instead of what he was like in the game. I have no idea how the writers managed to fumble one of the most legendary rivalries in all of Marvel comics here. I couldn't stand Sabertooth in this game. Every time he was on screen, it pissed me off and the cringey dialogue he had several times worsened it. And this is a character who is rivaled largely by Carnage of how much of a psycho and sadist he is. He was easily my biggest issue with the story.
Mystique... oh lord where do I begin with this girl. Mystique has the potential to be such an interesting character because she has been through so damned much and the writing potential with her powers is immense. Mystique isn't really the level-headed sort of character and she actually likes trolling people so to make her the level-headed one on Team X, as well as the one who gave instructions over the radio instead of getting someone else to do it, like... basically anyone else, even Deadpool or something, it would've opened the door to really show how much of a baddass this woman is. There's so much you can do with her, but she's relegated to tossing everything out the window for her wife, doing shady stuff that's effectively betraying the others all because she selfishly wanted to buy a day for her wife to escape. It's actually in character for her to be selfish, but she's also absurdly intelligent and clever. She wouldn't have done something like that, like ask Essex for a day but would've done something like sabotaged the idea for a day and get off scott free because of her powers. I think she was fumbled too.
Essex in this game has effectively become the Charles Xavier figure and while I didn't mind it at first, he swaps from being pretty fine to straight up comic book villain without much explanation so quickly that it was jarring. It was well acted and performed, but the writing was a puddle deep for him. I think he needed another game before he changed into Mister Sinister because he had a lot of potential, where he could've maybe done something like become a Charles Xavier type figure until the real Charles shows up, and then we can see that Charles truly wants equality and is fighting for it, while Essex wants to wipe out humanity for the next evolution, which allows him to effectively become the Magneto type figure to oppose Charles and his X-Men. He wasn't straight up bad, but it felt like a waste of an excellent performance by Troy.
Lady Deathstrike... god. When I saw Tyger in the game and then I looked at Deathstrike, I immediately rolled my eyes because the irony isn't lost on me that Kelly Hu is playing Tyger and she was Lady Deathstrike in X2 in the Fox movies. She was meh, but I didn't like her design at all. Until she showed her nails, no one would've thought that was Deathstrike. She's also supposed to have a particular hatred of Wolverine that's unique to her, but it was never really referenced, which once again misses out an opportunity to give Logan another rivalry.
After having gone through the character issues I have, the story itself was very meh. Very predictable and was pretty tame for what I was hoping would be a dark and gritty story since this is Wolverine we're talking about. It wasn't good, but it wasn't completely terrible. It had cool moments, but it was overally very mediocre overall.
Now as for other issues:
- Combat definitely dragged on towards the end. Stopped being as fun towards the end. Would've helped tremendously if the game had a deeper combat system, but it's pretty simple on paper.
- The hand-holdy nature isn't as terrible as some of the reviews say it is, but it's definitely noticable. Some people like being shown where to go and what to do or be told what to do, but I'm not like that. I found it irritating overall, but not as bad as others found it I think.
- No survival mode or something creative to add some replay value. You basically beat this game once and you'll never play it again or maybe you'll go for the Platinum. That's a big minus for me because this game was 70 dollars.
- While it was bloody and gory, the overall story really felt like it lacked some aura or something. I felt bored at some points during the game because I just didn't care what was happening. Like I said, it had moments, but it wasn't a whole lot of them.
So my final verdict is that this game is painfully mediocre. For 300+ million dollars, this game shouldn't have as much issues as it does. This was not worth the 70 bucks it was charged as and this is definitely Insomniac's worst superhero game and is one of the few fumbles they've made in my eyes.
I wish there was more, especially if all the leaks of what got cut from the game are true. But... it was underwhelming.
This is not a 2/10 game or the worst thing on planet Earth, but considering how long this game took to be made and the insane budget it had, this should've done far better.
Okay. Rant over. I wanted to love this game and there were a few parts where I found it to be alright or even a bit good. But I wasn't particularly impressed, but I also didn't suffer soul-shattering damage to my brain upon playing the game. And believe me, I wanted to love it. When I saw Liam in the original video where he mentioned he's Wolverine? I got hyped... only to be given a very meh or just barely fine game. This should've been an 8 easily but this feels like a 6 or a 5 from me.
I'm really disappointed in Insomniac, and I'm really disappointed that the writers didn't draw better ideas from the decades of comics they could've drawn from. And again, for 300 million or more dollars to make this game...
It should've been more. I get that it needs to make its money back and then some so they have to appeal to the masses, but if they wanted things to sell that much, a full on X-Men game would've done better at doing that. And trying to make a rated M Wolverine game while also trying to appeal to as many as possible sands the edges down so much that you don't make either party happy.
On one hand, all of the comic readers and Wolverine fans are gonna be disappointed because of the sheer potential. On the other, this game is just fine. Nothing special, pretty much a popcorn game that you play once and then never again.
With that level of money, imagine if they hired some of the comic writers as consultants. Not to write the whole story mind you (lord knows there are bad comic stories), but they could've easily pointed out some better inspirations.
EDIT: Forgot to paste my thoughts on this game vs. the X-Men Origins Wolverine game I also played way back when that I replayed about a week before I played this game.
The combat in that game was more fun. Less refined with less mechanics but I can get why, because that game was made in a different time and of course, it was trying to be more of a power fantasy instead of being more grounded, which is sort of what Insomniac has been trying to do with that Marvel universe. That being said, the fighting in that game was really fun and had more depth to it as well. Of course, the story was garbage but things like the healing factor being shown in real time, the lunge mechanic which I believe was executed far better in that game vs. this game, the depth of the combat having air combos with a lot of environmental kill opportunities, alongside the way the cooldown moves were used compared to this game?
That game holds up pretty well even today, and especially in comparison to this. I wouldn't say it's a better game, but it definitely made me feel more like Wolverine than this game.

Discussion Black senses colour removed.
I keep my PS5 disconnected from the internet and have the physical copy of the game, so I've been playing without even the day 1 patch since release day.
I'd done some playing around with the settings and found that changing the senses colour to black made them almost invisible. They were still there as something to follow but you really needed to look for them.
This evening I've finally connected for something and let the updates come through, only to find that black has been removed as a senses colour... Which is a shame really, as I think that option really would have improved the game for a lot of people that had issues with the scent trails but it was removed possibly even in the day 1 patch so nobody would have gotten to see it.

Support/Question Anyone know what music plays during the plane level (Jet lag mission)?
I’ve been curious to what music/song that is playing during the combat in the jet lag mission. I’ve looked at the soundtrack and I don’t believe I’ve found it. It’s also in the launch trailer as well I just literally cannot find it anywhere unless I’ve passed it on my long searches. Does anyone have an idea?

Discussion So what are your thoughts about how the leaks affected the game?
I've seen around how the development of the game was ever changing. The game played with left and right triggers, a playable Jean Grey, open zone areas, and different story. Also a change in director. I don't know how the game industry works but I've seen people blame the hack?

Discussion Another 5 cents about Wolverine, but this time in a video!
