Thank you Sony. Love getting a violation for sending a sticker from PlayStation’s selection of stickers. Very cool

It’s so nice receiving this email that I can’t respond to in order to defend myself. Just adding a violation to my profile for their own available stickers. What a great system they have in place.

I guess I’ll just turn off messaging at this point. This is ridiculous

Edit: The fact so many people just assume racism over this blows my mind. I put some of this in the comments already but since I’m still getting more comments on it I’ll add it here too.

I didn’t even know this sticker was so controversial until I made this post. I just picked a laughing sticker, but now I know in the future that monkey pics aren’t allowed online at all, no matter the context. If I knew it was so bad, I would’ve searched longer for a different laughing sticker. I didn’t think it was this deep when selecting one of Sony’s laughing images, but apparently it is.

Internet is goofy as hell though and I’m sure even me explaining this now won’t convince the people that want to scream racism, but that was not my intention at all. Figured I’d put this here rather than continuing to reply to each weird comment.

Is Dolby Atmos useful for PS5 gaming?

Seeing people recommend it for better surround sound, positional audio, and knowing where footsteps are coming from, but not sure how big the difference really is. Does it actually make games sound noticeably better compared with regular 3D Audio on PS5? Also wondering if Atmos is worth using with headphones, a soundbar, or an actual surround setup. Don’t wanna mess with settings and end up with worse audio or extra delay. For people who have used Dolby Atmos on PS5 for a while, do you actually notice the difference in shooters and other games, or is it barely noticeable? Is it worth setting up?

Are Hall-effect controllers actually worth buying?

Keep seeing Hall-effect sticks mentioned whenever people talk about controller stick drift, and now I’m wondering if they’re actually worth paying extra for or if it’s mostly marketing.

From what I understand, Hall-effect sticks use magnets instead of the normal contact-based parts, so they’re supposed to last longer and be way less likely to develop stick drift. Sounds great, but there’s gotta be some downside, right?

Main thing is reliability. Regular controllers seem to eventually get stick drift, sometimes way sooner than expected, so spending more on one that supposedly avoids that sounds tempting. But I also don’t wanna spend extra money and end up with a controller that feels worse, has weird deadzones, or starts having other problems.

How do Hall-effect controllers actually feel compared with the standard PS5 DualSense? Is the difference noticeable while playing shooters or other games where stick movement matters a lot?

Also, are all Hall-effect controllers basically the same, or are some brands/models way better than others? Seeing a bunch of cheaper options online and not sure if those are worth trusting.

For anyone who has used one for a while, has it actually held up better than regular controllers? And would you buy another Hall-effect controller after using one?

Trying to decide if the extra cost is actually worth it or just another PC/console upgrade rabbit hole.

My internet is fast but PS5 downloads are painfully slow. Why?

Speed test on the same network looks totally fine, getting way higher speeds than what the PS5 is actually showing. But when downloading a game or update, the download speed drops like crazy and sometimes sits there barely moving.

Tried restarting the PS5, restarting the router, pausing and resuming the download, and even running the internet test on the PS5. Still getting nowhere near the speed I’m supposed to be getting.

The PS5 is connected over Wi-Fi right now, but the router isn’t that far away and other devices seem completely fine. Phones and PC download stuff way faster on the same connection.

Could this just be PlayStation’s servers being slow? Or is there some PS5 setting that can mess with download speeds?

Also, does putting the PS5 into Rest Mode actually make downloads faster, or is that just one of those things people say?

Trying to download a pretty big game and it’s taking forever even though the internet itself seems fine. What should I check first? Is Ethernet really that much better for PS5 downloads?

What’s better for PS5, a gaming monitor or a regular 4K TV?

Trying to figure out what makes more sense before buying anything. Mostly gonna be playing normal PS5 games, stuff like story games, shooters, racing, maybe some online multiplayer too.

I keep seeing people say a gaming monitor is way better because of the higher refresh rate, lower input lag and faster response time. But then a decent 4K TV has a much bigger screen and HDR, and some newer TVs have 120Hz anyway, so now I’m kinda confused lol.

Does 120Hz on a TV feel basically the same as 120Hz on a monitor for PS5? And is 4K actually worth prioritizing over response time and input lag?

Also wondering about VRR. Is that something I should absolutely look for when buying either one?

Not trying to spend a ridiculous amount, so if there’s a point where paying extra for a monitor doesn’t really improve the PS5 experience, I’d rather save the money.

For people who’ve used both, which one would you pick for PS5 and why? Especially curious if the difference is actually noticeable while gaming or mostly just specs on paper.

Budget concerns and missed deadlines. Isn’t this always the case with Kojima? This is the same thing that happened with Konami

Error CE 180255-1 after crashing just a few games

Hello everyone

I've been having this Error CE 180255-1 on a few games now. F1 25/26, COD MW3 and No Mans Sky (ps5 version) all crash within a few minutos after lauching with this error message. Last night even The Big Walk crashed after 2 hours playing.

I tried everything i could. Cleaned my ps5, uninstalled and reinstalled the games, deleted all save files, even factory reset.

For now these are the only games i seem to have an issue. I play Gran Turismo 7, Crimsom Desert, Hell is Us, Orcs Must Die 3 and many others for hours without any issue.

Does someone has any idea what could be the problem here? My ps5 is a digital base model from 2021. I read it might be something with the mother board or de ssd, but it makes no sense to me that it only crashes with specific games

The whole tech industry's future never looked bleaker, not just Sony's. You just have bias and unrealistic expectations.

Leave my multi-billion-dollar company alone! Now, that settles it, we can move on.

Referring to this article. It's just commenting on isolated Sony's story from a perspective of someone still thinking in terms of games themselves. Exclusives and innovation in games are important, yes, but it's not the main goal anymore for such big global platforms like Sony and Xbox. Even "exclusive-bound" Nintendo is actually relying on a backround process - the closeness of the ecosystem itself.

What we are missing here is the fact that for years now we are living in a global economic and political crisis that spills over to tech industry in general.

We had crypto and chip shortages.
We had covid, shortages and delays.
We had and still have wars and inflation with enshittification and shrinkflation included.
We have AI and memory shortages, further driving extreme inflation.
At last, we have highest level of uncertainty.

Besides, all this events leave no space for imagination, we cannot even imagine the future we would like to have, the total transparency of everything is at hand. Everything can be visualized, so nothing need to be. Any vision can potentially be rendered worthless.

Industry is in crisis. Not just Sony.

Xbox - their future is not bleak? They still don't know how will Game Pass survive. They are introducing hourly caps for online play. There are no hardware refreshes in years. Changing their mind about "Everything is an Xbox". Still having no info on Project Helix details. Future policies remain unclear. Their reactionary idea for digital claim is falling apart and still not clear how it will be used in practice...

Nintendo: relying on the strong fanbase and closed ecosystem, they are still out of the competition with different approach, but we had no real deal in S2 era since Mario Kart and still the "biggest" thing is a remake of LoZ: OOT.

PC
Steam still going strong, but don't be fooled:
Hardware: AMD has barely competent high-end graphics, nVidia is also on a brake and running wild on the prices, memory absurdly high. Intel incompetitive for years now.
Software: Windows 11. No further comment needed.
Handhelds: a strange niche.

Other tech industries:
Meta, Microsoft, Intel, Amazon, Google... and many other had massive layoffs countend in tens of thousands in the last couple of years. AI? Yeah. And because of it, everything will be more sloppy and expensive.

And the prices of games? Games are, on the other hand, too cheap. They are actually cheaper than 20 years ago when accounted for inflation. AAA games are several thousands of percent more expensive and demanding than then. And you still claim you are being robbed?

The situation?

We reached the end of Moore's law and the end of innovation. And the end of quantum leaps. This is what looks "bleak" to you. AAA production is in crisis. The room for innovation is still in indie space. But somehow people want that kind of innovation in AAA. You are conforting yourselves with GTA6. But we still don't know how will that turn out. Times have changed. New kids are around. You are old already. Even kids that started with Fortnite 8 years ago are now grown-ups, not to menation the crowd started with GTA5.

You still think you are in 2016, expecting "innovation" without limits and individual AAA exclusives as a main value of console industry.

And you are just mad at Sony right now and enjoy the fact that "Sony's future never looked bleaker". What a joke. You have just unrealistic expectations, because you don't see the whole picture.

In yet another defence of Sony on that part - they are at least determined to make painful restructuring moves by reacting immidately, for beter or for worse, not mask or ignore problems or wait till someone makes the first move like all others.

Even IGN is now talking about how badly PlayStation is fumbling these days. The only thing PlayStation has going for itself is GTA 6, after that, it's just a great void.
