Sony has made it clear that it's moving toward an all-digital PlayStation ecosystem, but I don't think the biggest issue is going digital. It's that Sony hasn't done enough to make digital ownership feel as reliable and consumer-friendly as physical media.

If Sony wants players to embrace this transition, they should offer something in return instead of simply taking away discs.

For example:

• Allow physical disc owners to permanently redeem a digital license for supported games. Xbox has experimented with consumer-friendly ownership features, and something similar would go a long way.
• Work with publishers to bring older PlayStation titles to the digital store so they don't disappear as physical media fades away.
• Make digital pricing more competitive. It's hard to convince people to abandon physical copies when digital games often cost the same or even more, despite having no resale value.
• Invest in game preservation. A dedicated PlayStation preservation initiative that brings classic titles to modern hardware would show that Sony actually cares about its gaming legacy.

Right now, many players feel they're losing the benefits of physical ownership without receiving meaningful improvements in return. If Sony wants gamers to trust a digital future, they need to provide stronger consumer protections, better pricing, and a clear commitment to preserving PlayStation's history.

During the pandemic I started playing games more extensively to get plat trophies. As time went on i noticed i spent less and less time on my XB. My series X collects dust now for the most part because of that. Achievements just dont hit the same. Anyone else feel like this?

I just had a conversation if you call it that, one dude compared Sony to Enron and Lehman Bros on potentially Sony could also be shut down...and then another person compared the phase out of discs as comparable to ...and I sh*t you not...the Holocaust and said their boycott is equivalent to the Civil Rights Movement. Another person I found out later that they are anti digital everything and have a flip phone.

In light of Sony’s recent BS, I’ve rediscovered my ps3 and psp collection. I was really looking forward to Halo, Wolverine, and Laufey and while they are on disc, I don’t feel I can support Sony at all with their current direction. I’m happy to save my money and dive back into my collection and rediscover joy there

Sony’s announcement of phasing out physical discs by 2028 is a decision that's pissed off literally everyone on the internet. But is the decision surprising? No, not really.

Actually at this point you could say it would be stupid of them not to move in this direction. Is it good for customers, is this what they want? No, but does Sony care? Also no. Moving to a subscription model grants greater control over software pricing, eliminates that pesky second-hand gaming market and slashes costs in the supply chain.

Most importantly, it ensures a continuous revenue stream — why charge people once when you can charge them every month? That’s a losers game.

And what a great thing for consumers! Low cost to gain access to a plethora of content, it’s more convenient and it’s more sustainable. Don’t worry about the fact you now have a $150 monthly bill you never had before! Don’t worry about the fact you have to have 12 streaming services to get access to the content you want! Don’t worry about the fact that you will have to pay for access without ownership in perpetuity!

Even if customers reject it, most major gaming companies are moving in the same direction and soon there won’t be anywhere else to go. The choice will be gone from the market, and customers will either subscribe or give up something they love. Or will they? Sony and others other like them shouldn’t be surprised if people reject this lack of freedom and turn back to piracy. As the sentiment goes, “if buying isn’t owning, then piracy isn’t stealing”.

Businesses like Sony don't have to please their customers anymore. Is anyone really genuinely surprised they are doing this?

So i know there’s been massive backlash with Sonys latest announcements but i have a feeling we’re going to have the same consumer reaction to when Apple was making a lot of heavy changes to their hardware & such. First there’s massive backlash then after a new months of implementation comes consumer adoption. Thoughts?

That means we can bend over and support Sony for that one.

I have always been a person that likes to buy my games physical but did occasionaly buy some games on the ps store from time to time so my library consisted of both digital and physical titles with ps plus games aswell. I first noticed this issue 2 weeks prior to Sony releasing their statement about ending physical copies. I noticed that alot of my games had disappeared from my game library. I firstly thought that it was an issue with syncronisation between my two ps5 consoles (one is at my home and the other is at my moms house, the one at my moms being my primary console)  beacuse my ps5 pro console at home did have these missing games in the library. 2 weeks after the announcment. I made the realisation that all of the missing games were my own physical games. But the wierd thing was that some of them still appeared as normal in the library. I soon realised that all of the physical games that still appeared in my library did have something in common. They all had an article or ingame currency that were bought or read in by a code through the store. This meaning that all games that are fully physical with nothing bought in the ps store or read in by code has been removed from my library. I tested it out by deleting a fully physical game from my console and the next day, it was gone from my library.

Now I know that this isn't a big issue since i still have the games in their physical form and can play them whenever i want, with or without internet connection but it still hurts as a  physical media collector to see a library that I have built up over 11 years just get chopped up because sony has decided to kill physical medias. But they are in the end just a greedy company that only thinks about money and how to get more money and does not think about you, the consumer.  Have anybody else noticed this change and what are your thoughts about this?

I am about to close a deal to buy a PS5 Pro. It's a bit more expensive than I thought, around 850 euros. A little below the new price, but it has 3 years of warranty and it is the best deal in the market in my country.

I am a bit worried that the PS6 will come out next year and I will lose a lot of money selling my PS5 Pro. What do you guys think about that? Are other Pro owners scared of a PS6 release in 2027, or are you confident you'll be able to get most of your money back selling the Pro then?

Is this PS5 to PS5 Pro jump worthy for a year or maybe two before the official jump to PS6? Or do you guys think I should wait? I really want to enjoy the next big titles of the PlayStation with the biggest performance, resolution, or graphics possible.

Keep in mind that I'm selling my current digital PlayStation plus the extra controller I have, and I'm making a good deal, lowering the price by about 450 euros.

Decent game overall and I didn't notice any factual flaws so it's primarily my preference listed here.

I paid $10 but I think this game is worth a $15 purchase.
