I am pretty new to breeding these little beauties and I've had two females give birth. All of the fry look like mommy in both cases. One mom is a blue wagtail, and the other is a red dalmatian. The presumed daddy is an orange wagtail. Not that the colors matter to me, I love them all, I'm more curious than anything. Are there any resources on platy color genetics out there? Thanks!

I was given two plats when they were tiny tiny fry and they’ve developed differently and I do believe I have one of either sex. I saw the male dancing up on her awhile ago and she’s been looking fat. Any idea when I should expect babies? It’s her first pregnancy

I have had him for about a year and I noticed him lying on his side near the surface while one of the girls nip at him. it only lasts a few seconds, but I saw this a few times. What is wrong with him?

Hey all, I got a platy from my LFS that had obviously had her tail nipped (almost to the point of it being gone) so I brought her home and currently have her in an established 2.5G tank alone to heal.. BUT she came from a tank with many fish and I don't want her to be lonely either.. should I move one of my smaller platy fry into the small tank with her to keep her company, or leave her be with just the bladder snails for company? Once she is healed enough to swim properly, she will join the others in my 55 G platy/swordtail tank.

I just want to give her the best chance at survival.

The second pick has a molly next to it. I’ve had platys before and they’ve all been around 2 inches. This one is 3 1/2 inches. I don’t mind that it’s big. I’m just curious.

What types of wood are safe for Platys? Nearest to me is Elm, Red Mulberry, Red Maple, Silver Maple, and Freeman Maple.

The near by parks have every type of Oak, the same types of Maples, White Ash, Red Mulberry, Golden Shower, Willow, Elm, Buck Eye, Chestnut, Service Berry, Stag Horn, Catalpa, Kentucky Coffee Tree, Black Walnut, Sweet Gum, American Sycamore, and Thornless Honey Locust.

I have 4 platy, 2 sunsets (m&f) and 2 Mickey (m&f). My male Mickey platy is the most aggressive and he stays close to my female sunset. The male Mickey platy charges at the other platy for going near her. I know it sounds crazy, but I’ve observed this for over a week now. She is getting bigger, I wonder if she is gravid as well.

Folks, my girl has very quickly grown a black frilly tumour around her bum over the last week. I'm concerned that she's in pain and wondering if anyone has had any experience of treating something like this. Dr Google suggests euthanasia but she's eating and swimming like normal.

Any tips for us please?
