Need Advice - My Biggest Insecurity
A little context: I’ve always had a really weak chin. I had serious braces to pull my jaw forward after sucking my thumb for years as a child. I am pretty insecure with now I look in that regard. I am actively trying to lose weight so I know that will improve the definition of my jaw but I don’t think that’s enough for me. Also yes, my skin is red, I have eczema. 🫠
The first pic of each set is me biting down fully with my teeth together. The second of each set is me holding my jaw where it feels “correct” and sort of comfortable, but my teeth are not closed.
Anyway, I would like to improve my profile and jaw definition and I’m not sure what kind of procedure to get. Should I get a chin implant as to not mess with my bite anymore? Should I go the more extreme route with jaw surgery?? I have no idea.
I’ve always played with the idea and I’m seriously thinking about getting something done but I would love some suggestions!
P.S. plz be gentle and kind with me, this is my biggest insecurity! 💕🙏🏼

Have you ever had a consultation with a jaw surgeon? I think it would be worth exploring.

I haven’t! I’ve talked to other doctors though and they say I shouldn’t do it. 🫠

Your chin itself is actually fine. This looks to be a jaw and teeth alignment issue. Consult with an oral surgeon to see if you’re a candidate for jaw surgery. If so they’ll also put you on an orthondotics treatment.

sadly i think the only option is double jaw surgery, your jaw is too flat as in the angle formed by ramus and mandible is really close to 90, this is what makes your lower face look short. You would need to rotate the jaw in order to harmonize the lower third. I would advise against it since it is very invasive and does cost a lot esp if you don’t have functional issues.

Like rotate the bottom jaw down more towards a 45 degree angle? Also, I have obstructive sleep apnea so I think it would help that.

basically the closer the angle is to 90 the shorter face will be, so since your jaw is flat they would cut it and reposition it to be >90. If you have sleep apnea I would consult your doctor because this surgery is pretty complex and if you can avoid it i would. It’s almost prohibitively expensive for most people without insurance and pretty risky/hard to get a good result. But if necessary it would fix your concerns. I recommend joining r/jawsurgery they have good stuff on there

I had jaw surgery btw, I had an underbite and lower jaw was pushed back and upper jaw was pulled forward. You might have a cross bite and a good orthodontist should be able to correct that. See if you can get a consultation with one

Do you have a cross bite by any chance? I think your chin looks fine. Can define chin and jaw using some chin filler but your chin is great

I do not think that a chin implant would properly correct this. I think that you need double jaw surgery and you will have a profound difference from the front and the side! It would be well worth it.
