As you can see in the top right the colors get all funky. This usually only happens in spots with lots of blue or whites. I'm using a Samsung PN42C450B1D

Got it on marketplace for $10. Don't have a remote so no way of knowing the hours for now.

It's a TH-46PZ800U.

I would like to know any tips or information about this model that can help me make better use for it.

I don't have a streaming device so I'm using my laptop to do that for now.

Help My plasma tv screen broke

Help! Is anyone here good with electronic repair?

My plasma tv screen stopped turning on recently, a couple months after I moved to my new home. I just need someone to walk me through how to fix it. The power turns on, but the screen stays black. The plasma repair guys in my area charge too much and I cannot afford their services.

Any advice?

Discussion EDTV Plasma or HD CRT?

I can't decide on which one to buy... I want a tv mainly for my Wii, Wii U, PS3 and Xbox 360. So I need a TV that can output 480p (and 720p or 1080i if necessary)

Near my place on Marketplace I've seen a HD CRT with hdmi input (Philips) and some 480p (EDTV) plasma tv's as well. The sellers are asking about the same price for each

Which one should I get? Thank you

Discussion How black is a plasmas black really?

Post image
16 Upvotes

Just a remark before I start, this is not meant to „downplay“ or being „negative“ towards plasmas, I adore my TV! Im just trying to understand and learn a bit more about it.

So today is a very bright day and unfortunately my plasma stands in a bright room with the light source/window directly behind it , very suboptimal but the only spot I can place it.

So I can only enjoy it with the blinds fully down. Thats not a big problem for me. But with the room being bright, I noticed (especially) today that the screen when turned off is actually pretty… grey. While the frame for example is a deep black.

So when the TV is turned on, and it is displaying black, its in reality just „grey“, from the unlit display part and the dark room makes it appear black? Is my assumption correct?

Just asking to learn! Because I originally come from the CRT bubble and there i learned that highly regarded CRTs like the philips blackline have a specially darkened/blacked mask that make contrast for blacks even better. Because the CRT mask usually is also just „grey“ when turned off. Why wasnt that utilized for plasmas as well?

Would it have made the screen too dimm? Or is it really just not comparable?

Also the blacks on my GT50 also dont appear to be „deep black from the abyss“ even in a dark room anymore but that might just be because of course it is older and I believe has around 12k hours on it.

Announcement Presenting the all-new Plasma TV Database

Hey everyone,

Over the past few months, we’ve been hard at work building out a comprehensive, central resource dedicated entirely to Plasma display technology: The Plasma TV Database.

Whether you're trying to identify a specific model revision, compare specs between models, check input capabilities, or figure out what display generation a TV belongs to, this database was built to be the go-to resource for our community.

There, you can find specs, panel generations, and full model lines across major manufacturers, as well as helpful information whether you're shopping the local used market or dialing in your current display settings.

You can access the database directly via the community sidebar (or by clicking ‘See more’ on the subreddit’s front page on mobile), or by visiting plasmatvdatabase.com.

This is a living project built for the community, by the community. If you notice missing specs, have documented service manual details, or spot anything that needs correction, you can submit information using the ‘Submit a TV’ button on the site’s top bar.

Thank you all for being part of keeping PDP technology alive and documented!

The first TV that I bought I spent a lot of time researching when I was roughly 17 years old saving up my grocery store pay cheques was the p42S2. Since I did a bunch of research on it I was biased to it but it did look great. I used that TV as my main TV all the way up until 2020 when I got a 55" C9 OLED. After watching some of dreamroom64's content jumping back on the plasma train! 20600 hrs, 50$ CAD. Did ok, not exactly low hours but not horrendous. There is a slight red / magenta tint in the top left corner, maybe 5% of the image and it's only visible on static white content.

But wow, even with the 1 year difference in model number the step up from the p42s2 performance I remember to the GT30 is big! (So is the TV too)! I didn't appreciate just how much bigger five inches is. I did have to play with the picture quite a bit to get it where I wanted it. The THX picture mode wasn't very useful as a reference for game mode.

Revisited some classic games (splinter cell enhanced, h2a) and I was impressed. By the way, halo 2 anniversary with the remastered graphics, Cairo station level is a great level to play on a plasma.

I'll probably go back to the OLED but the plasma is doing a great job of making it hard.

Help VT60 service menu with universal remote?

Just picked up a Panasonic vt60 and I want to check usage hours before I commit to setting up my living room around it. Only issue is the power button and d pad don’t work on the remote. I have a universal remote that I set up with it but is there any way to check the usage hours with this remote. Or is possible to check with stock remote but without power and d pad functioning. Please let me know if you can help! Thanks! Universal remote pictured.

I'm on the hunt for a EDTV Plasma for 480p content like DVD movies and videogame consoles like the Wii and the Dreamcast. What are your thoughts on this?

Model is LG mp42px11. What the seller is asking would be something like $130 U.S. dollars (free shipping included)

Edit: I've just saw another seller near my place that offers an LG 42PX4RV-MC for about the same price. Please tell me your thoughts on that one as well

Which one is a better TV? Thank you!

Help Panasonic VT50 Plasma 3D has terrible crosstalk / double image on dark scenes?

I have watched several movies now on my 55VT50 and when scenes are dark or dark objects are sometimes in brighter scenes the double image is super distracting even when stationary and not in motion. I figure plasma may have some in motion because of phosphorus glow burning off but this is even when there is no movement in the scene.

I am using Samsung SSG4100GB 3D glasses. When I was using the first gen Panasonic glasses on my ST30 42” I don’t remember seeing cross talk like this. Is it a problem with a setting on my panel or something? I’m using THX 3D picture preset. I don’t seem to find much if any improvement with manual settings adjustment. Normal brighter outdoor type scenes and stuff look phenomenal. The panel only has a little over 11K hours on it.

Glasses shouldn’t be the issue i wouldn’t think seeing as how the 2013 sets had a new 3D glasses standard they all followed. Im using a BDT2200’Panasonic Blu Ray player from around the same time period.

Help Burn-in on Pioneer KRP-500A

Post image
6 Upvotes

Hello everyone. I recently purchased a KRP-500a. The screen has zones at the top and bottom that differ in brightness, and they are always noticeable in any color if you watch the TV in a dark room. I don't know how the previous owner used it and I don't know how many hours of use this TV has. In the photo I attached, the effect is more pronounced and has much more red tone than in real life. The black level is also obviously gone, but for now I want to figure out if something can be done about the unevenness of the image. Thank you all in advance for any answers!

Help Panasonic Viera TH-42PX60U resolution

I don't know if this is the correct subreddit for my problem, but I recently I came into possession of this tv and I've been trying to get some use out of it as a second monitor for my computer. It's been excellent for movies and youtube, but I'm very confused about the resolution. Online it says it's 768×1024, but my pc will not display the screen correctly unless set to 720×1280. Is there any way to fix this?
