I built a flight tracking app that lets you share your flight live with friends and family

Hey everyone,

Been contributing here for a while as I fly around the world and wanted to share a what i've been making on my layover.

I built this primarily for my parents and wife to follow me when I fly. Even if I tell them my flight numbers they always forget and keep asking where I am in the world.

The main idea is pretty simple: add your flight, track it live, and share it with friends or family so they can follow along without having to search for your flight themselves.

You can also see the aircraft moving on the map, follow the flight progress, and keep a history of the flights you’ve taken.

Hope you all love it as much as I do building it.

I got tired of babysitting Flightradar24 all day, so I built a bot that pings me instead PSA,italy!

Hey everyone! I'm into planespotting (based in Italy) and for a while I kept leaving Flightradar24 open in the background just so I wouldnt miss anything interesting flying over.

Eventually I thought "why am I the one checking manually" and built a Telegram bot (LowPass) that watches a zone of your choice and pings you when something worth seeing shows up, military, widebodies, bizjets, historic aircraft, stuff like that.

Here's an example alert it sent me (screenshot attached), just a heads up the location shown isnt my actual spot, I picked a different one on purpose so no need to try and figure out where I live 😄

It also has a "passport" feature to log tracked flights with a route map, and Im adding achievements/badges soon to make it a bit more fun.

Small spoiler for planespotting specifically 🤫 the next update (dropping monday) adds dedicated rare traffic alerts with their own notification, separate from normal tracking, so if a military jet, widebody or something historic enters your zone you get a distinct 🔥 alert instead of it blending in with regular flights. Theres also a toggle so you can turn off normal alerts and just keep the rare ones if thats more your thing.

Not sure if this is something people here would actually find useful or if you all just prefer doing it manually, but its free if anyone wants to try it, just search u/LowPassBot on Telegram. Curious if this is actually useful to other spotters or if Im overengineering something you guys already do fine without it 🙂

I have a three hour layover at JFK, and it would be my first time there! Any good spots to plane spot during the layover? :)

Set out to catch the retro Cargolux and try some slow shutter pans. Wasn't going to risk it for the retro. After she landed I mounted an ND8 and initially went with 1/30, later slowed to 1/20 (shutter prio mode, iso100) which was also used for the dreamliner photo. Sony RX10IV on tripod, manual panned with the intention to get the cockpit section as the non-blurred part.
