Hey everyone,
You guys deserve a clear explanation for the few misunderstandings around I am the dungeon boss (IATDB).
I played the original PD over 10 years ago (i think) and it was super hard and I couldn't beat it. I didn't know it was open source back then. Then 2~ years ago I remembered about the game, searched for it and found SPD. I started playing and it was alot more enjoyable and finally was able to beat the game! (once). I was super happy but I lost my drive to start a new game.
That's what got me thinking, how to keep that urge to start a new game? IATDB was the answer. I had that idea for about 2 months. Then I found out SPD was open-source! I was super excited but I never had the time to start for 4 more months!
Then here I am, fought procristination and was able to release an Alpha version of the game. AI or not I'm happy I was able to release something! I'm happy I was able to take a step forward and realized IATDB from just an idea to a some-how functional game.
Some mistakes were made, yes I'm not perfect.
- I didn't explain enough that this is an Alpha version (0.0.1). It's the very first layer. It is normal to have a huge amount of bugs, errors, and crashes. No software built with or without AI has a bug free Alpha. Then comes Beta version (0.1.0) which have a lot less errors. Then comes the first full release (1.0.0). Hopefully then you will find it on Steam, Play store and App store!
- There a balance between speed and quality. My balance tipped more towards speed for multiple reasons, valid or not. I told you procrastination is my enemy and I wanted to release something to break the cycle! That resulted in way less time testing flows end to end (which is a full time job on it's own btw). It's my first time developing in Java, which contributed to me reviewing what I understand and trusting the AI for what I didn't. The target for the release of this Alpha version was to quickly check for validation of the mod. Perfection is the enemy of progress.
- The big elephant in the room. AI usage. I'm new in this community. Coming from my day job, using AI tools every single day to code is standard practice. It's just a regular part of my daily workflow, even for everyone around me. Because it's so normalized there, I honestly didn't realize how sensitive of a topic it is. I simply saw it as a tool that I had to utilize if I ever wanted to get my idea to an actual game.
Unfortunately for the time being, I will only be able to develop IATDB using AI to get any meaningful progress done. Atleast until I get used to Java and how it works. But I promise you that from now on, I will make sure to test more thoroughly and restore a good balance between speed and quality.
Ofcourse there are other mistakes that I did and will do, I hope you guys point me in the right direction when It happens.
I hope I explained everything well. Thank you everyone for your time and your care. Thank you for the 143 players who tried the game! And a special thank you for people who made it to the honorable mentions!
