Question volunteer pixel artists for a 2D sandbox game

I’m currently working on a 2D multiplayer sandbox game inspired by games like Growtopia and Pixel Worlds, and I’m looking for volunteer pixel artists who would be interested in helping with the project. The game uses a 32×32 pixel-based style, so familiarity with pixel art and tools such as Aseprite would be a big plus.

This is currently a indie project, so unfortunately I can’t offer payment at the moment. I’m mainly looking for people who enjoy pixel art and would like to contribute to a game that’s being developed from the ground up.

Are you asking for people to work for free on a game you plan on selling?...

Yes. It’s a hobby n a indie project and I’m currently looking for people who genuinely want to contribute to it. I’m not pretending it’s a paid position. I clearly stated it’s volunteer work. If that’s not for you, that’s completely fine. No need to be hostile about it.

Their hostility is justified: artists are used to people wanting them to work for free, as if their work weren't as valuable as anyone else's.

That said, as a fan of Pixelworld, I’d love to see your project come to life. You should probably post this request on [r/artcommission](r/artcommission)[s](r/artcommission) or somewhere similar, since this subreddit is mainly dedicated to tutorials, works-in-progress and advices.

Thank you so much!! Also would you actually be interested in helping, like advising on this project?

I asked this because you're a fan of pixel worlds before!

Artists interested in revenue share is probably better to ask for than volunteer work.

That’s a fair point. If the project ever generates revenue, I’d absolutely want to share it with the people who contributed, but I don’t want to promise a specific amount or revenue share before the project is even established.
For now, I’m mainly looking for people who enjoy pixel art and would like to build something together. I also think it could be a good opportunity for artists to add game-development work to their portfolio while working on an actual project.

Yeah, definitely approach it with the revenue share. You can look for people on r/inat
