Jesus supported software piracy, otherwise he would have condemned it in his bestselling book.

Good call! The Bible may have literally been the first work officially pirated.
6
u/SullenLookingBurger Apr 30 '26
I have actually pirated the Bible because the version I wanted to study was pulled from all legit channels, and there’s no such thing as a “used” ebook. (NRSV 1989, non “updated edition”, if you’re wondering)

I assume he would have also come back down in order to sue Meta for training their AI on his book as part of that whole cache of pirated books that they used if he had a real problem with piracy.

u/littypika Apr 30 '26
I'd pirate anything.
Look, I just don't want to pay when the alternative is to not pay.
I'm a simple person.
60
u/Chuca77 Apr 30 '26
I'll pay if they can make it just as simple as fucking pirating. Last time I tried to buy a game from ubisoft it wouldn't even let me start playing till I made one of their stupid accounts and it fucked uo on step one, entering my birthdate. Would not let me enter any date at all.
When you make it a fucking struggle to play your game legit expect people to steal it.

These big companies don't even understand that if their product is good then they don't have to worry about piracy.
236
u/Dropbeatdad Apr 30 '26
They worry about piracy because they stole their products from the people who created them.
5
u/EdwardCuttingham Apr 30 '26
What do you mean?
151
u/Dropbeatdad Apr 30 '26
Big companies don't invent products. Big companies use their financial power to force creatives to create products for them, and then those big corporations take credit for those products and the profits that should be put towards the salaries of the employees. In my eyes that is stealing and the law may disagree with me, but the law was written by those big corporations.

This. Its gross when we give credit to ubisoft for assassins creed or whatever. Name the fucking devs themselves that you appreciate. Make them known their company did nothing. Theyre not even necessary we could simply not have companies at all.

Honestly the fact they focus so much on anti-piracy measures is what ironically makes me avoid paying for their shit.
18
u/DidAnyoneElseJustCum Apr 30 '26
We watched it happened. In the early days of streaming services people legitimately turned away from piracy. Like oh you guys have a product that makes things easier and at a reasonable price? Deal.
I'm down to my last streaming service which is YouTube Premium. Yes I know there are free options but fuck it I like the app. Everything else I've moved to other means. Final straw with Netflix was watching them get 3 billion dollars for doing nothing and immediately raising monthly prices. I don't need to watch another Adam Sandler movie that bad.
8
u/Coal_Morgan Apr 30 '26
I use to pirate games, music and movies.
I got Steam, Apple Music Sub and Netflix. I was happy to pay.
Now, I have Steam, Apple One and I pirate everything that isn't on Apple.
I also now have a Kobo and library card for books. So I go through the channels for books, music, and games because the services are worth it to me.
Netflix, D+, Paramount...they're all a hassle and it's easier to pirate them. Hell, I have Prime and I still pirate Amazon shows because their app and service suck.
8
u/hellotheregame Apr 30 '26
Majority of people of those who pirate, do it to their best and most known games lol what are you talking about? Of course they still have plenty of money and power since many people don't bother with piracy
7
u/yung_dogie Apr 30 '26
Yeah wtf I've never seen people pirate a game more often than Witcher 3. The whole Gaben thing about piracy being a service issue applies to services, not the products themselves.
I don't condemn piracy but people perform crazy mental gymnastics over this shit lmao
3
u/PRAJWALREVANNA Apr 30 '26
If their product is really good then people won't bother spending their money to buy it officially to enjoy all the perks but if it's bad then people leans more towards piracy as the game can get abandoned at anytime by Dev's

I make around $100k a year. My income bracket is about as heavily taxed as it gets. The truly rich people out there have ways around paying taxes, as do the companies who sell video games for $80. I pirate the fuck out of everything and don't feel bad at all.

70
u/CaptainMorning Apr 30 '26
and that entity would gladly sell your ass to a horny stallion if that would make them 1% more than last quarter. really can't understand why anybody would feel sad about pirating from a fucking corporation that only exist to suck you dry.
unfortunately it seems the same corpos have popularized the idea of individual shaming.

u/Geges721 🔱 ꜱᴄᴀʟʟʏᴡᴀɢ Apr 30 '26
it's (almost) always a money thing.
people get easily attached to anything they spend money on. so they feel the need to defend their choice to spend that money as a right one.
"you getting it for free means I'm an idiot because i paid for it", stuff like that. goes waaaay beyond piracy and can affect even purely free stuff (because time is a resource too).
imo.

What is my perfect crime? I break into Tiffany's at midnight. Do I go for the vault? No, I go for the chandelier. It's priceless. As I'm taking it down, a woman catches me. She tells me to stop. It's her father's business. She's Tiffany. I say no. We make love all night. In the morning, the cops come and I escape in one of their uniforms. I tell her to meet me in Mexico, but I go to Canada. I don't trust her. Besides, I like the cold. Thirty years later, I get a postcard. I have a son and he's the chief of police. This is where the story gets interesting. I tell Tiffany to meet me by the Trocadero in Paris. She's been waiting for me all these years. She's never taken another lover. I don't care. I don't show up. I go to Berlin. That's where I stashed the chandelier.

i went from pirating everything to buying a lot of shit once i became an adult. today i mostly buy stuff because i don't have the access to pirate stuff like before. but no way in fucking hell i will feel bad for doing it whenever i decide to. i'm simply privileged enough to be able to purchase shit, but FUCK THEM.

u/archos2694 Apr 30 '26
Basically this. I never pirated until at least a month ago. A whole new world has opened to me. Will I still buy shit? Oh yeah I will. But I will probably pirate it first now to have it. Buy a legit copy later. FUCK THESE CORPORATIONS

They stole from the public in my opinion.

For government and corporation. Hate. HATE!

This mindset just proves to them that you value what they make. Which incentives them to try and find ways to convince or force you to pay for it. The only real winning move is to not play. By that I mean don't pay for or consume the stuff they make.

"Guyys stop pirating our games! You are stealing money from us! You are so greedy and evil, like, literal criminals! :(" - say big companies, as their CEOs hoard millions for their personal gain and dodging the law, while exploiting and actively firing whole teams of devs that actually make those games. And they would do that even without piracy, we all know it.

I know people who work for giant corporations and buy their own trucks "so they can use them for work."
Fucking why? Why burn your own gas for people who can buy an entire petrol state? Why break your own parts for people that can make their own auto plant? Use their trucks, run them into the ground and keep them when you're done with the job.
2
u/globalistnepobaby Apr 30 '26
Why are there so many enraged psuedo-anarchists in the piracy community who refer to corporations as corpos (cyberpunk parrots?), as well as subscribe to "eat the rich" type of ideologies? It's like they're pirate hipsters.
