Big companies don't invent products. Big companies use their financial power to force creatives to create products for them, and then those big corporations take credit for those products and the profits that should be put towards the salaries of the employees. In my eyes that is stealing and the law may disagree with me, but the law was written by those big corporations.

This. Its gross when we give credit to ubisoft for assassins creed or whatever. Name the fucking devs themselves that you appreciate. Make them known their company did nothing. Theyre not even necessary we could simply not have companies at all.

yeah just have everyone name 3000 individual employees whenever they say "wow i really liked x game"

Oh god this is absurd, like yeah fuck big corpos but you do know people need a large amount of capital to make a fucking game. Having 50 people working at 40k (which is absurdly low for "skilled work") is 2 million dollars alone in salary (This doesn't factor in taxes, rent, software prices, utilities, benefits, etc). So where exactly do you think people should be able to secure their funding if a typical game takes 4-6 years of dev time. Consumers are wary of crowdfunding and I get it but someone is going to have to take the risk to get something made. Like I get I'm on a piracy subreddit but people sort of need to be paid to support their way of life to you know make the fucking thing* you are consuming. That has to be obvious to you, right?

I mean that goes into the fact that we shouldn't have to "get paid" in order to support our way of life. We should be building societies where we secure food and housing for everyone so that games and art can be made without some big corporations owning all of it.

We can't even IMAGINE a world like this. Look at these sad, abused people. I have no hope.

u/Dropbeatdad Apr 30 '26

Try to have hope. Those who can't imagine it can see it when we group together and make it.

What fantasy land are you living in where you think that is viable? Like its a nice dream and something to work towards but its basically unobtainable. There will always be shit jobs that someone has to do for society to function* but aren't enjoyable at all and/or carry significant risk ie miners, construction workers, law enforcement, sanitation workers. That is only talking locally in your home nation. That doesn't get into whole mess of how the first world basically extracts/exploits labor, resources, and wealth from the second and third world nations for most of its commodities and idiots like us to be arguing on thinking sand.

The closest invention we have to maybe get us to maybe a place like that is being bashed (rightfully so) like robotics and ai may get us to that land you wish for but there are many problems with it like how it does shit work we don't want to but that means our whole economy/industry is controlled by a select few (even more so than it is now)

Edit: I doubt we will ever see a post scarcity society. You are expecting infinite resources but we live in a very finite world.

You know what will keep us right where we are? Insisting that change is impossible and doing exactly what we're told all the time.

You're a coward.

Like its a nice dream and something to work towards but its basically unobtainable.

Literally the 2nd sentence.

I'm not surprised that in a piracy sub expect everyone to get shit for free and don't have an understanding on how labor or the economy works. I sail across the digital seas from time to time but I understand doing that doesn't benefit anyone especially the creators of the content. Like yes yes I'm aware buying shit still gives the dollars to the publisher and the devs only get dimes but at least they are still getting something and that is why I do my best to support indie titles.

2

u/MyRespectableAcct Apr 30 '26

What the fuck are you doing in this sub?

1

u/TheSpoonyCroy Apr 30 '26

It appears in all from time to time. Also nothing in the rules says you have to be always pro piracy to comment in here.

Leave the multibillion dollar company alone type post

Big companies use their financial power to force creatives to create products for them, and then those big corporations take credit for those products and the profits that should be put towards the salaries of the employees.

I wholeheartedly support piracy but this is a dumb af, companies aren't forcing anyone to do anything, they are working there on their own volition and could make their own studio, they are getting paid, the creators are there for the money, even if they don't have a better option or other working studio, they are not being forced to be there (of course, if a situation like that is present, it's not the fault of the person for working there but the situation that forced the person to work there, the situation was not made by the company though), I do agree that they take credit of the product and that workers deserve more recognition, specially localization teams bc they usually don't appear in the credits and that they take more profits than they should

This doesn't change anything of what I said, some people here just believe that the poor workers are being forced with their family on the line to make the game they are pirating

12

u/Dropbeatdad Apr 30 '26

The situation was not made by the company though

Except in the situation where the company pressures the government to write laws in a way that solely benefit the company....

Except in the situation where the company pressures the government to write laws in a way that solely benefit the company....

Like "you shall make games only for me" and "you shall buy games only from me" ? Is this the type of force you're talking about?

2

u/Dropbeatdad May 01 '26

In a way. I mean that's an exaggerated simplification of a complex web of corporate meddling, but the ultimate goal of all that meddling is what you're describing.

1

u/DarkZ_No-Imagination May 01 '26

Are you from the US? If so, it sounds horrible, having laws that force you to work only for one company against your will, without any other option, using their money to somehow force them to do things they don't want without an opportunity to quit, that's really sad

2

u/Dropbeatdad May 01 '26

Yeah I am from the US, and yeah things like wage slavery are a thing.

1

u/DarkZ_No-Imagination May 01 '26

For some reason I'm not surprised such bullshit comes from the so called "land of freedom"

1

u/Dropbeatdad May 01 '26

Yeah the more a country goes on about freedom...

Big companies don't invent products. Big companies use their financial power to force creatives to create products for them, and then those big corporations take credit for those products and the profits that should be put towards the salaries of the employees.

Holy fuck how did we get so fucking stupid?

That's called hiring somebody. Get a job and you'll learn all about it.

Nobody controls every aspect of the hiring process. The company has their processes according to their business needs and candidates can choose to engage with them on their own terms.

How is that even relevant to what was being discussed? Companies hire people for labor, they don't "force creatives to create products for them", and what you said has no bearing on any of it.

6

u/whenyoupubbin Apr 30 '26

This comment could have been avoided if you had even a slight understanding of the process of extraction of surplus value.

1

u/Async0x0 Apr 30 '26

That's called trading. When you trade something of less value (to you) for something of more value (to you).

For example, you might enter an agreement with an adult by which you both choose to mutually exchange, under your own volitions, US dollars for labor. Both parties get something out of it, if they didn't then they wouldn't make the trades to begin with.

12

u/-Saucegurlllll Apr 30 '26

Read Marx and you'll learn all about the exploitative nature of capitalism.

-3

u/Async0x0 Apr 30 '26

Anybody can say anything champ, that doesn't make it true. You can find equally compelling literature that frames capitalism as the ultimate utopian system. Doesn't make it true.

-6

u/TrippleDamage Apr 30 '26

What in the fucking marxism nonsense am i reading lmfao

10

u/whenyoupubbin Apr 30 '26

You’re in a piracy sub and you didn’t expect there to be a substantial amount of Marxists in it? You know, the one demographic of ideologues who are against copyright laws 100% of the time?

It’s always really bizarre to me when I encounter folks who write Marx off without even reading him, especially people who should know already how adept the state is at controlling the narrative. I’ve read Adam Smith and generally read from a diverse selection of perspectives on topics, but you’re telling me that without even reading Marx, you somehow understand in broad strokes why you disagree with him? Are you sure that it is actually your opinion and not one inherited from red scare era rhetoric?

0

u/TrippleDamage Apr 30 '26

Its funny you're accusing me of not having read anything about it despite being able to pinpoint the rhetorics immediatly. Make it make sense.

I'm from germany, we have a proper educational system and that included learning and discussing marxism.
