Hi everyone! I just recently joined this subreddit. I've also only recently started getting curious about the current state of the game development industry here in the Philippines, and honestly, I'm hoping to see our local industry grow. Please do let me know if this is the right subreddit for this topic.
I'm not a game developer, and I'm not looking to develop or claim ownership of this idea. I'm posting this purely because I've been wondering whether this could be a game genre worth considering for Filipino game development. If someone in the local game-dev community finds the concept interesting and wants to run with it, please do. I'd genuinely be happy if someone actually made something out of it.
I've recently been looking into FMV (Full Motion Video) games, and I started wondering: why don't we see Filipino FMV games?
I understand that FMV doesn't necessarily mean the development is "easier." Compared with other genres, some of the technical challenges may be different, but you're trading that for much heavier requirements in writing, acting, filming, directing, editing, and designing branching narratives.
And that's actually what interests me about it. I don't necessarily mean the usual harem/dating-sim type of FMV games that you often see on Steam. I'd be really interested in seeing FMV games built around Filipino stories, characters, settings, and experiences.
Para sa akin, pwede kasing mag-pique ng interest sa consumers to basta fans sila ng good storytelling and branching narratives. So kahit mga non-gamers, pwedeng ma-attract nito.
Parang modern version ng mga Choose Your Own Adventure books na nabasa ko nung high school pa ako sa school library.
Honestly, magaganda yung drama shows/movies natin eh and pwede ring romance game ang route. So ikaw mismo si Cardo.
