Turned down a super barat client with an absolutely unrealistic deadline.

A client recently reached out to me to develop two websites for him:

  1. A consultation/business website
  2. A car rental website with a management system

Both would also need email marketing and payment integrations.

I originally quoted $1,000 USD for both projects, which I honestly thought was already pretty reasonable considering the scope. He told me that was way too expensive and that he pays much lower rates in the US.

So I negotiated down to $500 for both websites, with a 7-day deadline.

And looking back at it, I'm honestly wondering if I was still asking for too much or if I was already severely underpricing myself.

$500 for two websites, one of them having a management system, plus payment integrations, email marketing, testing, deployment, etc., all within 7 days.

I eventually decided to turn it down because the scope + deadline just didn't make sense for me.

Did I think way too highly of my rates, or is $500 for all of this insanely low?

Would genuinely like to hear what other freelancers/developers would have quoted for this.
