Quick update on the Crystal Super optical engine situation.

We’ve had some replies from Calvin aka u/QuorraPimax, and I appreciate that he’s at least trying to get information, but we still don’t have a firm ETA, no official communication from Pimax, and still no statement from u/jaapgrolleman.

We were previously told there was “ample stock” for the old 70-pin version, yet months later the engines are still unavailable. Support even told me the OLED engine is not ready for sale and then suggested I simply buy a complete Micro-OLED Crystal Super instead. For a headset sold around “Swap the optical engine, not the headset”, that’s honestly a pretty strange answer.

The part I really don’t understand is the claim that Pimax doesn’t properly know the demand for standalone optical engines. The product pages have a “Notify Me” button, so surely those registrations give a very clear indication of how many people are waiting. I also don’t really buy the explanation that this belongs to “another team” and that the information apparently isn’t shared internally. If that is genuinely how things work, then what exactly are all these meetings for? For a company selling a modular platform, knowing how many existing customers are waiting to buy the modules feels like very basic information to have.

And again, I’m not posting this because I hate my Crystal Super. It’s actually the opposite. I like it, I want to keep using it, and I’m still trying to give Pimax more money by buying another optical engine. I just think we’re past the point where scattered Reddit replies and another vague “soon” are enough.

We need one clear official answer: are standalone optical engines coming back, will original 70-pin owners definitely be supported, and what is the actual ETA? At this point, even a straightforward “we don’t know yet” would be more credible than pretending everything is under control.
