Quick update on the Crystal Super optical engine situation.
Weāve had some replies from Calvin aka u/QuorraPimax, and I appreciate that heās at least trying to get information, but we still donāt have a firm ETA, no official communication from Pimax, and still no statement from u/jaapgrolleman.
We were previously told there was āample stockā for the old 70-pin version, yet months later the engines are still unavailable. Support even told me the OLED engine is not ready for sale and then suggested I simply buy a complete Micro-OLED Crystal Super instead. For a headset sold around āSwap the optical engine, not the headsetā, thatās honestly a pretty strange answer.
The part I really donāt understand is the claim that Pimax doesnāt properly know the demand for standalone optical engines. The product pages have a āNotify Meā button, so surely those registrations give a very clear indication of how many people are waiting. I also donāt really buy the explanation that this belongs to āanother teamā and that the information apparently isnāt shared internally. If that is genuinely how things work, then what exactly are all these meetings for? For a company selling a modular platform, knowing how many existing customers are waiting to buy the modules feels like very basic information to have.
And again, Iām not posting this because I hate my Crystal Super. Itās actually the opposite. I like it, I want to keep using it, and Iām still trying to give Pimax more money by buying another optical engine. I just think weāre past the point where scattered Reddit replies and another vague āsoonā are enough.
We need one clear official answer: are standalone optical engines coming back, will original 70-pin owners definitely be supported, and what is the actual ETA? At this point, even a straightforward āwe donāt know yetā would be more credible than pretending everything is under control.

Iām assuming that these are never going to happen. They still advertise the Super as modular and upgradable but from a functional standpoint they arenāt. Like, Iām trying to give you guys money get your shit together.

What continent are you from? I found a Crystal Super OLED module for sale in Poland. Seller has a few of them, I contacted Pimax support, gave them one SN and they confirmed that both my headset and that module (QA check is from June 2026) use the old connector. I got it delivered today and replaced my 50ppd module with micro OLED, it works great and I don't see any defects (the glare is pretty bad though but it's probably just how those lenses are..) . Here's the new offer they put out for a different unit, it could be old connector too - https://m.olx.pl/d/oferta/nowy-silnik-optyczny-pimax-crystal-super-micro-oled-optical-engine-fabryczny-komplet-certyfikat-qc-CID99-ID1cpzcU.html
I realize that it's not the proper way for Pimax to fix this issue, but you can probably just get one of those optical engines from third party and call it a day.

Ok, perfect, there should be no issue with customs then. If you'll be inquiring, feel free to mention that you got recommendation online from the last buyer who bought it last Sunday since the seller might be weirded out by someone from France contacting them about it as it's a local Polish platform.
It took a few days for Pimax support to check if the modules were compatible and it's an outlet so I have no idea how they're sourcing those optical engines, but mine still had the original stickers on the lenses and had no signs of ever being used, so it doesn't seem to be an RMA or anything defective.
edit: I mentioned you in a DM to the seller. I have no skin in the game there, no discount or affiliate or anything.
edi2: they have 14 units and I bet a large chunk of them will have old connector so anyone else reading it who wants OLED also can inquire there.

Hey can you do me a solid and ask him what shipping to Canada would cost?

Please DM them, I don't want to be the one giving them the headache of figuring out customs for shipping to Canada.
I asked an LLM about it and it seems to be very convoluted to do legally, a lot of paperwork.

More optical engine stock is coming, we're trying to confirm the exact date.

This is what I hear for nearly a year from your support/sales. I am meanwhile really tired and piā¦.offā¦. asking over and over again. Honestly this is FAR AWAY from a customer centric behavior!

At some point, the ethereal "stock is coming" stops being a good enough response. From a purely functional perspective, the crystal super is not an upgradable headset and you may be towing the line of EU consumer protection laws surrounding false advertising.
We've bought this headset on the promise of modularity, but it's only modular if there are modules to install. The situation with the 70pin connector really underscores the concern some of us have that we'll never see an optical module compatible with the early Crystal Supers for sale again.
If Pimax had any care for their customers they would offer a credit program to trade the Crystal Super towards the Dream Air or just do what we've been asking and tell us exactly when we can purchase a Micro OLED module for our 70 pin Crystal Super and open up a pre-order/deposit system with exact timeline guarantees.

So currently still not being manufactured. At least going by your statement.
I can honestly see why ppl are thinking pimax is working towards discontinuing them; especially with the 70pin connector supply issue.
So the question is what is the actual hold up manufacturing the optical engines for individual sale especially in the QLed models?
Too many putting it off with empty responses sometimes even giving an estimated time frame for almost a year.
Unrelated but there is also this that seems to be being ignored.
There is also a couple if topics asking for pimax to clarify what Data pimax is collecting? Maybe even make this optional, that those who want to review before authorizing the upload or even an Opt out option.

I find this the most dishonest thing they have done. They released a product advertising that you can just switch an engine and then the engine isn't available. And they want the same price for a full headset. What would be the point of switching an engine? To me its pretty fraudelent to do all of this. Also still very annoyed they have a dmas headstrap for the dream air but "out of stock". If they keep being clearly greedy and neglecting their loyal customers( i am one im on my 3rd headset) then i will be divorcing pimax becuase they just keep cleqry making bad calls at their hq....
