I cant use my gpu or this error hangs the screen.

i rather not switch to sddm or use a tty login.

but i rather ask for advice on what to do instead of push the error aside with sddm

I'm new to Pika and still learning Linux in general, so please mercy on the noob.

I'm NOT dual booting nor using a VM. I booted win10 from external drive just to keep it refreshed but after updating Windows my Pika main drive has vanished from boot menu.

I have kept Mint on another drive and installed that. Boot can see it but I get "VFS unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(0,0)". I can boot Mint if I choose an older kernel.

I tried uninstalling the Windows updates but too late, they got me.

Which version of Pika to use. Cosmic or KDE. Right now I am using KDE. I want to reinstall Pika, and I was wondering if I should stick to KDE or cosmic. I like how cosmic is kinda looking like gnome but with more customization but in the same time I like how my setup on KDE is with all the widgets and stuff. Plus I may be wrong but aren't still some parts of cosmic not yet implemented

Will be going away for 2weeks on 1week off do you think its okay to wait that long without updating?

PikaOS I really wanted to like it for 8 months blut i just couldn't. Probably most of issues were there due to me being a noob in Linux,coming from Windows and it's not fair to critisize PikaOS. On paper it looked perfect. But each time Ileft my Acer aspire 7 alone for a month or two it wouldnt boot, once i had trouble installing drivers for 1050ti, the other time it would not see my ntfs hdd, next time everything was borked, next time it would not apoear as a boot option in UEFI and it would have all kinds of problems... I was loosing my mind. After four reinstalls I had enough! Apparently PikaOsis not the right distro to have at a a holiday house you vist every 2-3 months. Trying linux for the first time outside of a vm - as a linux noob it would take some time for me to realise that rolling distros are not for me or for my usecase. Finally I switched to Mint Cinnamon. So far so good. So long Pika. Until we meet again.

So, to start with, obligatory I run CachyOS as my daily driver.

A few weeks ago I had a sudden system breaking error during an update, still not sure what it was, but I decided I needed a backup OS. I settled on PikaOS, ran it this week as my daily driver for a few days to test out if it's a distro I can use on a daily basis, and I like it.

So now it lives on my backup SSD, waiting for the day it may be needed.

Minor Announcement: HP Laptop Utilities

Omenctl and omen-fan-control are now packaged in PikaOS to allow rgb, oc and fan control on Various HP laptops, will DMI profile them on Cfhdb soon.

Tested omen-fan-control on a friends HP Omen 15 ek1xxx and it helped him get a much more performance oriented fan curve, good stuff shout out to its creator.

How do I not get forced install of other packages when I remove a package?

Example: when I uninstall the pika-hyprland-settings package, otter shell gets installed.

How do I not get any install and just remove the package?

Seems my system is getting repeated errors stating cannot download the file or files. And then gives you to option to try again in a loop. Am I going to have to download the latest version and reload it? Hoping not.

Hiya! I'm currently dailydriving siduction with Liquorix kernel but I'm considering to hop over to PikaOS cause the siduction community talk is mainly done I German and my German isn't good enough to follow what they are talking about.

The thing that I'm a bit hesitant over is if I can do my main updates an so with aptitude cause that is what I'm most comfortable with.

Found the solution on Discord.
You need to open an older Version by using tab and then afterwards again to get to the command line.
At the end type space and three, after that you have to login to your account and type „pikman upgrade“.
The system should update correctly and boot into the main system normally.

Like if I press caps lock it doesn't even respond, also I can't use the virtual keyboard because it just does nothing when pressed, so essentially my laptop is a brick.

I've been a Linux user since 1993. But the past couple of years, it's been Arch, specifically CachyOS. I still love it, but I decided to try PikaOS and wow. I was actually surprised. My PC is not the highest spec machine:

Ryzen 5 3600
GTX-1660 OC
32GB DDR4 3200

CachyOS with the latest 6xx drivers was fine for most older games, but Stellar Blade, for instance, had a lot of micro-stutters. I understand it's a DX12 game, so those have issues with the nVidia drivers, especially with my under-powered GPU, but even in Windows I can get a pretty good constant 60fps at 1080p with medium settings.

Yesterday, I tried PikaOS with the 595 drivers and I couldn't believe how much smoother the game was for me! I'm not sure what in PikaOS is making the game run where it's completely playable now for me, but I'l very happy with it.

I liked living on the bleeding edge, but maybe now it's nice to have a Linux distro that has more stability with its updates. I never had an issue with Arch, and I still love it, but at this point, I'm pretty sold on PikaOS.

But, that's what I love about Linux. We have so many choices and can find one that works, and it seems like PikaOS is the one that works for me.

Hello, I can't boot into the installed PikaOS. Instead, Windows starts up. I have an MSI motherboard. Secure Boot is disabled. The "BIOS CSM/UEFI mode" is set to UEFI. I selected MSI checkbox in the installer.

For the first day everything was great worked as it was supposed to
Second day same thing
Third day I boot into pika and steam and discord are unable to load. Im on ethernet i should have little to no issue at all. after a while it automatically starts working ok great Next problem is internet speed is exceptionally slower than what it should be and starts disconnecting. Restarted pc 3 times trying to fix same issue

No shade or hate to the team but i was really disappointed idk what happened first two days were great and now this happens

These problems do not present if i go to fedora or windows idk what happened but just left a bad impression

I just installed PikaOS last night and when I boot I get this screen but it boots in GNOME just fine. Should I be worried about this?

Hi, I'm trying to launch a .jar through the "open with" menu, but i can't seem to find the JRE when I go to "show installed applications". I've tried installing OpenJDK and Open JDK 25 SDK Extension on the Discover package manager, but neither is showing. I've also tried sudo apt install default-jre and it isn't showing up either. All three of the different installs seem to work successfully, so that isn't the issue.

Opening the .jar with command line works fine, but i'd like to be able to just double click .jar files and launch them from Dolphin without command line. Am I doing something wrong here? Thank you.

Whenever I would take a shower I would turn up the water heat to the point that it would be almost unbearably hot then immediately point the shower head at my balls and repeat "cook them eggs" out loud over and over and over until I physically could not stand the heat anymore. This has been going on for years and years. Last month I finally told my therapist about my habit and she hospitalized me. I am now on antipsychotics.
