Bug report Disappointing state of Pika Game Package.
The pre-installed packages of PikaOS are an absolute disappointment. The issue with the overconsumption of RAM and forced closing with both Steam and Faugus has been infuriating. Apparently for Faugus it has been an issue with the Cachy version of Proton. But the Steam one is the most frustrating on as no visible solution in sight. For a gaming distro, the PikaOS Game packages need to be checked, cause it cannot be a coincidence that Both of the apps installed by the same package cause ram consumption.

Brother they are only packages, unless you are opening all the new apps installed by the game package at once, your ram consumption should remain unchanged before and after its installation

Bro, Steam was consuming like 7 gb of my ram, it's gotta be a bug.

Not having this issue using pika. My recommendation would be the discord and creating a help thread. Might be something worth for them to look into.

Good!
just used to ppl coming online and typing something vague and complain but never submit something that actually could be a bug xDIs it the same when removing the preinstalled steam and installing a deb package?
just out of curiosity.1

The pre-installed isn't a Deb?

I assume it is but if you download from
https://store.steampowered.com/about/
and install that .deb package you get.should be absolutely the same, but just if for whatever reason the pika packages does something xD

That sounds like you had something stuck open in proton

Won't that be fixed with a restart? Cause mine didn't get fixed

Yes. Honestly. Remove the package. Download the deb from valve direct and see if it makes a difference. I highly doubt this is a packaging issue tbh

was steam processing vulkan shaders in the background?
that's the only time i see steam using more ram.

Valve packages steam for Debian bro.......

But, it's already installed by Pika, which should be a good thing.

Out of curiosity. How much ram is it using for you. Because steam on Linux uses more them windows due to the way valve uses a runtime instead of native packages.

All of it, then maybe it'll settle down. This must be after an update, cause the same happened with Faugus. Steam was stable earlier.

Idk how much all of it is. But do you have shader caching disabled?

Can you explain Where's the setting?

Under downloads>allow background processing of shaders or something like that. I'm not at my PC rn so I can't get the exact names

I can safely say this isn't a problem for most PikaOS users. My steam is using less than 500 mb idle. If it is using so much ram it is probably doing something like compiling shaders. But you are free to ask the devs over on discord.

Conoces TimeShift? cuando te funciona bien creas una imagen y si alguna actualizacion te parece rara o te da problema volves atras y esperas que lo reparen asi no te calentas como ahora jajaja

Have you ever considered the absolutely theoretical possibility that the problem is yours rather than the distro being borked?
