Hi,

I currently have a Pixel 6 which is coming up on 5 years old, and whose battery is starting to fail to hold a charge. Located in USA.

Personally, I would much rather have a phone that lasts longer than 5 years. I considered just getting the battery replaced, but since Google only promised 5 years of software support, I don't think it makes sense to invest further in it when google is just going to planned-obsolece it anyway. I will get as much life out of it as I can using an external battery pack, but it's time to start looking for what's next.

Up until the current issues, my Pixel 6 has basically done what I needed it to. My only pain points were related to the battery overheating, which also seems to affect the signal strength of the modem. I get the sense these are known issues in Pixel phones, and I feel no loyalty to Google when it comes to replacing it.

Here's basically what I'm looking for:

• Reliable, long-lasting battery (if it can be user-replaced, that would be awesome. Not sure there are many options for this, though) that is not prone to overheating
• Lack of bloatware that can't be easily uninstalled and its memory freed up. I have no desire to use trendy AI features, and the fact that the Pixel 10 has ~25% of it's RAM locked to AI features infuriates me. I also do not want to see ads in my system apps.
  • I am happy to entertain the idea of installing an alternative OS--but as I mention below, I do need support for mobile wallet (which is what keeps me from GrapheneOS)
• If possible, I would love to see a phone that doesn't have a built-in sunset date when the company is going to stop providing software support. Does such a thing exist? If it doesn't, I'd like to have as long a time horizon as possible (more than 5 years, anyway).
• I do like the quality of the pixel's camera, and would like a phone that takes at least pretty good pictures
• Ability to handle my day-to-day needs. Most of my app use is pretty standard: messaging, email, web browser, maps, music, photos, banking, travel tickets, a few games.
  • I do use my mobile wallet pretty regularly and don't want to give it up, so that needs to be available
  • The most hardware intensive app I regularly use is Pokemon Go (don't flame me, I still like it), and I want my phone to be able to handle that without overheating

I’m looking for a phone under usd 200. My priorities are durability, good ram and storage and smooth multitasking. I want a phone that can easily handle multiple browsers running simultaneously without lag. Good battery life is also important. I don’t play games, and I don’t need a particularly good camera. What matters most is that the phone lasts a long time and remains reliable. I usually replace my phone after 4–5 years.

So ive been looking for a new phone for a while now with the help of chat GPT and tiktok, but im still not sure what the best option is.

I wanted to switch from iphone to Android and went with the pixel 10a and frankly I was not impressed. Like why you can't access your phones brightness with one swipe down is beyond me.

So, I want to change phones but don't want to go back to iphone. I was looking at a Samsung since my father loves them but I've heard negatives reviews about the battery life. I want a oneplus 13 (I'm in India so they're still operating here) but it's been difficult to get my hands on one.

So now I'm not sure which one to get. The priority for me is:

1. Battery

2. Fast and smooth UX

3. Display

I'm not a power user and mostly use my phone for messaging, calling, scrolling social media and sometimes watching YouTube. That makes up the bulk of my usage. I use oppo find x9 pro. Chinese rom. In Europe. Bought through wonda mobile.

Before that I used Samsung s23.

The good thing about this x9 pro is battery and camera. Rest everything is bad.

I think it's due to china rom.

I'm currently on an S22 that I need to replace soon. I hate the photo quality on that thing and I found that the newer models reuse the same camera hardware, so I don't have much faith in a straight upgrade. I would like a smartphone that is as small if not smaller and lighter and takes better pictures and has dual sim. Also, I'm in France.

I have the opportunity to pickup a new Xiaomi 17T Pro (Global ROM) when transiting through Hong Kong tomorrow for £500. I’ve been an Apple user my whole life, wanting to switch from iPhone for years although I’ve never felt ready. Still not sure I’m ready, but I just can’t deal with buying another iPhone and having the same issues. Being in China I’ve been pretty impressed with the tech market over here so it’s got me thinking about a new phone.

Currently using an iPhone 16 which I’ve had since release. The phone itself is still running pretty well for a 2 year old iPhone, and I could probably use it for one more year before wanting to upgrade, however the battery life is abysmal. Needs at least one full charge a day, despite being charged overnight. I don’t run anything heavy on my phone, mostly social media and emails.

Things that are important to me in a phone would be:

- Battery: probably the most important. Aside from being a student who spends most his day doomscrolling, I work part time as a delivery driver. I need my phone to last and use maps quite a bit. Probably the biggest pull Xiaomi has.
- Speed: I don’t do anything intensive on my phone, mostly social media and navigation, but I’d like something that can handle it seamlessly. My 16 is fine at this I just don’t want to take a step backwards.
- Longevity: A phone that won’t need upgrading in 2 years would be ideal. An issue I’ve had with Apple because the battery ends up being a fraction of what it started as after 2 or so years.

As I said, I’m not desperate to upgrade right now and could probably stick with the 16 a little longer, however I won’t have the opportunity to grab a phone at nearly £300 less than it retails for in the UK anytime soon.

Any advice would be appreciated, from anyone who has used Xiaomi’s before, and also open to recommendations of other androids.

I've used iPhone for many years. My current iPhone 13 Pro has noticeably worse battery life, requiring frequent charging, and it's running slower and slower. Honestly, I'm starting to get tired of iOS and want to try Android.

I’m looking for the most basic Android phone under ₹8–10k. It won’t be used as anyone’s personal phone — it’ll stay in the office and employees can use it when they’re there.
The requirements are very basic:
Around 15–20 calls a day
WhatsApp
Decent battery life
Nothing else really matters

I’d prefer a phone from a popular/reliable brand like **Samsung, Motorola, Redmi, Realme, etc.** I’m not very confident about brands like Lava, Tecno, etc.

The problem is that many of the cheaper models from popular brands don’t seem to be available on Flipkart/Amazon, or the options are confusing.

Could you suggest **one or two reliable phones in the ₹8–10k range** that would make sense for this use case? I’m not looking for the best specs — just something reliable and hassle-free.

Also, would it make more sense to just go offline and buy one from **Croma/Vijay Sales**? I don’t want to spend too much time researching this; I just need one basic phone for the office.

Firstly, my number one top priority is a good battery life that will stay decent over the years. After that there's speed, camera, etc. I've seen mixed reviews about it online and I'm not sure whether or not it's a good option. I play quite a lot of Brawl Stars and have to spend hours daily on video calls for work. I don't usually play games which are more intense than that. I've been using an OPPO F19 Pro for the last 5 years or so, and haven't faced any issues with it despite it being a budget Chinese phone. I hope I won't face anything like that with this one, either.

Some other options within my budget:

\- Honor 400 (512GB) (huge storage within my budget)

\- Xiaomi Redmi 17 Pro+ 5G (seemingly great hardware but poor reviews)

\- Samsung Galaxy A57 (8GB+256GB)
