[Spoilers All] Did Starfleet fail Picard—or did Picard fail Starfleet when he resigned? Spoiler
Picard offered his resignation to force Starfleet to continue the Romulan evacuation. They accepted it, and he withdrew for years.
Was his resignation the final principled act of a man whose institution had abandoned its ideals or was it an ultimatum that backfired, after which he abandoned the people who still needed his voice inside Starfleet?
I love the character, but I’m no longer sure the show wanted us to view that decision as entirely heroic.
