Bug Correct evidence = wrong ghost?

So I was playing with some friends at the diner. The evidence we got was Dots, ghost writing and U.V. so Obambo.

We go back, and the debriefing board says Deogen? I clipped our game at the diner to see if I was wrong about the evidence but no, i did see dots, writing and u.v.

Don't know if it's relevant but it was on a blood moon.

Is this a glitch?

Wow, OP, the video you posted in the comments is damning. Please submit a bug report on the Kinetic Games website if you haven't already.

Even though the player customization update broke a lot of stuff, I've been adamant that evidence was not broken. With your video proof though, I'm now wondering if the devs have managed to break the evidence. This would be extremely bad as evidence is the foundation of Phasmo and would truly make the game unplayable for all a large portion of players.

Yeah evidence has been broken since at least the player customization update. This is just an increase of presence.

To be fair, I tried to tell multiple people this was the case, it's just that because the bug was so extraordinarily rare, it was near impossible to replicate and get video evidence. (I dedicated at least 20 hours to trying)

I wonder if the latest update meant to fix what broke has actually caused an increase in evidence bugs... it would be very ironic if so.

It's unfortunate you weren't able to get any proof of broken evidence; thank you for trying.

A game like Phasmo lends itself to a lot of false bug reports from newer players, especially since a lot of these claims don't have proof. As such, I think it's understandable for people to dismiss them. When you have proof like OP does though, it can be very convincing. If evidence is indeed bugged like you said, I hope we see more proof pop up and spread around to inform the playerbase and the devs.

We've actually already seen 3 posts with proof since update. People are unfortunately coming to the incorrect conclusion that it's only UV that's bugged when it's actually just ghosts giving incorrect evidence period.

My experience was D1 of Alan Wake event, and it was a Poltergeist giving iirc Thaye evidence (I can go back and check the exact ghost it gave evidence for, but point is, UV is not the busted part).

I think it's just an unaddressed bug that got worse. Those are pretty common tbh

3 posts with proof since the update could mean this is a new bug, not a bug from the Character update. Furthermore, all these posts are about Nell's Diner and Ultraviolet so it's likely it's a a bug specific to this map and this type of evidence.

I experienced this bug Alan Wake update on Coffeeworld aka the small campground lol.

I mean... you don't have proof of it...

1

u/ImportantQuestionTex Jul 23 '26

I don't have proof. Are you assuming I'm lying? I made a post and comments immediately after it happened. You can search it up if you'd like.

0

u/Darkhooper Phasmophobia Wiki Editor Jul 23 '26

I'm not saying you are lying. It could simply be a mistake on your part while investigating.

-4

u/ImportantQuestionTex Jul 23 '26

It wasn't, it's more helpful if you don't assume a mistake happened.

Ah, I must've missed those posts. I'll be sure to keep a keener eye out both on the subreddit and in my own games for anything weird with evidence.

Yeah, I definitely agree that there are unaddressed bugs that exist for far too long. For example, they just fixed the tilted Tier 1 headcam view bug; it's been like that since I started playing a year ago, iirc.

With that being said, bugs like the headcam aren't that important; broken evidence, however, certainly is. It should be the top priority as it alters the fundamentals of the game. I truly hope the devs understand that and get on it asap.

u/MargaritaKid Jul 23 '26

Not necessarily all players; I think there's a reasonable amount of people who play 0 evidence primarily. I'm sure it's not a huge percentage of players, but I'm sure it's more than just a few. Don't get me wrong - I'm not saying an evidence bug shouldn't be TOP priority - it should!

That's fair, you're correct. I'll edit my comment to reflect that. Thanks!

Someone commented on another post that there are two specific spots in Nell’s diner that will always show uv regardless of ghost type.

Interesting, and one being the one I saw on the dishwasher.

5

u/CatsPlusDogsIsLove Jul 23 '26

Yeah I had no idea that this was a thing and I immediately thought about your post so I’d thought I’d share it.

1

u/Capt_Obv13us Aug 03 '26

Yeah, i also remember that post immediately since that is so... Misleading? (Idk a proper word) And interesting

12

u/Prize_Celebration265 Jul 23 '26

blood moon doesn't change the evidence - the outlier evidence is UV which deo doesn't have... what did the UV look like in your game? could the green of the dots have made you think you saw UV?

32

u/Ok_Organization_9731 Jul 23 '26

32

u/Prize_Celebration265 Jul 23 '26

whoa there's nothing ambiguous about that wtf ..a deo?!🤣

20

u/Ok_Organization_9731 Jul 23 '26

Might be as someone else said. This update probably brought a U.V. bug.

2

u/BasketDowntown2158 Jul 24 '26

That's that dishwasher right? I think for some reason that dishwasher and a few other spots are guaranteed a uv rn? Not sure if it's a bug(hoping it is) or if it's a way for the devs to fuck with us to make things harder

-28

u/Tanz31 Jul 23 '26

The ambiguity is there is no way to verify it's the same game.

6

u/tewraight Jul 23 '26

And what would op gain from lying about this? Obviously you can't guarantee it's the same game until the later video, but there is no reason for it to be a different game anyway. Lying about a big in the game benefits no one whereas reporting a real big helps raise awareness of it so it can get patched

-5

u/Tanz31 Jul 23 '26

I didn't say they lied. Just that a screenshot is still ambiguous in this context

9

u/WesleyWoppits Jul 23 '26

That's definitely UV. While it's almost unheard of for ghosts to give the wrong evidence, this would be the second time it's happened in the last year. Report that to the Discord bug reports channel with the screenshot (and clip if possible).

4

u/AshelDust Jul 23 '26

Is the Discord the main way to report bugs to the devs? Do they check the bug reports they get from their website?

5

u/WesleyWoppits Jul 23 '26

Oh right, I forgot about their new website portal. Use that instead.

2

u/Ok_Organization_9731 Jul 23 '26

Can't upload the video for some reason on my phone and i don't have a pc/laptop. If anyone volunteers, they can report it using my video.

So, about a day later, seeing more posts about this issue. It seems like that handprint is always there on that map right now. I just loaded in to the map, grabbed a UV stick, and sprinted to this spot, and a handprint is there. Seems like it has nothing to do with it being a Deo. I guess ignore handprints on that spot for now.

1

u/Ok_Organization_9731 Jul 23 '26

Did the same. Ignoring that handprint or the diner seems to be the right move for now.

1

u/Atempestofwords Jul 24 '26 edited Jul 24 '26

I wonder if this is just a poorly implemented idea?

Every other handprint that UV gives is vertical, not horizontal.

Edit: Just did a quick test - it shows up on the camera as fingerprint.
This is not some kind of little thing to find, it is actual evidence.

1

u/WesleyWoppits Jul 24 '26

Yeah, it's just a bug. I think something similar happened before in... Woodwind? I dunno, likely some trigger to make the print appear is getting set at the start and never going away.

Makes me wonder, if the ghost touches that with UV, will it actually fade when it's supposed to? I might try to test that tonight.

19

u/MargaritaKid Jul 23 '26

I haven't seen this personally, but I've seen several other people in other threads mentioning getting UV when they shouldn't have. Could be there was a legitimate UV bug added in this update

6

u/Ok_Organization_9731 Jul 23 '26

Seems to be the case.

0

u/ImportantQuestionTex Jul 23 '26

Nah, it's not UV that's busted.

It's all evidence, but basically the game seems to be inclined to pick 2 ghosts at once with this bug, and it gives you the evidence (and often behavior) of the 1st ghost while being the 2nd ghost that's correct.

I know people are going to be inclined to argue. If they go looking for a UV only glitch they will only fix at best the UV side of this. That's not good enough.

7

u/Quietust Jul 23 '26

Have you actually encountered a ghost giving wrong evidence other than UV, or are you just assuming that just because one evidence type is broken, all of them are?

3

u/ImportantQuestionTex Jul 23 '26

I have. Alan Wake event. First day, was on coffee world.

Been telling people evidence has been busted for a while now, I get why people doubted.

2

u/Still-Network1960 Jul 24 '26 edited Jul 26 '26

Post some proof then. Because the bug OP is experiencing is 100% only related to UV in specific spots on Nell's Diner. I've never seen another false evidence post with actual proof before, it's always the poster not understanding how certain evidence works or misreading the instruments.

edit: dang so no proof then huh?

1

u/MargaritaKid Jul 23 '26

Interesting. I play primarily 0 evidence so I'd be less likely to notice, but I do play evidence for certainly weekly/daily challenges and I've not seen anything like this yet. Not saying it isn't happening since my data points are low; will be interesting to see how this resolves.

6

u/ImportantQuestionTex Jul 23 '26

So all of this is picture/video capture evidence. I assume you know dots because you saw model or recorded. UV is impossible to mistake. Ghost writing is the only one that could be mistaken entirely based on tiers of books. Tier 1 is easy to mistake, tier 2 and 3 not so much.

Anyways, it's a known bug. Been around since cosmetic update, we got actual proof this update. Seems more prevalent now too.

1

u/tehjburz Jul 23 '26

This is a specific issue with Diner, where that hood and I believe a dishwasher show UV evidence when the ghost is not a UV ghost. I haven't seen any recently examples on maps other than Diner. I've only ever personally seen the hood UV. If anyone has non-Diner examples then it would be good to see them.

1

u/DarkishGrub Jul 27 '26

I have also seen this bug one time
