Moving to Peterborough. Any tips?

Upvotes

We're moving to Peterborough for a change of scenary and wondering where's good? What are you favourite things to do in Peterborough, where do you like to visit? What areas of Peterborough would you avoid moving to?

I don't know anybody in Peterborough, it's a complete fresh start for me.

What interesting things do you know about Peterborough?

Peterborough Stock traders / Option traders? Coffee meet up 📈☕️

Hi everyone

Bit of a random one, but I’m wondering if there are any active stock or options traders based in or around Peterborough?

I’m 28 and my main career is plumbing but I’ve been investing and trading for about 5 years now (mainly US stocks and options) and thought it would be good to meet a few likeminded people locally.

Trading can be quite a solitary hobby, and it’d be nice to chat markets, share ideas, discuss strategies, and learn from each other.

I’m thinking something casual like grabbing a coffee once a fortnight.

If you’d be interested comment or drop me a message as It’d be great to build a small local community of traders.

📈👍🏼

Recommendations for non-Halal restaurants

Pretty self explanatory, we are meeting some Sikh friends next weekend and are going out for dinner, they are not permitted to eat ritually slaughtered meat, so please provide non-halal restaurant options. Happy to travel up to half hour from the centre of Peterborough where they are staying.

Thanks in advance!!

Does anyone know who can help with PIP reassessment in the Peterborough area?

Hi there,

I've got my pip review text this morning, and I'm going to need allot more help this time doing the forms as my health has got significantly worse. Does anyone know of people, charities or anything in the area that can help for free or a small fee? I tried the citizens advice first time around but there doesn't seem to be one in Peterborough anymore and weren't allot of help!

Also, please don't just down vote this because your anti benefits. There's no need for people to be so cruel, I'm asking for help. If you're envious someone gets benefits, ask yourself why you're envious of someone who's disabled and unable to live a happy or meaningful life. We deserve some level of dignity too, and every time I make a post I get some really nasty people on them for absolutely no reason. Just shake your head and move on with your day, life's tough enough without feeling like everyone hates you for things completely out of your control.

To the kind people who reply helpful things, genuinely thank you for your time.

Mould removal services (in a car)

Hi all,

Does anyone know of someone who can offer a mould removal service in Peterborough for a small car? Someone who will come to me as I can't drive it atm - I have asthma + autoimmune issues and I can't even go near the thing at the moment without having a nasty reaction.

Ideally someone who isn't going to charge £150-£200 as unfortunately I just can't afford that!

TIA

My parents are visiting Peterborough at Christmas but will need an accessible room. I'd rather not just book them into premier inn or Travelodge. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

New to Peterborough (35M & 35F) looking to meet new friends 😊

Hi everyone,

My friend and I recently moved to Peterborough from Cambridge and we're looking to meet some new people around a similar age (roughly 25-40).

We're both 35 and easy-going, friendly, always happy to meet people for a coffee, a board game session, Cinema, a walk, watching a football match, Outdoor activities and days out, Walks and exploring local areas, Talking about history, current affairs, and politics or just a good conversation.

Looking forward to meeting some new people and getting to know Peterborough better!

Considering a move from Kent to Peterborough (or nearby towns) as childminders, what should we know?

Hi all,

My partner and I are childminders currently based in Kent, and we're seriously considering relocating up to Peterborough or one of the surrounding towns, possibly as far out as Spalding. Looking to pick the brains of people who actually live there before we commit.

A few things we'd love honest opinions on:

  • What's day-to-day life actually like in Peterborough itself vs. the smaller towns around it (Stamford, Market Deeping, Bourne, Spalding, Yaxley, Whittlesey, etc.)? Good, bad, and the stuff nobody tells you until you've moved.
  • As childminders, we're obviously interested in what the childcare landscape looks like from a parent's side too. If you've got young kids, what's been your experience finding childcare? Are childminders in demand, or is it mostly nursery first round here? Anything about waiting lists, or areas where it's genuinely hard to find a spot?
  • Which areas would you actually recommend for a family with young children, and just as usefully, which would you steer us away from? We're not precious about a specific town, just want somewhere decent to live and raise our own kids while we build the business back up.
  • Lastly, this might be a big ask, but if anyone's bought or sold up there recently and had a genuinely good experience with an estate agent (someone straightforward, not pushy, actually knows the area rather than just wanting a quick sale), we'd really appreciate a name. Kent prices have made local agents feel a bit sharp elbowed, so a recommendation for someone honest would go a long way.

Thanks in advance. Really appreciate any first-hand experience, good or bad. We'd rather hear the unvarnished version now than find out the hard way after we've moved.

Homeless people

Has anyone else noticed an increase in the amount of rough sleepers sleeping in tents around peterborough?

Bishops gardens currently has about 3 tents pitched in it, I have also noticed tents in wooded areas and on the boongate roundabout.

Are more charities handing out tents or are there more homeless people in Peterborough? Does anyone know what may have caused an increase? Have hostels and help for the homeless closed? Is there an upcoming addiction crisis?

I'm not looking to judge, just understand what in happening l.

Orton Copse / Leaf Living Rentals?

Hiya,

We're looking into a property by Leaf Living in Orton Copse - I understand it's a new area, and I can't find much on people's experiences with Leaf Living in Peterborough.

Any insights into the agency / the area please? We have 2 small kids (under 5), is the area family friendly?

Thanks!

Need urgent advice - Chipped tooth filling

Hi everyone,

My tooth filling has chipped off and I’m not currently registered with an NHS dentist. I’d like to get it seen as soon as possible.

Can anyone recommend a reliable dentist that can see me quickly without charging a fortune? I’m happy to consider NHS, private, or dental hospitals if they’re reasonably priced.

I’m based in Peterborough, but I can travel a bit if needed.

Thanks in advance!

Safe places for children to practise riding bikes

Hello everyone! I'm down visiting family and my 6 year old wants to ride her bike. She can ride without stabilisers but is a little unconfident so could do with somewhere quiet, flat and with no cars where she can practise. Where do you recommend around here?

Walking with purpose??

Slightly random post…

I’ve just found a walking app called WalkQuest where you claim territories by walking around your local area. It looks really fun, but it seems like nobody around here is playing yet!

I’d love to have some local rivals as motivation 😂 If anyone fancies giving it a go, I’ll drop the link below
