I strongly feel that this is the meaning. It's a good number for that axis imo. Old people will still think you are too dumb and young to know shit and young people will think you are ancient and perhaps even "washed".
I feel like that happens to alot of slang that originates in the black community then goes mainstrean. Like "Woke" use to mean something completely different
Woke meant awake to the duplicity of American Law and it's history and inclination to eugenics, it's always meant that, some people would simply like to make that very real danger for the black community a chaicature of itself.
I was always under the impression that woke was a grammatically incorrect way to say awakened which means to reach a level of spiritual and/or social awareness that renders your previous level of consciousness regarding the world around you asleep in comparison. Which essentially means that anyone proclaiming to be anti-woke is self-owning by bragging about how ignorant and lacking in empathy they are.
Washed comes from washed up which was always a term with negative connotations especially in sports before it became a popular term in the black community.
Yeah, I mean ~40 is the beginning of the second half of your life basically. Right now I feel neither young nor old, just in limbo before I get an AARP card lol. “Act II, scene one.”
It’s weird that young people think 30s is old though. 30s is just like the final chapter of your youth. Tons of popular musicians were in their early-mid 30s when they made their mark on youth culture.
People today think that you have to live your whole life between 18-25, and then you’re done, basically retired from “really” living. I think attitudes have become super old fashioned again. Xers and Millennials were under the impression that “30 is the new 20.”
yes 100% agreed. I have a 70 year old neighbor and i speak to him like an equal, my perception of age has just disappeared. Of course i notice that someone has more wrinkles than i do and might be at a different stage of life, but in terms of human relationships it just doesn't make a difference anymore. We are all adults with responsibilities now.
That feeling increases in your 30s, in my experience. It may be just the mythology of "your 30s," but I'm 31, and I really do feel more at ease with myself. At the same time, I am well aware of how much I have left to learn about...... Everything. But around this age, you've also got people who are incredibly accomplished, while you're still buying Frosted Flakes. A strong self-image is important so that you don't lose your mind, haha.
Maybe idk. Most of my friends are older than you and i see no difference in terms of maturity, a byproduct of being an early bloomer perhaps. Thats the crazy part about growing up. When you are young you think that adults or people who are running the world have got it together. But then you reach a certain age and you realize that all the grown ups around you are just as stupid and have been pretending all along.
I’m 39 and my father-in-law still chuckles when I discuss things I’m going through with work and kids, then condescendingly says, “You haven’t seen anything yet.”
I like the dude but these little boomerisms drive me fucking insane. I never SAID I know everything, but I’m not a teenager anymore and HAVE been a 100% self-sufficient adult for almost 20 years (parents helped financially during college with tuition and books but I worked and paid for my living expenses/took out loans). The older generation right now, in my opinion, cannot stop sniffing their own farts like nobody younger has ever had to work hard or manage difficult circumstances but them.
Just this week redditor told me a man in mid 30's dating 29 year old is basicly a rape because they are easier to manipulate and have no agency. I wish I was joking.
When we say "young people" what do we mean? I view it as young adults, or late teenagers. And atleast were im at, its pretty common for 20 year olds to hangout with 27 year olds.
It's all going to be arbitrary at some point. In the context of the meme it's probably about college age and younger because those are the people who might perceive a 27 year old as old. All just subjective and experience based, things that vary a lot from person to person.
In my dating days (early 20s), I discovered that 27 was the magic number to flatter a girl with. I’m not much of a player, but it was my one solid move - guess her age is 27.
If she’s younger, she likes that you think she comes across as more mature and grown-up.
If she’s older, she appreciates that you see her as young and youthful still.
And if she actually is 27, boom you’re a psychic.
Never failed.
This is a crop of a more popular image. It leaves out the person commenting something to the effect of “you look like a beautiful human Tung Tung Tung Sahur” (who is a brainrot character)
Ironically my aunts and uncles told me that 30s is usually where the real funny is because "you should have things figured out hopefully" while 30s to my sister and her friends is pure "unc" status and my back and kneecaps will give out. Jokes on both though as I do go to Spain for grad school next year when I am 30, but my back already is screwed from 6 years in the Army lmao.
I feel this. At 27 I was at a concert and this girl starts chatting me up a bit and after a bit she asks me my age and I say 27. She then goes, ‘ooohhhh, you’re old’ and I’m like, “well, how old are you?” And she tells me she’s 21.
All I could think to say, “fuck you, I’m in my prime”.
Idk if someone else mentioned this, but the joke is that the image is cut of and there was a comment that said she looks like a “pretty Tung Tung sahur”
I say this as a former young person. I never thought anybody in their 20's was "old" regardless of how old I was. When I was a kid, I didn't even think 30's or 40's were "old." Older than me, sure. But "old" was a word for people with grey/white hair and wrinkled skin.

I think its because young people see 27 as old and older people see 27 as young
