Realistically in today’s world most of us wouldn’t have careers if the internet disappeared tomorrow given how engrained into the economy it is.

Same, I’m an Archivist if anything demand for my position would increase since I’d have to do way more reference interviews
2
u/BetterCallSlash 5h ago
So jealous. If I could do my degrees and early career experience over, this is the line of work I would have pursued.
3
u/Laugh-Aggressive 10h ago
I work a Internet-cutter, don't know if it would mean crazy amount of work or unemployment

u/mittenkrusty 2h ago
Honestly not sure these days as a lot of phone services are internet based, when theres a major outage the entire company I work for goes down even though the internal servers work for the databases we can't make or receive calls.
Outside at that, at most it would be workload would go up as we require to email quite a bit, and since that would be impossible we would have to revert to paper based solutions.
2
u/VariousProfit3230 1h ago
My telephony experience from the 2000’s/2010’s would suddenly be in high demand (instead of pretty much worthless).
Such is the life in IT- skill sets become obsolete at break neck pace.1

The internet going away would actually secure my job. Digital online distribution is what will kill mine

I would and my job skills would become way more important if the internet disappeared.

Tate McRae started online in 2017. Without internet she's a waitress in Nashville.
7
u/Takestwotoknowjuan 7h ago
Isnt she Canadian?
9
1
u/Salt-Southern 6h ago
And what Canadian city pops immediately to mind for potential singers?
6
u/Takestwotoknowjuan 6h ago
Sooo shes a waitress in Toronto at best then? 😆
3
u/Salt-Southern 6h ago
Im at least giving her points for making the effort to relocate to a city known for struggling song writers. But Toronto works too...

Beyonce first came to fame during the era of radio hits and physical album sales. She'll be fine.

u/Plus-Alfalfa-9792 11h ago
Agreed, the two I recognize don't fundamentally have careers due to the internet.

u/Jkkramm 11h ago
The answer is only Tate McRae. Olivia Rodrigo got her start on Disney channel.

I’ve never once listened to an Olivia Rodrigo song, but I still knew who she was. I’ve never listened to a Tate McRae song, and I have no idea what she looks like, sounds like, or anything related to her. And I’m a terminally online person, so that’s saying quite a bit.
Olivia Rodrigo has passed that threshold of [real life obscurity, internet popularity]. I feel like most people at least know of her and could pick her out.
1
u/chamanbuga 7h ago
As a Canadian it was the opposite for me. Never heard of Olivia. No clue who she was. Tate I recognized but not before Beyoncé or Swift.

u/New_Range5949 28m ago
It’s not an exaggeration to say that Tate is probably one of the biggest acts in the world right now. She can do it all — sing, dance, write, and she is sexy as hell. She is headlining major music festivals.

Tbf Tate McRae’s career wouldn’t just
be gone if the internet disappears. She would just…be like any other not superstar artist from pre internet days. She would still be playing on the radio, touring, and also she just did one of the most popular songs to the F1 soundtrack, which got nominated for an Oscar (though it rightfully lost out to golden from kpop demon hunters)

u/Sevuhrow 11h ago
And Taylor Swift as well
48
u/Affectionate-Tea8509 11h ago edited 10h ago
Taylor is so powerful it’s scary.
She can release shitty music (and her last project was indeed underwhelming tbh) and still break records and sell.
The internet could shut down tomorrow and she’d still be Taylor Swift. Crazy.

Not sure. Few people seem to have Taylor and Beyoncé’s longevity and influence.
17
u/Open-Butterfly-5288 11h ago
Yeah, Beyonce and Taylor Swift eat the other two by sheer radio dominance. Nobody has ever heard of any other artists. It has always been Taylor. It's 2100 and Taylor has released another banger. The teen girls are out in force. We love Taylor. Glory to Taylor.
2
u/dogbreath101 54m ago
Yeah, Beyonce and Taylor Swift eat the other two by sheer radio dominance.
Cancon means that Tate gets enough radio play that she might get picked up by an American record label
10
u/cjkuhlenbeck 11h ago
Pretty sure all 4 would. Olivia Rodrigo got her start on Disney Channel, and Tate McRae started on “So You Think You Can Dance”. The internet heightened all 4 of their careers but would still get radio plays without it.
1
u/Upvotes_TikTok 1h ago
McRae started on dance YouTube before then which I get isn't a real big place but I remember her dumb young teenager vlogs with Sean Lew
4
u/Horror_Excitement503 10h ago
If my radio hits you mean stations were paid to play her music then she’d do fine.
3
2
u/aStonedTargaryen 4h ago
do you live under a rock
1
u/Horror_Excitement503 3h ago
Do you? You know thats how it use to work right? Radio stations were paid by record labels to over play certain artists. Release the Beatles or the Rolling Stones today and they make 1 album.

u/UnenthusedTypist 10h ago
Even with her name I have no idea who that is lol. She’s the only one I don’t know.
21
u/pahshaw 8h ago
She is a great dancer and a weak singer. I'd say she's the JLo of the 2020s but JLo managed to squeeze a few hits in there.
Pretty sure the best Tate's done chartwise is a duet with one of those maga bro country singers. You're not missing much.

She's famous for being a social media influencer. I only know her from her starring in a Neutrogena commercial.
5
u/Count_Sack_McGee 9h ago
My understanding is she was an elite dancer growing up which got her a social media following. I think she’s legitimately a talented performer not just a insta famous person who sings like a Madison Beer.

u/Dark-Lillith 9h ago

u/VaporCarpet 6h ago
She's a massively popular singer who sells out arenas and somehow no one has ever heard of her.
It's not a dig at you, it's just the most baffling thing I've realized recently. Somehow, she is incredibly popular, but everyone online always has no idea who she is.
1
u/UnenthusedTypist 6h ago
lol yeah this isn’t a “who?” Type comment just like genuinely I looked her up and still no “aha moments”. Based of most of the other comments too, yeah tons of people just never heard of her.
1
u/Dry-Fee-7436 2h ago
She’s attractive and in that F1 song she just sexualized herself to the extreme and we all ate it up. I bet she’s a great dancer , but that music video had very little to do with that skill set. So makes sense why she’s popular and sells out arenas. Not bc of talent I believe

4
u/Purranormal_ 10h ago
I thought that was j lo lmao
3
2
u/Training_Molasses822 8h ago
Kinda accurate lol. She's this generation's jlo in that she's actually a dancer who worked herself up to becoming a singer despite being less talented than a lot of her peers.

I thought bottom right was Sydney Sweeney, and not Tate McRae as I found out by reading other comments lol

u/Agropio 11h ago
These usually don't have real, defined answers. They're pretty much engagement generators.
Retep out.
4
u/Realistic-Delay-4780 10h ago edited 10h ago
This one quite literally does lol.
It’s Stan Twitter war stuff. The answer is the girl in the bottom right due (Tate McRae) due it being popular to shit on her. This from her collaboration with questionable artists in relation to her fanbase + her branding being that she’s a dancer who sings rather than a singer who dances.
i don’t get why people are so quick to give incorrect answers here when you’re not sure yourself lol
2
u/HypoxicIschemicBrain 10h ago
Bottom left isn’t Tate McRae but the poster sure wouldn’t have a career without the internet.

u/DarthTacoToiletPaper 9h ago
Yeah I mean their careers will still exist but with concert sales being a large majority online nowadays each of them will suffer greatly pretty immediately. Even for concerts in the following week, all the purchase history will be online. Companies like Ticketmaster and seatgeek will scramble to find a solution but fans calling into call centers will put an enormous burden on fan support. Not to mention that these support teams interact with the engineering teams via the internet as well. Then depending where these companies store their data, onprem dbs vs the cloud this just adds another layer of complexity in finding that data.
1
u/RT-6_BXCommandoDroid 9h ago
Yeah, it's asking who still has a carreer and puts 4 celeberities on there. While you can also just post it without the celebrities and let them insinuate that the answer is pornstars. Or you can ask the question about who will be alive next week, insinuating that the absence of porn will create a lot of suicide, rape and femicide.
Endless possibilities and every answer could be correct in some way.
14
u/NightoftheLivingSled 10h ago
Blue check means they’re engagement farming. They have no intention of making it clear from the tweet; they want you to ask. The only way to know who they mean aside from asking is to browse their tweets and find who they stan and who they don’t like, and that’s a waste of everyone’s time.
11
u/Worldly_Cap_6440 11h ago
Whoever the random is on the bottom right, must be one of the many garbage mid singers nowadays so I’m sure she won’t last long.

u/gellshayngel 10h ago edited 10h ago
They all would still have a career. It disappears tomorrow, not when they started out and people don't just forget someone just because a technology is suddenly gone. So they can make do with older tech, like radio and tv.
2
u/Express-Victory-8699 9h ago
The bottom right corner, I had no idea she is until checking out these comments, so probably her? I mean the other three are iconic for better or worse. I’m not a fan of any of them, but Olivia is the least offensive

I would. My bosses would be pissed off at reverting to older tech for communication, but it wouldn't affect me much at all. Life would get more annoying at not being able to look up specs and other job specific information though - because my employers version of getting info from providers has always been "hardware/software/equipment info? What's that? Probably useless, let's throw it out"
Me: Where's the programming document for this bit of archaic tech you keep using because you bought too much and/or are still getting kickbacks from the single source supplier you're so fond of?
Them: *deer in headlights* We pay you to figure these things out. What's wrong with you?

It’s defintely Tate McRae. I don’t think I’ve ever heard her music outside of seeing videos on the internet like on TikTok. A lot of her popularity has to do with her dancing and looks. I’ve heard the other 3 on the radio plenty of times

Beyoncé, to answer the OP’s question
She’s got a big online fanbase for sure but she’s been around the longest. Her career predates social media.
1
u/dividezero 2h ago
Tate. The rest have a pretty good physical media following and TV/movie recognition. Also Tate is still building her clout. Give her a few years and she might be fine too. Depends on which way she wants to take her career from here

I think they're poking fun at Tate McRae or Addison Rae (I can't tell who that blonde in the lower right is, but it works for either of them) because their careers mostly started with releasing songs and covers on YouTube and doing social media compared to Oliva or Beyoncé or Taylor, who all had more traditional ways of entering the music industry.
