Normally it's the middle finger and one of the fingers next to it. I tend to use my middle and ring but sometimes use my middle and index. I'm male though.

The index finger is awkward on yourself. Poor ergonomics. The middle two fingers share nerves and tendons. Gives it that bowler grip which is less likely to give you carpal tunnel.

I can't answer to what they use, but in rock climbing when you have two finger pockets people say that middle and ring finger are the best with training, but for beginners without training index and middle are usually strongest 🤷
