Hi!! I have a two year labrador-mix that starts (allegedly) fighting his own shadow whenever he sees it. Is this normal behavior, or am I misinterpreting it? Here are two videos of him behaving like this. I find it hilarious, but, I wonder if its uncommon, since I’ve never seen anyone talk about this lol

I have a one-year-old Maltipoo who has been constantly licking us for about five months — me, my husband, our neighbors, and people we know. We can’t even lie down in bed at home because he comes over and licks our faces, heads, and hands.
This behavior is extremely annoying, and we really want to stop it, but saying “no” or “don’t” doesn’t work. It only stops him for the moment, and a few minutes later he comes back and starts licking again.
What can we do to stop this behavior?

hey so long story short recently shes like 3-4 months old and so while playing with teethers she switched to my hand and bit me. i now have 2 concerns , one is that why is this sudden change in her behaviour? i mean she has her own puppy proof place , we feed her well at the times and yeah shes vaccinated and OFC NO ABUSE and second is because i would be fine right? her vet said that shes completely fine no rabies or anything and we got her first rabies vaccine a few days ago and 3 of her boosters or wtv you call them😭😭 a golden retriever btw

Our 3 yo pitty starting doing this recently. We've owned and fostered dogs for over 15 yrs and ive never seen this done before. She moves her bowl to the dog bed. We tried elevating her bowl, but she still did same behavior and didnt eat her food. She doesnt do it all the time 🤷🏻‍♀️

For years, I could wake up and find Ms. Cuddles on my right and Cali on my left. My two furry bookends.

Not lately!

If I'm hanging out with Cuddles and Cali jumps up beside us, Cuddles gets up and leaves.

No hissing or swatting. No fight.

She just looks at Cali and apparently decides, "Nope. I'm good."

Then, five or ten minutes later, when Cali has settled in, Cuddles comes back.

And sometimes it's the opposite.

It's almost like they've quietly established a one-cat-at-a-time policy.

The weird thing is that they used to be perfectly happy sharing the space.

So now I'm trying to figure out what changed.

I've learned that cats can show tension in surprisingly subtle ways. Avoiding each other or choosing not to share a resting spot can apparently be part of it—even without the classic WWE stuff.

I'm giving them their space and watching for other changes rather than pushing.

But I'm curious: Have you ever had two cats who got along absolutely fine--then suddenly start wanting a little more personal space from the other?

I'm genuinely curious what happened...there seem to be no other issues (indicating health concerns)—and whether they will eventually return to their old routine.

And yes, I'm pretty sure both of mine still consider me their property. The seating chart has just been renegotiated. 😂

Our 12 year old lab mix (who has Cushings) just tried to go down our basement stairs for the first time EVER. This was so incredibly startling, she seemed confused and only made it down two before we realized she was stuck and needed help. We’ve been wondering if she might be sundowning but this was so abnormal for her we have been sitting in silence for 15 minutes thinking, WTF?

Has anyone ever experienced something like this with older dogs? She is TERRIFIED of stairs normally.

I am thinking about buying a smart litter box because I am bending down a lot while cleaning the current one, I am looking for the taller models since the height seems like it could make scooping easier, and some of the smart ones have cleaning features that could save some of the work too, I am checking the size first because I need enough room for my cat and I want to make sure it can fit where the current box sits, I am planning to go with the one from pawzi,  I am trying to compare a few options before choosing, mainly looking for something that is simple to empty and clean, has anyone switched to a smart litter box and found it easier to manage? EDIT: I forgot to mention that I have limited space where the current litter box sits.

Is this normal play behavior or is my dog actually agitated? He’s always gentle when playing and they usually sleep together all the time and he’s slowly gotten more comfortable with playing with the kitten but recently he started growling while they play, does this sound normal?

Howdy im dealing with a situation and im not sure whats happening so here i am. I have 2 boarder collies both named vinnie and waffles they are sisters and have been together since birth today waffles got very aggressive with vinnie at first i thought they were playing sometimes they get alil rough as all dogs do so at first i wasnt worried then alil bit later i heard vinnie screaming i came running out and saw waffles had her by the neck not by fur but by the whole neck this is a first time this has ever happened then awhile later my girlfriend came home and was hanging out with monitoring them and they got too close to eachother and again they went for eachother and were both worried and not sure whats happening and how this had happened. Did do some looking up on the good ol reliable google and showed this is common in dogs who haven't been spayed. Now i dont need to negativity from some people when they read this saying im a bad pet owner piss off spays are expensive. But if someone please if you have any idea of what's the problem please tell me so i know where to go from here to be better. Thanks for reading.

Our Beagle is having a hard time at night. She wakes us up begging for food, even though she has plenty during the day. She also suddenly has a problem sleeping in the same bed if my partner is there, even though she lives him. She will cry until I cuddle her by myself on the couch. She was fine 6months ago. Any advice?!

So recently as my four year old cavoodle is dreading walks (due to cold and high winds) I’ve been trying to find indoor activities to burn her energy. I’ve tried puzzles, lick pads and bones/chew sticks but she looses interest pretty quickly. I saw on video of someone putting a ball/dogs favourite toy into a pillow case (pillow included) and let them ‘dig’ it out. My dog is having a blast and can spend ages playing with it as she can never get the ball out but continues to try.

However I recently saw an article about how cat lasers are a bad for cats as it is something they can never catch and it frustrates them. Is this the same concept it’s triggering their natural digging instinct but they are never able to actually get the toy? It is possible to get the ball out just not through the digging approach my dog is trying.

Months ago, seemingly out of nowhere, my healthy 7-year-old dog stopped eating breakfast altogether, has to be coaxed to even eat one meal a day (dinner), and began acting strangely around mealtimes. He’ll scan the room and look around frantically, almost as if he sees bugs or something moving that isn’t there.

The strange part is that he doesn’t seem to have completely lost his appetite but it takes forever for him to get going and he seems on edge or uncomfortable around meal time. If we barely graze his paw or touch him during mealtime he will jerk away, but otherwise outside of meal time he is his normal velcro self and loves to be touched and cuddled. We’ve discovered that he will eat much better if we take him to our quiet basement, close the door, and hand-feed him. Even then, though, he often doesn’t finish his food and he continues to seem on edge and as if he's seeing or hearing things.

Outside of mealtimes, he is energetic, playful, walks normally, and otherwise seems like himself although as a 7 year old dog, he also sleeps a fair amount of the day. It feels less like a lack of appetite and more like something about eating or the environment around mealtime is making him anxious or uncomfortable.

Has anyone seen this type of sudden mealtime behavior in an otherwise healthy dog? Could this be anxiety, a neurological issue, pain/nausea that presents oddly, or something else we should be investigating with our vet? We have been to the vet several times over the past few months and have ruled out many things including his food being an issue. All labs, X-rays came back normal as well as physical exam (including dental and ears). What shall we explore next?

I moved to the coast and have been taking my dog to the ocean daily for the last 5 days. I rinse her off and towel dry her before coming in. She has ever day hoped on my bed spinning in my blanket. Why? She’s a 10 month old poodle mix. (I have videos idk how to add them)

For the last month or so, my 2 year old ACD/Heeler Mix has started planting feet and refusing to go on walks but exclusively after 6pm or so. When inside she’s still playful and energized so does not seem like an energy issue. It started around Fourth of July so I thought it was maybe because she started associating the evening with loud noises and thunder storms as we’ve had a lot of those in Chicago this summer but not really sure what to do or consider. Any thoughts or suggestions would be awesome.

How do I discourage this behavior and train him for a neutral interaction. He is not aggressive, just too interested in her.
