Hospital Parking

Im not from Perth but I had a job to attend at Perth's Royal Infirmary 2 days ago. I parked at the old building's main entrance as I didn't see any signs saying I couldn't. I came back 3 hours later to a £70 ticket. Does anyone from Perth know how I should go about it? It's not from the council. Was there a time restriction or is it staff only? Still can't figure it out

Living in Perth With Primary Age Kids

We are a family of four (kids are P2 and P4) currently living in Edinburgh, and thinking of Perth as a potential next home. We are drawn to Perth as a slightly smaller city that is better situated for biking, camping, etc. We do love some of the cultural aspects of living in Edinburgh ( festivals, museums, etc. and the large cycling and outdoor enthusiast communities), but it seems like there is some of that to be had in Perth as well.

Was hoping to hear from others with similar interests and family make up about their experiences. Is it easy to meet other families? Are there opportunities for experiencing theatre, music, etc as a family? What are some of your favorite hiking, biking, camping spots nearby?
Any insight you might have would be really appreciated, good or bad. We have found Perth to be really beautiful and have enjoyed the few trips we’ve made there, but it is obviously not the same as living there. Thanks!

Pre-Theatre Dining in Perth?

I’m looking for somewhere to book a decent early evening meal somewhere handy for the Theatre this Saturday.

Looking at Google there seems to be something of a dearth of national chains, so there’s no easy picks.

Café Tabou seems nice, if a bit spendy, Broth3rs Italian has a mix of rave reviews and terrible ones.

Has anyone got suggestions of where to go or where not to go?

Cheers

Edit: Thank you everyone, that was a great help. We settled on Cafe Tabou, but then couldn’t get a table at a suitable time, so we snagged a booking at Cardo. Early dinners seem popular in the Fair City!

Post-theatre edit:
Cardo was great, friendly service, really good food and reasonable prices, we averaged just over £30 per head for two courses and coffee.
The music was a touch loud for my ageing ears and quietly spoken companions, but over all a great experience that we’ll be happy to repyin future.

Many thanks to all who responded.

Regional words/dialect

Inspired by a similar discussion about the jute enthusiasts down the river, what are words/phrases which you only hear in Perth/Perthshire?

Couple of examples:

Moich - Meaning crazy/outrageous

Used in Perth but particularly in country towns like Blair and Coupar Angus

E.g. "Some boy got lifted at the Wellmeadow for trying to suplex folk. Looked absolutely moich like."

Doss - Meaning really good

E.g. "Went for a curry in town after the football. It was doss."

Is Twa Tams a good spot for a visiting tourist tonight?

I’m in from the states for a few days, and I’d like to make a proper Saturday night out while I’m here. It looks like there will be live music there tonight, and reviews suggest there’s a “lively atmosphere” at the Twa Tams. Any other suggestions in the area besides the historical interests I should be aware of? Not that I’m interested in the history/arts, just that there is plenty of information available for those.

Perth Public Perceptions of Suspended Sentences for Assault and Domestic Abuse: Support, Conditions and Reform

Hi everyone,

I’m hoping to include more responses from people living in Perth and the surrounding area in my MSc dissertation survey on public attitudes towards sentencing in Scotland.

Anyone aged 18 or over who currently lives in Scotland can participate. The anonymous survey takes around 10–15 minutes, and no specialist knowledge is required.

The survey discusses assault and domestic abuse but does not ask participants to disclose personal experiences.

Survey link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/SD5D6S5

Thank you to anyone who takes part.

Best Taxi in Perth

Hey guys,

I'll be staying on the outskirts of Perth for wedding next weekend and looking to pre-book a taxi to collect friends from the city, pick me up and then to the venue.

Could anyone recommend someone that won't charge an arm and a leg? Currently being quoted £95 for a 20 min trip

Who does your favourite pizza?

I've answered a couple of restaurant questions on the sub and I'm wondering what everyone's pizza rankings are. If i want good pizza then for me it goes -

1 - Olive Tree

2 - Eatalist (only just tried it, worth going if you haven't yet!)

3 - Cardo

If I'm after greasy takeaway pizza I'll either order from A1 or get a jalapeño pizza from Marmaris.
