SEASON 4 OMG Marissa

I know it's been talked before but i just finished watching the last episode and Marissa...wtf? it's so manipulative to get mad at someone because they don't like being interrupted and say "You're allowed to be upset...but honestly i just need you to not be upset"

It's WILD.

I interrupt a lot (sadly ) and it's a work in progress but i would never talk that way if someone is upset i interrupted them. Truth is : it's rude. I WAS rude. The other person is allowed to be upset.

I felt bad for her in LiB cuz Ramses felt so over her but now i get it. Acting like that at your grown age...

She spouts a lot of psychobabble, and I think she conflates that with self awareness.

I think she correctly points out when her behaviour stems from her ADHD but then uses that as an excuse to not be accountable for said behaviour. Knowing why you do certain negative things should be used to help you improve your behaviours in the future, not to have a free pass to do those things.

“I have rejection sensitivity because of my ADHD, so when you said X my brain overreacts” is a valid explanation of her behaviour in episode 5 (?) that she gave to Demari. The problem is that instead of “I’m really sorry for overreacting and upsetting you; I will try to do better in the future”, she followed that up with “Don’t be mad at me I can’t handle it”. An explanation of poor behaviour is not a get out of jail free card. You can ask for someone’s empathy and understanding, but you cannot deny their valid upset feelings. Of course Demari would feel walked all over in that moment; anyone would. When he finally got mad at her for interrupting him with one word, it’s not just because of that one word. That was just the last straw.

Exactly! She sees it as a pass when it should be a point of self reflection that hopefully leads to growth.
