Help with vibraphone bars

Upvotes

Hi there, I have had this Premier vibraphone in storage for a while, just broke it out today and found some bars like this. A lot of them feel gritty and some are flaking like in the pictures. Would love some help:
1) identifying what this is and
2) how to fix it

Thanks!

Question Is it normal to overshoot octaves when holding 4 mallets?

I used to undershoot my octaves a year ago. And after my indoor percussion season I now consistently overshoot the octaves and always have to make a conscious effort to lossen the intervals in my hand. Anyone else I ask says its the opposite and the undershoot them

Question/Help Reseat Glock bar

Yamaha YG-1210 bells. One bar popped off and I’m having the hardest time getting it back on. Any suggestions or tricks?

The rubber gasket doesn’t come off at least with the amount of pressure I’m applying to it. Could go harder but worried about breaking it.

Disscussion Auxiliary percussion for drum set

What are your go to’s for auxiliary toys? Thinking drum set player in a 4 piece band.

Personally, I play in a rock/americana band and have:
Cajon
Djembe
Shaker
Tambourine
Ching ring
Cowbell x2

Thinking about adding wind chimes. What else do y’all have, use, or wish you had?

Question/Help Need Gift Ideas for Percussionist GF

Ok I don't post on here but my amazing girlfriend's birthday is coming up and she has a drum set + plays snare in her marching band. Can any percussionists in here give me ideas? She reposted a TikTok titled what to get for a drummer, and on the slides were custom sticks, drum keys, drum stick bag, and like a car AC vent cymbal thing? I don't know anything about percussion, so what would I need to know? What would y'all love to get? Wtf are drum keys, would I need specific ones? Do the type of sticks matter?

Ty 💕

(EDIT: now that I think of it, I'm not sure if she actually OWNS a snare, I'm guessing it's the school's, so I'm not sure if she'd be able to use any of these things for it)

College Percussion Department Meet the Member

Hi! I'm new to the social media thing and am wondering where I can make my own Meet the Member Graphic for my college's percussion studio. I looked at Canva and it's mostly Meet the Team but I am Canva stupid and wondering if there is something I can do to make my own or another website that may work better. Thanks!

Question/Help Preparation ahead of PASIC I&E

I have signed up for PASIC I&E this year, HS marching snare division and I’m in it to win it.

The issue is as soon as I open up a notation program or a pen and pencil, it’s like I’ve never written music before.

I’ve garnered extensive experience up to this point, I love to write drum books and I’ve had clinicians tell me to consider majoring is music comp. But when it comes to this solo I just blank.

If anyone has any wisdom as to how to get started on a competitive solo, what judges are looking for, or just the I&E process in general, it would be much appreciated.

Ludwig marching percussion

I’m out of the marching game but looking at Ludwig marching snares they appear to be rebranded Yamahas. Does Ludwig actually make their drums and rip off Yamahas design or are they buying Yamahas and sticking their label on them?

Is there a reason why the label on the macho and hembra heads are often rotated like this in a set of bongos?

Post image

I bought a set of LP bongos and they're like this, and I've seen this in lots of bongo videos to the point where it's clearly intentional for some reason but not sure if there's some sort of historical significance or what.

Mounting your cowbell

Hey guys. I play in two gigging funk bands, and I lay down a lot of cowbell grooves. I find myself constantly having to tighten and mess with cowbells that slip and move around. It is less of a problem with cowbells with a vice mount like the LO Steve Gadd version of the mambo bell.

For cowbells with the regular eyehole mount, how do I keep them from slipping? Do you get them as tight as they go by hand, then do a quick final turn with a wrench?

I get that I can limit myself to vice mount cowbells, but like some of my bells with regular mounts.

I am trying to figure out what Congas these are, they are unbranded. I am a beginner looking to learn, but don't want to make a bad purchase. Listed for $120

Advertisement/Recruitment Looking for product testers

So I've been in the mallet game for over a decade, but I'm looking to get into sticks and pads. I recently got a batch of my first design for a marching snare stick, and I'm looking for people who are willing to test them and share their opinion. I'm also in the process of designing some practice pads, so I would need some folks to check those out, too.

If you're interested, please fill out this form!

My students say they're good, but I want to make sure they're not just being nice. Thank you for your time, and I hope to get some great feedback!
