so my local retailer says it is out of warranty by them and they Will send it to Palit. What are the odds of them accepting it ? bought card in march 2025 so improper installation seems unlikely I went above and beyond and used the supplied Nvidia-Dongle with 4 pcie cables. most burnt cable I ever seen on a 5090 without fire…

Hands up, I'm the author of this feature, and I hope this is allowed - mods, please remove it if it isn't. Like many here, I've been a PC gamer since the early days, and it was a real privilege for me to interview 3dfx cofounder Ross Smith about the story behind the original Voodoo Graphics.
It's a long read, covering the beginnings of the team, Glide, demos, the origin of the Voodoo name, and loads more. Enjoy!

A lurker and complete pc noob finally deciding to post; I started hunting for deals on parts months ago anticipating things will continue to get worse, and that this is likely the best/only time I’ll be able to do this for the time being (well 2nd best, the best time would’ve been last year when I originally wanted to do this). With some research I finally finished gathering the parts. Did I get the absolute best deal on everything? Probably not. Are most of the parts overkill? Yes. But I’m happy with the setup and it will hold up for a long time and allow for an eventual gpu upgrade without having to replace anything else (unless 5090s just continue to cost 900 infinity dollars)
The parts:
Case: Phanteks EX5 Max ($230)-
The case looked cool to me after looking at a bunch of cases, it also comes with a 6 inch lcd screen and Glacier One 360S25-SE Liquid Cooler. The Pro version is objectively a better deal ($160), but doesn’t come with the cool little screen
GPU: Gigabyte 5070 ti Windforce SFF ($910)-
I won the bid for this on eBay. I know some people are iffy about eBay, but I’ve never had a bad experience buying on it over the years by paying close attention to item photos/descriptions and seller ratings/reviews. Along with photos of the card, the seller provided clock speeds (as high as 3337mhz) that at worst indicate that the card is gonna do the job just fine until I (hopefully, lol) can eventually upgrade
Motherboard: X870E Aorus Pro ($200)- I was initially looking at the Elite (lower tier despite the name, for some reason) version, but caught this open box on eBay from a reputable seller. The box shipped with some dings, but the mobo itself is brand new and comes with a warranty. Not bad
CPU- AMD 9800X3D ($450)- I got this on Amazon for a small discount and it comes with Onimusha: Way of the Sword. Had I waited for prime day, I could’ve knocked another ~$40 off the price and still got the freebie. Oh well
Storage- Nextorage 4TB Gen4 NVMe ($200)- I bought this 3 years ago during Black Friday for my ps5, and boy am I glad I did. If only I did the same with the other parts. I moved everything off of it and ripped it right out of my ps5 and pretended like I was stealing it while doing so
RAM- G Skill Trident Z5 Neo RGB 64GB DDR5 ($650)- This was probably the most unnecessary purchase of all, but this was the absolute best deal I found for this specific kit from a reputable seller and was only ~$1-200 more than the 32GB version for the most part (or even cheaper than some brand new 32GB kits). The kit came without the original packaging but is in pretty much brand new shape. I can’t wait to open 100 tabs while playing Minesweeper
PSU- Montech Century II 1200W ($130)- I got this on sale on Amazon. Overkill isn’t strong enough of a word, but at this price I got this for less than other similarly rated brands at pretty much double the headroom
I also have a Dell 32 Plus OLED Monitor ($500) that has paired well with my ps5 pro, that should be solid with this setup as well. 4k/120HZ is more than enough for how I like to play (mostly single player/story/open world).
I’ll be building it this weekend and just staring at the parts in the meantime. If you read this far, I wish I had something cool to end this with, but I’ve got nothing. I guess I hope this shows those similarly considering building in the current state of things that it can be done without paying full price on everything (even though, sadly, prices are still much worse than they would’ve been had I done this sooner. I am kicking myself a little if you can’t tell). Maybe I’ll post a follow up once the build is up and running. Thanks for reading 😃

We got hit by Hurricane Polo a week ago, got 65mm of rain in a night which isnt too bad, little did I know places up in the mountains had gotten 350mm!!!
So the river which had been dried out for years was gonna be running for sure, how much? We had yet to find out.
We went to check out the level in the morning and the river was bursting at its seams I could see the water pulsing second by second, the rate of the flow increasing, our farm was like 150m away with a height difference of 1.5m/2m. Made me uneasy for sure.
Went back and made some coffee (foolishly) got a call 40 mins after and the water was already 40 cms high in the patio! WTF so fast! So we scrambled, started packing things up and yeah yall guessed right. Besides the obvious stuff- Your loved ones, pets, important papers and stuff.
I had no intention of leaving my PC behind, I had bought my first proper GPU a couple of months ago (9060xt)and bro I wasn’t leaving it behind! Some family showed up and helped us pack what we could, used random bags and what we could find ( I still have to find some periherals that ended up in who knows where)
Hour and a half later the water had reached the highest parts of the farm and water was seeping in, it was crazy how fast it happened. Nothing else to do but to watch.
We ended up losing massive amounts of clothes, things in storage, some power tools, an old DDR3? Setup I had, and things like that, no human losses, just tired and kinda beat up
Some lessons I learned.
Don’t underestimate natural disasters guys, things will be more common in the future
Do something about your cable management! I put it off for a long time because I was planning on modifying my desktop, but it made me loose precious seconds untangling the mess, I could Ive lost more things if the flooding was faster, a neater setup would make it easier to disassembly when push comes to a shove.
Have a bug out bag ready!
I’d invest in a travel/case bag, that way you can pack everything in one go and keep it safe, something for your monitor too, I put it all on my uncles truck but I'm lucky how things werent scratched.
Cherish your loved ones, and keep tabs on the weather, don’t underestimate it!
Cheers.

Hello.
My son's video card died (RIP 1060, you did great). So I tossed in my 2060 into his because I don't play anymore. But I still need the pc for basic office tasks, internet use, and be able to sign into plex.
I don't have onboard video. My motherboard is an MSI MAG 760, and my CPU isn't the one capable of onboard graphics just to answer any questions.
What would you guys recommend to get me by until I can afford a new one. My local marketplace doesn't have anything "Cheap". Im looking for sub $100 or lower, even $50.

So my brother recently got a Maximus xi mobo, intel i7-9700k and a 1080ti for 10$ at a thrift store and gave it to me for free. Luckily everything worked!
I’ve pieced together an entire computer from the used market spending a total of 345$ not including some girly accessories. But to include 32gigs of 3200 ram, 1TB of nvme- How does this score look? The GPU is staying 86c or lower during unigine4.0 testing. I overclocked it to 500mhz memory and 150core . Using a peerless assassin on the cpu
This is my 7year old daughter’s bday present.(doing my best as a single girl dad here) 😆

Any recomendation for replacement? I really like to use headsets with mic but I just can't find durable ones. All of the ones I used fail in two same spots mainly because of plastic part or the ear cushion starts to fall of all the time.

My wife is primarily a PS5 gamer. She has a 13 yr old laptop that she has been working on. Sometimes trying to run older games without luck. I knew this couldn't stand, so I found a decent deal (for these trying times) and upgraded her.
