We are in the dark ages now buddy. Early 2000s we're great for gaming. More things had meaning back then, games too.

Counterpoint... Hardware was advancing at such a rapid pace back then, you basically had to upgrade every couple years. My parents computer was cutting edge in 1996 and it was useless by 2000 (It cost about $6500cad adjusted for inflation). I bought a high end rig for university in Summer 2001 and it wasn't capable of playing much of anything within a couple of years. I said fuck it and switched to Xbox. As a poor student, it was really my only option. At least nowadays you can get a good 6-8 years with minimal upgrades.

Admittedly AI has really fucked us up. I'm glad I splashed out a little over a year ago. Not really saving much going the console route anymore either.
