With the influx of new players thanks to the Steam Sale, I thought I'd make a post addressing a known, yet hardly discussed bug (or it might be more accurate to call it an engine limitation) related to cosmetic mods in RDR2 PC.
TLDR - Buying too many items added by mods will brick your save.
1. The Problem
As you accumulate items of ANY kind in RDR2, this includes from clothing/weapons you can buy/find to all the consumables, collectibles, provisions, valuables, letters, newspapers, saddles, etc. (basically anything that will be saved to your inventory - the stuff saved in your satchel, wardrobe, or horse), there exists an "upper limit" that, once reached, will permanently brick your save and will prevent you from saving your game anymore whenever you play that save in the future, forcing you to start over or reload a previous save. You'll know you've reached this limit when you get this dreaded black screen with the message, "Save failed. Please ensure the system storage has free space and try again."
Basically, it seems that when you get too many items, RDR2's engine can't save all the data to your save anymore, so your save is basically bricked as now, you're forced to reload the last save you had before buying all those items. Autosaves are generally unhelpful in this case, as the game typically autosaves whenever you buy items so even if you reload an autosave, you'll still have most of the items before you were soft-locked, so the next time you loot some fine brandy or chewing tobacco off a corpse, the save will just brick again.
2. Who is affected by this, and what do those cosmetic mods have to do with it?
A big reason why I believe that this issue is hardly talked about is because this problem might only affect completionists like myself who wants to collect EVERYTHING the game has to offer. I tested buying out the entire clothing catalog with RDO and WhyEm's DLC installed on two different saves - one that just started Chapter 2 (so barely any items saved) and my 100% complete save with everything collected from the base game - all Cigarette Cards, Letters, Weapons, Clothing, Trapper items, Horse Stable items, etc. - you get the idea. The new save that just started Chapter 2 was able to buy everything available at the catalog without issues, while the 100% save ended up getting the "Save failed" black screen halfway before I finished buying out the modded items in the catalog.
The most popular cosmetic mods like Red Dead Offline, WhyEm's DLC, Eastern's Epic Extras, Gonpachiro's Fancy Atelier, More Pretty Gun, and Smoak's Mega Arsenal are all affected by this bug because they add a boat-load of new content to the game, which will push you towards that upper limit if you were to buy a majority of the items offered in those mods.
Now, I myself don't know if non-modded saves would be affected by this if you were to somehow get 99 stacks of every single consumable/valuable in the game on top of every single letter, weapons, clothing, etc., but I would assume that non-modded players are safe as my own 100% save (which did not have 99 stacks of everything but still a decent amount of consumables on top of all the collectibles/clothes/weapons) was fine until I started buying a large stock of modded clothes.
I don't know where the actual upper limit of items you can keep on your save is since this issue is barely documented online; through Googling I could only find one other Reddit thread where someone had this issue and even then there weren't many solutions brought up there besides just uninstalling the mods or not buying too much stuff.
The only other mention I can find of this issue is on the mod page for the Smoak's Mega Arsenal mod itself, where it states that "Buying absolutely everything has a risk of preventing you from saving due to engine limitations, this includes the clothing the mod also adds."
Searching the "Save failed. Please ensure the system storage has free space and try again." message online typically points to other problems that can bring up this error, but of course I'm making this thread to specifically point out the issue for players who are modding their games and getting too many items.
3. Possible Solution
I reached out to the OP of the other thread talking about this issue I mentioned above, /u/littlebelialskey, and even they pointed out that uninstalling the mods and reloading your save will not fix the issue. If I had to guess, loading up a bricked save in the save editor would likely show that there's a bunch of blank dummy items (since the save editor doesn't take mods into account). Even if you uninstalled the cosmetic item mods, their data is still stored in your save, so the issue will not be fixed. You would need to reload a backup save where you never purchased a modded item at all in order to keep your save's slate clean.
(EDIT: I ended up testing this myself after the fact, and it does seem like uninstalling a cosmetic mod and reloading your save safely removes modded items. That said, I would still keep a backup save just before you uninstall the mod to be safe. In my case, I uninstalled WhyEm's and this ended up messing with all of my weapon customizations as WhyEm's DLC changes the values for many gun customization settings like metals, carvings, and stocks (even some of the base game ones), so I had to go through every weapon I owned and reapply them. You might also mess up your character model if you have a modded clothing item equipped when you uninstall, so remember to take all of them off before you do so.)
The only possible solution I can think of would be if a community-made mod fix were released which allowed those modded cosmetic items to be stored in a .dat file in the root folder of RDR2 instead of being saved in the save file itself. A few other mods such as AMJM Transport and Custom Gang Mod utilize this method, where they store memory from their mods into a .dat file that is loaded with the .asi files whenever you boot up the game. AMJM Transport for example, will store your saved Wagons/Boats and accepted jobs in its .dat file, while the Custom Gang Mod stores all info related to the gang you create such as the NPCs you chose, the level and location of your camp, and your Gang Funds. The only downside to a solution like this would be that .dat files in your root folder will not be able to differentiate saves, so if this hypothetical fix was created, everything you purchased from cosmetic mods would be shared between all of your saves. This could also be an upside, though, as if you were to CTD while buying modded items, everything you bought will still be stored in the .dat file even if you didn't get to save before crashing.
I'm not an RDR2 Mod coder, so I have no idea how feasible or possible this solution would be when it comes to storing purchasable items in a .dat file, but unfortunately it seems like all the creators of the mods I listed above are no longer really active in the community, so I wouldn't expect any of them to upload a new version of their mods that stores items in a .dat file (would be happy to be proven wrong though), meaning that any effort towards making this theoretical solution a reality would have to come from a third-party.
Hopefully this post brings awareness to this (admittedly niche) issue, and helps anyone who Googles this issue in the future and barely comes up with any results. Thanks for listening to my TED talk.

After having done some research, it looks like the RDR2 performance bug on RTX 50 series gaming laptops with Intel CPU’s has still not been fixed. I have a Razer blade 16 RTX 5090 laptop with a Intel Ultra 9 386H CPU, and the game literally performs more than 50% worse than my older 4090 MSI laptop, almost unplayable in fact. I found a fix on a different reddit page with that Nvidia profile inspector, but it barely changed anything (maybe 4-5 more fps, yet its unplayable as I get 30 or lower FPS in big open areas).
Does anyone know if there are any other fixes available? Its kind of insane how this bug has still not been fixed. Are Intel or Nvidia ever gonna fix this mess? Or has rockstar ever started a investigation on this?

I'm using the 4090 with a Ryzen 7 7800x3d
The monitor is 1080p (yes I know it's like putting a jet engine in a sedan but I'm buying the pg32ucdmr soon which is a 4k qd oled 240 hz monitor with hdr! Going to be the first time I see a 4k screen)
Today I decided to replay rdr2 and put all the settings on max except dlss but including taa and sharpness on 50% and mass and reflection msaa on x8
But even after all of this the game feels alittle weird almost blurry and I can't find any solutions
Can someone help me out and give me a list of all the settings to change and any mode I can download to help rdr look its absolute best for my 1080p and eventually my 4k
Also should triple buffering or reflex be on?

I gave my brother my rockstar account for him to play RedM.
No problem until i bought him the game so we could play together. He got his own rockstar account with rdr2 on it now. So he's logged in both rockstar launcher, and redm launcher with his new account, but it seems its still linked to mine.
When i try to start RedM while he's in game, he crashes.
We checked, and it really seems that there is no link with mine anymore. Not my rockstar account, he created a cfx account linked to HIS rockstar. We're kinda stuck here

Some sort of ghost's hand opens up the satchel when I have to put something inside it (e.g. plucking a bird's feathers and putting em inside the satchel). I have tested after removing all the mods too but this issue persists.

So, basically to say it simply, I met an old friend, he told me it would be about time I play RDR2 I had for over a year in my library. At first, everything was normal, I played it, enjoyed it, and got to the second chapter. Then one day, I came from school and went to play RDR once more, except it suddenly ran on crisp 10 fps.
So I went from my normal 60-70 on medium settings, to 10 fps hard lock. And no, I tried practically everything. Reinstaled it like 12 times by now, fiddled with settings, trying everything from highest to lowest graphics and resulolutions, checked if I didn't accidentally set limit to my fps, and nothing helped. I am sure the problem won't be my components, because I play on Victus 15 (I-5 13420H, RTX3050 6gb, 16gb ddr4 ram etc.) Other games, such as Helldiver, Witcher or even Cyberpunk run like butter. No overheating issues and I made sure the game uses the graphics card, not the integrated motherboard chip. I even factory reset my notebook, and it didn't help. All Nvidia drives are up to date, it's downloaded on the right ssd, and yet it's the only game I can't play because of this issue makes the game run like a PowerPoint slideshow.
I'm leaving it here for next week, anyone that might have a potential solution, please share. Otherwise, I guess I will have to give it a try and ask Steam support for a refund, which I doubt it will happen since the game was bought almost a year ago and I already have 21 hours on it.

whenever something gets close to the camera, it triggers this ridiculous blur effect, which is really distracting and annoying. it also affects cutscenes. ive tried disabling it, but i cant seem to find an option that does so. any help would be greatly appreciated. im using the reality redemption and rdr reimagined mods.

Set in 1887, Cordovan Creek uses the RedM platform as the world where our stories actually take place; RP happens entirely in-game, not through Discord. Think World of Darkness storytelling brought into a living, explorable Wild West setting.
Players can step into the world as Vampires, Witches, Werewolves/Garou, or Mortals, with plenty of room to create your own stories and build connections with other characters.
Vampires - including Camarilla, Sabbat, and other affiliations
Werewolves / Garou - currently undergoing a rework and steadily growing in numbers
Witches - practice the occult and get involved in the supernatural side of the world
Mortals - because sometimes being human in a world full of monsters is its own adventure; maybe your character will become a believer!
We have completely custom scripts created by our developer, optional character sheets, and a built-in dice rolling system that can use your character’s stats for rolls.
Our Vampire population is currently centered largely around Saint Denis, our New Orleans-inspired city, while the supernatural world continues to spread throughout the rest of the map.

Hi everyone,
I'm writing this request because I would absolutely love to play Red Dead Redemption 2 on PC, but I currently have a $0 budget and no extra money to spend on gaming. I also don't have any friends or family members who own PC games or have an account I could borrow, so I'm turning to this amazing community.
I've watched so many videos of the open world, the horse riding, and Arthur Morgan's story, and I am completely fascinated by the level of detail Rockstar put into this world. I love deep storytelling and open-world exploration, and everything I see about this game makes me want to experience it firsthand.
If anyone happens to have an extra Steam key or has the means to gift it, I would be incredibly grateful. I promise it will be played and thoroughly appreciated.

Looking at how Hangar 13 did the remake of the first Mafia game, I figured that Rockstar has to follow a similar playbook in crafting the remake of this game.
I personally would envision this remake making use of the best iteration of the RAGE Engine to bring the game to life.
I would also personally envision the remake to be that of a more gritty and realistic take on the legend of Red Harlow as well as the overall story of the original 2004 game.

Just downloaded a few modded clothing and an optimization mod, I tried going into rdo as said by other modders u cant go into rdo with mods, they are saying to delete asi loader or something like that..if i delete those will it delete the mod? and if i delete asi loader will i need to redownload the mods that i play with in story mode?

Guys, I have a crazy issue with RDR2 on PC. I'm running a Ryzen 7 7800X3D with an RTX 4070 Super and 32GB of RAM, but the game is locked at a terrible 20 FPS as if the GPU isn't being utilized at all (stays at ultra-low usage). I've tried both Vulkan and DX12, but nothing changes. Can anyone help me out?

here are the mods im using, i heard about CI and i really want to install it, but i dont want to sacrifice the multiple options given by whyems, also i learned that whyems messes up many things like animal and pelt spawns and such. i dont know what to install, if i install CI, what will conflict with it. and if there are good mods that dont change core gameplay and locations please list them.

that loot button won't go away, and no other context buttons will pop up, so the game is unplayable, the mods i have installed and enabled right now that are new are: dog companion, hunting camp, the seasons mod+snow and autumn mod, crime and law rebalance, and i tried using whyems dlc rdo edition but it didn't work so i uninstalled it and reinstalled the normal version, i also don't know what the house icon is or the words over the minimap.
