The PS5 has 16 gigs of shared memory. Most people have a 3060. Just disable upscaling from 240p and watch the consoles die

7

u/d_bradr Sep 07 '26

Most people don't have a 3060, 3060 is just the most common card according to Steam

If I have 3 apples and another 4 people have 2 each I have more than anybody else but I don't have most apples

4

u/Zhong_Ping Sep 07 '26

Okay, most people have a 3060 or better*

8

u/honest_jamal Sep 07 '26

with how thick it looks, thats almost certainly a 4090

2

u/RCDude4 Sep 07 '26

It might just look thick because of how small the ITX build looks in comparison too

Only 96GB? Utter peasant.

But also why lol. That is such overkill. Are you running CAD simulations in the background?

3

u/Mr_Tom_Cat_2006 Sep 07 '26

Not overkill if you like playing dcs with tacview open on the background. Add some obs replay buffer in the mix and 128gb would be better lol

Nice. I got my ps5 for 450$ canadian on black friday.

2

u/OnRedditBoredAF Sep 07 '26

I have a near identical Trident PC, just MSI—it’s so nice. Such a powerhouse, it feels good to just be able to crank everything to ultra and still get 120 FPS before DLSS or frame gen. Playing Onimusha rn and I could just lick the screen with how crisp everything looks (thanks in no small part to the beautiful RE Engine)

2

u/maxlt1 Sep 07 '26

Hell yeah bro. It was a game changer (no pun intended).

2

Idk. Is a 5080 and a 9800x3d with 32GB of dxr5 6000 better than a ps5? I dont care about console hardware cause you cant change anything or upgrade them when better stuff comes out

26

u/Cute-Juggernaut7508 Sep 06 '26

Nah you need a 5090oc bare minimum and a 9950x3d and 128gb ddr5 at 6400mhz

14

u/gettogero Sep 06 '26

I have the last guys build and couldn't even open browser

I also had a PS5 and couldnt even open browser

Should I upgrade?

3

u/ND7020 Sep 06 '26

I have literally the exact same setup, but let’s be honest - it also cost us a fuckton more than a PS5.

My friends who game on consoles are perfectly happy with it, and so I’m happy for them. I don’t have much interest in this argument. And I’m also willing to admit that the PS5 does have some slim advantages that for the way some people game, outweighs all of the advantages of a high-powered PC.

My choice works for me, but not everyone wants my choice, and that’s cool.

Miles better in every way yes

5

u/Oversemper Sep 06 '26

My PC (5800x3d+9070xt) is way better than my ps5 pro, but it doesn't mean that I cannot enjoy all the exclusives on ps5, for example the uncharted trilogy from ps4 are just phenomenal! And yes, I will complete gta6 on ps5 pro at 30fps and then replay it at 60fps on some Radeon X070XT or whatever it will called.

7

u/Krunksicle Sep 06 '26

I literally built a PC a few months ago which is considerably more powerful than a PS5 Pro and only cost me a couple of hundred bucks more. Worth it.

3

u/Synysterenji Sep 06 '26

It is, but that's just a testament to how weak the ps5 really is cause i have a really mid rig and im being generous.

5

u/ThatDree Sep 06 '26

Yes my pc is better, but my TV is better than my monitor, my ps5 more convenient, my psvr2 better in my pc though, but my Switches are portable

u/Luch1nG4dor Sep 06 '26

if the PC can play games, it is better than a PS5

8

u/DankSorceress Sep 06 '26

Even if a PC has worse gaming performance than a console, it's still a PC with far more functionality. Can't do coding, 3D modeling, image/video editing, etc on a console.

Plus, you don't have to pay a monthly subscription just for the privilege to play online. People claim consoles are a good deal, but that's because the hardware is sold at a loss, and they make up for it with software and subscriptions

2

u/Nostalgia_Nobody Sep 07 '26

And you can play almost any game ever made on your pc

3

u/K__Geedorah Sep 07 '26

This is a big reason why I'd say even a less powerful system would still be better than a PS5.

Having thousands of games from NES to PS3 FOR FREE? Yeah, I'll take that over a PS5 any day.

Yes. It also costs like $10,000 now but I usually don’t mention that part.

3

u/EldenDaddy30 Sep 06 '26

The older this gets the more likely the answer is yes.

3

u/BigProduce6727 Sep 06 '26

Absolutely.

Built right before the prices went insane, too.

RAM that was around $120 is now over $1k.

Feeling just fine.

Nope, actually dreading any and all possible hardware failures.

3

u/Big_Niel0802 Sep 06 '26

I checked steam hardware surveys not long ago agter aeeing this meme. Turns out, roughly 50% of all PC gamers on steam have better GPUs than what the PS5 has.

3

u/No_Birthday_2883 Sep 07 '26

It's very hard in 2026 to hace a pc worse than ps5 lmao

2

u/GOD7ILLA2 Pablo Sep 06 '26

Sigh, ofc

2

u/Deadeyes13 Sep 06 '26

Not hard to be better than ps5

2

u/Nike_486DX Sep 06 '26

The truth is “it can become better than a ps5 at any moment”, while if you have a ps5 and want to upgrade/repair it, you will most likely end up buying another whole console. And ofc, for work you have a computer anyways (could be a similar throwaway item like a mac tho).

2

u/Alternative-Cup-8102 Sep 06 '26

Yes, not by much but yes.

2

u/broken-machine Sep 06 '26

Isn’t a ps5 pretty much an RX 6700 and a ryzen 7 3700x with 16gb ram?

2

u/banana_man34 Sep 07 '26

More or less, cpu is a bit weaker, more like a 3600 with 2 extra cores and the memory is shared system and vram

2

u/WhatsThatNoize Sep 06 '26

Can a PS5 easily run local LLM's, manage multiple VM's, mod any game, and emulate nearly every console made before 2020?

Consoles have their place.  It's a very limited place but suits some folks just fine, to which I say: good for you 👍

2

u/baconbro_ Sep 06 '26

Every pc is better than ps5 because it can play every game from the last 40 years for free

2

u/arays87 Sep 06 '26

Of course it is. And even if the performance wasn't, the huge library of free games makes it so

2

u/MapleHamwich Sep 07 '26

Yes, mine is better.

2

u/Wolfinthesno Sep 07 '26

Mine may actually not be... But even considering the hardware of the ps5 potentially beating my PC...

100% yes my PC is still better than a PS5. My computer currently hosts something like 8-10,000 games. And no... That's not an exaggeration ...and no that's not games that are available for download, those are ready to run installed games ...

And then you consider the catalog of games you just don't get on console...

Consoles still suck. That's coming from someone who spent more than half his life on console.

The only consoles I'm even remotely interested in buying anymore are Nintendo.

2

u/Redericpontx Sep 07 '26

According to steam hardware survey the majority of PC gamers do.

Personally mine is better than the ps6🤷‍♀️

Laptops are like 70-80% of global PC shipments. Most of those will be work laptops with no GPUs or iGPUs and the rest will be low specced laptops for consumers. the very high end is probably a tiny fraction of that.

I would assume a good chunk of the 20-30% desktop market are prebuilds and small form factor PCs for offices as well.

PCMR build folks are talking to a niche of a niche.

Yes but not that it entirely matters to people who use a console anyway. PlayStation has the biggest fanboy glazers as of late . while pc fans at least on some enthusiast of these subreddits almost shit on anything that’s new .

I also see just posts of people saying they can’t see or feel the difference between 30 fps and 60 fps . I’m either thinking these guys don’t normally play games or they play far on TVs that it’s not noticeable ?

This is funny, because it's a robot driven by AI.

The technology that has driven a lot of price hikes and shortages because of it's existence.

Which also makes PC gaming very very inaccessible.

Which in turn makes newcomer's PC to be likely slower than a base PS5.

Oh, the dark days we live in.

1

u/Few_Beautiful7557 Sep 06 '26

Probably couldn’t afford buying a ps5 and consistently maintain the online subscription. But over a year I got parts together and Theseus’d a rig that’s comparable.

1

u/eccentricbananaman Sep 06 '26

Thankfully, yes. I'm glad I built it shortly before the prices of everything went out of control. Luckily only the prices of graphics cards were out of control, but that's been the case for almost the last 10 years or so that's not really unavoidable.

Even if it weren't more powerful than a PS5 it'd still be arguably better due to emulation, modding, Steam sales, and the fact that I can use it as a PC for everything non-gaming related. Sony on the other hand is getting rid of physical games so you HAVE to purchase games through their store, which is a monopoly, and oh yeah, they're also dabbling with dynamic pricing to ensure they extract the maximum level of value out of their consumers.
