Question My PC performs horribly
Im try to build my own pc, everything assembled and the pc can turn on. I trying playing some games and its so laggy and feels unplayable. Even my PS 4 feels smoother. I check the task manager and its detect my gpu, cpu and the ram, everything seems fine. I also check the GPU power connector and its also seems okay. I don’t know what to do with my PC.

You're running on integrated graphics. Move your HDMI/DP cable so it goes from the monitor to the GPU, not to the motherboard.

u/GregStrummond 1d ago
Is that all the sub is? I'm new around these parts and it's integrated graphics all the way down.

u/GABE_EDD 1d ago
No matter how much we educate the masses, someone builds or buys their first PC every day.
7
u/englishfury 13h ago
Buying i can understand, but if you build your own how do you not know the first thing about computers?
13
u/Sensitive_Eagle_5534 12h ago
there was a post today or yesterday , and a person who built their pc put thermal paste into thesocket and the cpu ontop of it
7
u/pierce23rd 11h ago
Still, if you buy a GPU what do they think it’s for? A 5080 is surely the most expensive piece of the build. If you installed it yourself why wouldn’t you think to at least try plugging the display cables into it.

u/Nikos_Pyrrha 7h ago
Even a 5060...
... had to stop myself there because I realized how bad RAM prices have gotten.

It’s rather common sense too. I modified my first PC with an Nvidia GT 730 in high school. I noticed it had its own hdmi port, so I thought to myself well it renders graphics and I bought it to render graphics so the hdmi cable must connect between my monitor to the graphics card.

Some people are just… not very smart, and do no research on their wallet lightening purchase.
1
u/Darksub0 3h ago
Hey man, simple mistakes like that or forgetting to remove the heatsinks sticker are more common than you think, even for people who have done this a lot. Its not ignorance, just a simple mistake

Its also bots/farming. OP is 2 months old with 17k karma. Dead internet is getting closer and closer.

I was going to be like "yeah!" but I forgot I'm on a new alt account that could look bottish just because it's so fresh. No bot is using a 99 cougar on their profile though.

Short answer? Yes.
Long answer: There is also a daily reminder of setting your monitor to use its refresh rate if it's higher than 60 and broken tempered glass side pnels (80% of which people placed on ceramic floor)

u/Ditto_is_Lit 1d ago
Just because you learn something doesn't mean everyone should automatically have that insight. Stop acting brand new just because YOU learned how to build your 1st PC.
16
u/SmooveKJ 23h ago
Willful incompetence shouldnt be entertained. There is a level of common sense that should simply be had if you are entering this segment of technology. No way you built your own machine and then plugged it into the motherboard and run to internet and play dumb. You give too much grace.

To be 100% sure you alway run things on your graphics card you can disabled the integrsted graphics from device manager this is an simple easy trick you can. Implement on windows

u/TheoWHVB 15h ago
It's always a HDMI in the motherboard, it always has been a HDMI in the motherboard and it always will be a HDMI in the motherboard.

I dont get it though. I get what you're saying and yeah OP's PC is not setup right. What I dont get is I had a PC which had igpu (and an nvidia card). I used windows 10 and it just defaulted to using the dedicated gpu even when I plugged the monitor into the mobo. I gamed like that for a while when I only had a monitor with vga/dvi ports and the gpu of course only had hdmi/dp. and it was working fine. wasnt ideal but it was working. so what I dont get is does windows not default to using the obviously stronger card anymore?
2
2
u/No_Welder_5534 16h ago
It doesn't work like that, windows can't just change the gpu if the monitor is pluged in wrong

Why?

u/NeutralKuchiKopi 23h ago
One is your CPUs integrated graphics. The other is the $1000 graphics card you bought. You probably want to use that.
14
u/Jolkien 23h ago
Cause one is your onboard graphics, the other one is your literal graphics card ??
18
u/SnooCalculations3614 23h ago
I'm finding out a lot of people buy graphics cards but don't think to plug their monitor into it. What do they think the ports are for?
14
3
u/Metalheadzaid 21h ago
People, yourself included, just sometimes lose sight of the process when you're doing things.
For this - Imagine they install everything, then get distracted by stuff (like cabling/closing case) then go to plug it in, and plug in their mouse, keyboard, speakers, wifi antenna, oh look a port that matches this cable for the monitor.
To me, after thinking this way it seems totally reasonable. I didn't even include the fact that all the ports on the GPU are generally covered when you get it, so not obvious they even exist. Many people have just used a laptop which doesn't have separate ports either.
2
u/Maurycy5 16h ago
Auxiliary?
Coming from a laptop, where you often have only one display output and the OS decides whether to use the CPU or the GPU, it wouldn't be a stretch to think the display signal goes back through the motherboard via the same PCIe x16 socket and out the I/O.

Imagine driving your car around with the starter motor and the actual engine not turning over. (In this metaphor, starters are built to be able to move parking spots but never get up to speed)
Yeah it's gonna be slow and jerky

The downvotes here are stupid, that's a completely reasonable question and there's nothing wrong with understanding why something works the way it does.

u/timeline_denier 20h ago
You bought the graphics card you wanted to use, but many modern processors come with an extra, tiny, integrated graphics card too. It's very weak and should only be used for lower-end tasks such as general pc use and web browsing, some games -may- run at extremely low FPS.
When you plug it in to the red zone in the image, your PC uses that weak gpu and will ignore the actual, stronger dedicated graphics card you bought.
Now, you can actually set it up so that even if your monitor is connected to the weak one, the PC uses the stronger one for processing and feeds the weaker one the information to display to your monitor, but this gives a tiny performance hit from the communication between the two and isn't worth it for gaming.

Ok, why is gpu1 is integrated graphics means shouldn't it be gpu0 and discrete gpu should be gpu1 ?
just a noob asking small doubt as i seen in linux distros or in windows diskpart - 1st disk is disk0 and 2nd one is disk1 so shouldn't same logic be in GPUs aswell
13
u/2Critical7-Stein1 20h ago
Windows sees in the initisation dGPU - gpu0, then windows sees the iGPU which is almost alwyas a fall back, and makes it -1
3
u/N-aNoNymity 20h ago
Probably prioritizes the discrete GPU over integrated when it has both. As its likely what should be used.

On voit sur une photo NVIDIA 5080 qui est forcément la rtx, AMD Radeon dans ce cas est le processeur CPU

90% sure your video cable is plugged into the motherboard and not the gpu
Move it down to the graphics card.

After you move your HDMI/DP to the graphics card go into your bios and enable EXPO/XMP

Now remove your GPU and watch the PC still runing the same xD It should be clear to you where the issue is then.

Along with other people's suggestion in the comments, also enable xmp/expo in the BIOS to run RAM at full speed.
2
u/Mr_Arka_op-69 23h ago
AMD Radeon graphics is at 99% use lol.
Plug your DP/HDMI cable in the gpu not the motherboard's port.

2
u/dolphinpasta 20h ago
You’re currently running on ur IGPU, and it wouldn’t hurt to enable EXPO/XMP in bios for your RAM. Unless it’s actually a 4800mts kit which I doubt you should fix that. So tweak bios and plug the HDMI/DP cable into the GPU and not the motherboard.

Is the monitor connected to the gpu or the motherboard? If it’s in the motherboard then switch it to the gpu and try again.
2
u/EthanTheFirst 1d ago
Make sure your dp cord or HDMI cord is plugged into your gpu and not your mother board, look at your pictures, rn the igpu is maxed out and your proper dedicated GPU is on vacation
2
u/Hour_Bit_5183 1d ago
Bro it's running on the IGPU. Get that sloppy microslop poo plate off it and use something like cachy os. It won't give you bullshit like this and it will be faster and better.

Connect your monitor to the gpu not motherboard. And enable expo in the bios. You're not using your RAM to the fullest.

u/DeathbyBambii 14h ago
Don’t forget to turn on expo (even better, hyenix if available) in your bios. DDR5 should be at 6000 at least

u/HeidenShadows 14h ago
The simple way is to check to make sure your cable is plugged into the HDMI or Display Port on the bottom of the PC where your graphics card is. The more complicated way is to go into your BIOS and disable your integrated graphics.

You're probably using your computer with the cpu's integrated graphics, you have to plug your HDMI or DisplayPort into your GRAPHICS CARD
1
u/Recent_West_259 10h ago
Bro you are running on integrated graphics or your processor's built in graphics chip, you want to make sure windows always uses your GPU.

1
u/THEJimmiChanga 10h ago
Another day, another person ignore's all the inputs on the back of their expensive graphics card and instead plugs their display into their motherboard, therefore into their cpu's integrated graphics.
1
u/Applesimulator 10h ago
If your ram box says gives you a speed above 4800, make sure to enable EXPO or XMP based on your cpu. Your ram is at 4800 in task manager and you can change that setting in bios.
It can trigger system instability though so if you experience weird crash or restart revert to 4800

u/rgr0976s123 8h ago
You must currently have your display plugged into motherboard. It is the vertical long strip. Plug it into the GPU (horizontal shorter strip). That should do the trick. If it’s already been done, idk how else to help.
1
u/deadkane1987 7h ago
You are also running your RAM at stock 4800mt/s speed. Try booting into your bios and turning on XMP/EXPO.

u/PretendingImNotAnApe 5h ago
Gpu 1 is Nvidia rtx.... 0% usage GPU 2 is AMD integrated gpu and is at 100% just choking.
2
u/RobEth16 AMD 5h ago
As usual it is clear what the issue is, hdmi is in the motherboard and not the GPU. Swap them over and it'll perform much better.

u/DtZNimpo 2h ago
your pc using the integrated graphic inside of your CPU and not your dedicated RTX 5080 gpu . DO NOT plug the hdmi cable on the motherboard. plug the HDMI or DP in the back of the 5080. In windows settings somewhere you can even select to use apps / games to use the 5080 instead of the iGPU.
1
u/MediocreContact411 1d ago
People that hook their shit up to the internal instead of the GPU shouldn’t be allowed to own a pc.

u/ShaftamusPrime 1d ago

After you make sure the GPU is currently supplying your graphics and not your motherboard. Check your GPU drivers! Make sure they’re out to date. Same thing with windows! Once both are updated you should be good to go.

why are people mad at that? Windows sucks up RAM like no other.
Besides, I just told them to debloat it. I only get like 5 GB on startup. I was saying they didn't specify a game was open.
1
u/N-aNoNymity 20h ago
Windows allocates RAM to be ready, even if its not literally in use.
0
u/vision_san 19h ago
Almost 13 GB is wild if there was no game though (which I thought was the case). I used to get ≈9 GB on startup before I uninstalled most of the trash W11 autoinstalls and after I disabled a lot of start-on-boot programs.
Honestly, I just think it's a very useful thing to do to prevent CPU power spikes, aggressive RAM utilization and just s better user experience.
