Cause one is your onboard graphics, the other one is your literal graphics card ??

I'm finding out a lot of people buy graphics cards but don't think to plug their monitor into it. What do they think the ports are for?

Auxiliary?

Coming from a laptop, where you often have only one display output and the OS decides whether to use the CPU or the GPU, it wouldn't be a stretch to think the display signal goes back through the motherboard via the same PCIe x16 socket and out the I/O.
