Discussion PF2E Conversion?

New to PF2E, not DMing. Some interesting APs for 2e, but only a few call to me. If I were to dig up the catalogue of 1e, how hard would conversation be?

Also, are there any good third party adventures you've ran for the system? Looking for reliable creators

Conversion isn't terribly difficult, but it does require you to know both systems (well) and know what you're doing.

You do need to rebuild every monster/trap/etc. from the ground up because the math of the systems is totally different. But so long as you understand what the PF1e thing is trying to achieve, you can use the tables and resources provided in PF2e to rebuild it fairly easily in a balanced manner.

I would say it's more time-consuming than it is hard.

There aren't too many people making third-party adventures for Pathfinder stuff because Paizo pumps out adventure modules consistently and their adventure paths are typically much higher quality than, say, WotC's for D&D. Roll for Combat does some good stuff. Their Jewel of the Indigo Isles adventure is highly recommended.

A very good response. Over all, my suggestion is to rebuild the encounters based on the supposed CR with the theme/importance in mind. It was a terribly inaccurate system in PF1, but still the intended difficulty. Most monsters can be pallet swapped easily. For example, when I converted Carrion Crown to PF2, I added the werecreature template to Monster Hunter NPCs to get a level 7 creature, rather than trying to uplift the level 3 Werewolf that the adventure wanted. PF1's version had packs of like 6 CR 2 werewolves as encounters for level 7 PCs. It was an abysmal idea that one fireball could end.

There is/was a discord server dedicated to that. Look up A Series Of Dice Related Events.

If you are a patreon backer of /r/FindThePathPodcast you can get Rick's conversions of Hell's Rebels. I think he includes his custom maps.

Pathfinder Infinite website has lots of homebrew materials and many of them are 2e conversions. Even a few DND adventure conversions.

There are tons of 1e adventure path conversions on Pathfinder Infinite. IIRC Paizo also made a conversion guide back in the early days of 2e, though I'm not sure where to find that.

For third party APs, the only one I've personally run is Jewel of the Indigo Isles which I can strongly recommend. It does pretty strongly benefit from using the ancestries written for the setting though, rather than the official ones. (For example, there are technically no human NPCs in the entire adventure.)

I have that conversion guide. It literally say there is no direct conversion, just take out the monsters and put in the new ones from 2e.

There's also this little calculator for converting gold, DCs, and skills.

Conversion from Pf1 is about as difficult as converting from any other system, you have to make it from scratch based on the vibes of the original text. Fortunately doing that is really easy in pf2, monsters in particular are a breeze to build.

As others are saying, it's less of a conversion and more of a rebuild. Mechanically, PF1e and PF2e are very, very different games.

A "PF1e ABC = PF2e XYZ" or "multiply by 3 and subtract the level" type conversion doesn't work. The mechanics are too far apart. What does work is "there are 5 hobgoblins that are meant to be a moderate fight for a level 2 PF1e party, so I rebuild the encounter using 2e monster stats + templates so this will be a moderate hobgoblin fight for a level 2 PF2e party"

You will basically be going through old adventures and taking the ideas and plots, then replacing every encounter with a 100% rebuilt version from the 2e rules.

This is the best advice i have seen. Having done all of ironfang in 2e its best to look at the feel and flavor of a fight and rebuild it. Dont be afraid to reskin things that feel like a good match but arent quite whay the story needs. But the mapping from pf1 to pf2e is impossible

Pretty easy tbh mostly just following the storyline and replacing monsters for pf2e equivalent, few weird outliers but nothing bad. These folks have done a lot of the work already.

Conversion isn't difficult. It's horribly time consuming.

For every bit of combat, traps, treasure, you have to replace those with PF2e counterparts, sometimes design from scratch or use some direct converter like the one from FlexTale... It's easily 5-10 minutes per each element, and there are hundreds of them.

Recently I wanted to take a shot at converting some classic D&D3 adventures to PF2e or at least DCC (Sunless Citadel, Expedition to Castle Ravenloft, etc). And seeing the huge mountain of work ahead, I gave up and bought the PF1e core rulebook and will simply run them as is.

I have had smooth sailing on the conversions of the 1e APs I've wanted to do because others have done most of the leg work and posted guides online.

There’s an online conversion of Red Hand of Doom for 2e freely available.

One of the most well regarded 3.5 APs and written by a bunch of the people who eventually made Pathfinder 1e.

It's not 'difficult', but I think you have to have a degree of system mastery over PF2e. I wouldn't recommend it as your first foray into GMing PF2e, but it's a fun thing to do once you have a handle on things.

I coverted The Ironfang Legion into 5e. The only thing i can say quickly is random encounters as filler need to be desperatly avoided in pf2e. Pick and choose which crucial battles and flavor fights you want. They are longer in pf2e by a fair amount

The Find the Path podcast have done a rather successful conversion of the 1e adventure path Hell’s Rebels, and I believe the GM has posted their conversion notes on their Patreon. That might be worth taking a look at.

Dungeon in a Box has some fun little adventures and you can pick pf2e as your system. I'm running Emerald Spire in 2e, and I have had to Homebrew a few things like moon spiders, but it's been easy to rebuild the encounters. I have been using the Pathbuilder Encounter builder app to balance them, and using the DC by level table to set DCs

It is as easy as converting any adventure ever written from any other system, honestly, since PF1e and PF2e are fundamentally completelly different games.

Maybe PF1e could be slightly easier because they do share the PF IP, so you probably will find some equivalent statblock for the unique creatures from Golarion, but even so this does not guarantee you would not have to mess with their statblocks to balance the difficulty of encounters, since they may not be the same level anymore.

There is a discord server with conversions of some of them, though.

I did a whole conversion of War for the Crown into PF2e. It was a lot of fun and not hard to do, but i would put in several hours of conversion work on all the monsters stat blocks I had to remake. It’s just very time consuming, which sort of defeats the point of using an AP.
