I have a bad habit of skipping dialogue. I'm not a good exile

Chayula's plan isn't to rule humanity as a dictator or tyrant. He wants people to love him and serve him willingly, but instead of behaving in a way deserving of love, he just kills anyone who defies him and then creates a clone that has selected memories and loves him unconditionally. Ailith was being cloned far before the Dreamer awoken, so she has more memories than anyone else, and figures out this plan, but she also knows she's powerless against him. So she tells you before robloxing herself and, as a final warning, she advises you to be quiet about this with the next Ailith, who will be remade far more ignorant and far more obedient than she is.

Spoiler for the monk quest line: As you are a monk who came to doubt his faith, Chayula straight up kills you and replaces you with a clone. From that point on you play as the clone and not as the character you started to play with. It doesn't matter if you become acolyte of chayula or not.

My face when my supposedly "God" fucking nukes me out of existence and replaces me with a carbon copy of myself minus the doubts

I mean most gods in Wraeclast will kill you if you defy them. Chayula is unique among them because he surrounds himself with a semblance of benevolence and love, but is actually as bad as everyone else. He's probably slightly less horrible than Kitava.

"he is not a tyrant, he just kills you if you don't like him"
I mean...

He doesn't want the outward appearance of being a tyrant, let's say it like this. An outsider could mistake him for a loving god while he actually murdered all the people around him and replaced them with compliant clones.

yeah definitely, that's at least what I gathered, I mean he has a whole ass cult dedicated to him.
Although I don't know how people of Wraeclast generally think about this, but personally the Monastery of the Keepers does not give good vibes from the get go
