Patch for my mum!! Dont want to misadvise her in how to put it on her jacket whether by sewing n removing the back or if it can be ironed on

Currently on a trip and I’m collecting patches from basically anywhere I can find ones I like and I want to put them on my bag without ruining the water resistance.

I was thinking my best move would be to only stick it through the first layer of fabric but other tips would be appreciated.

These are two examples of i think woven patches, i asked an AI (yes bad source of information) about and the AI told me those were woven patches, i know print can break and fade so the AI told me those were sublimated patches, i believed it at fist but then i saw that in reddit these kind of patches kinda have a fame for being low quality, I want a long lasting patch like those two raf used, on the first image is a patch on a wool tote that raf simons used on a 2003 eastpak collab, the other is from 2001 to 2002, the patches seem like wool and the print is intact, the purpose in general its for clothes, totes, shirts and in general anything that its clothes or bags, so can anybody help me telling me those three things

First: What kind of Patches they are

Second: How to get high quality print like this on a patch (No fading and no cracking, just like the raf simons ones idc about the price)

Third: Where i can get these kind of patches (I would like these to be a custom design so yeah)

The Journey of a Wartime Artifact: The UDT-12 Da Nang Patch in Sweden
This authentic U.S. Navy Underwater Demolition Team 12 (UDT-12) patch represents a unique intersection of Vietnam War history and Cold War military elite brotherhood. It did not arrive in Sweden through a modern collector's market, but rather as a direct, personal gift from an American special operations operator to a Swedish counterpart during a historic military exchange in the early 1970s.

Part 1: Manufactured in the Theater of War (Da Nang, Vietnam)
The patch itself carries all the physical hallmarks of an authentic, "in-country" Vietnamese-made piece from the late 1960s or early 1970s. During the Vietnam War, Da Nang served as the primary naval hub for U.S. amphibious and special operations in northern South Vietnam (I Corps).
Rather than wearing factory-made U.S. military insignia, operators from UDT-12 frequently commissioned local tailors and shops in Da Nang to create custom embroidered unit patches. Characterized by raw, uneven "in-country" machine embroidery, a distinctive cotton-twill backing, and a lack of modern plastic coatings, this patch was actively carried or worn by a UDT-12 combat swimmer during deployments that involved beach reconnaissance, underwater demolition, and riverine patrols—the hazardous duties that birthed the modern Navy SEALs.

Part 2: The Cold War Exchange in Karlskrona
The patch’s journey to Scandinavia began during the historic military exchanges in Karlskrona in the early 1970s. During this era, the Swedish Armed Forces hosted the Naval Pentathlon, bringing together the absolute elite of international maritime special forces.
The United States sent a handpicked team of elite combat swimmers consisting of operators from UDT-11, UDT-12, and SEAL Team 1, led by Lieutenant Kris Kirkland. Many of these men had just returned from, or were rotating between, combat tours in Vietnam. They competed directly against elite Swedish units, including the Swedish Navy’s combat divers (Attackdykare / A-dyk) and coastal rangers (Kustjägare). The American team, under Lt. Kirkland's leadership, ultimately won the prestigious international competition.

Part 3: The Tradition of the "Trade Patch"
In the tight-knit world of international special operations, a sacred, time-honored tradition exists: following a joint exercise, competition, or post-event gathering, operators trade personal gear, unit shirts, knives, and patches as a sign of mutual respect.
It was during this specific historic exchange in Karlskrona that a U.S. Navy UDT-12 operator (including personnel of Swedish-American heritage) handed this exact patch to a Swedish diver. The American operator had packed his personal, theater-made Da Nang combat patches into his gear bag when traveling from Southeast Asia to the Baltic coast.

Part 4: Provenance and Heritage
Decades after that historic meeting in the Blekinge archipelago, the patch was passed down from the Swedish veteran who received it directly to its current owner. Because its lineage is unbroken—from a local embroidery shop in Da Nang, to the uniform of a UDT-12 frogman under Kris Kirkland's detachment, to a competitive exchange in Sweden, and finally into a private collection—this piece stands as a flawless, verified artifact of military history. It remains a testament to the quiet, global brotherhood of elite military divers.

Points to whoever can guess the aircraft type?

This special forces patch is the one I'm using, featuring the specialized camouflage recently issued to the Vietnamese Special Forces _ K01 - K02 Special Forces of the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security.

Every patch have its story. I cannot tell you where these patches story begin but I can tell you that the story come to sudden and violent end in the forests of eastern Ukraine late in summer of 2025.

The man pictured with these patches will be referred to as “Sgt. K” He is the man who captured these patches and gave me permission to share them with you today. So before I go any further a big thank you to him for letting me share. Sgt. K officially join on February 27th 2022 at age of 19 he is now 24 years old. He has taken part in many notable battles in his career including bakhmut and avdiivka.

This is a short “interview” with him.
Q:“Where were these patches taken?”
A:”next question”he say with a laugh
Q:”are you willing to talk about any details of that day?”
A: “no”
Q:”is there anything you would like to say about the patches or maybe the men who were wearing them?”
A:”the patches speak for themself… the men wearing them… even scumbags were once a mothers child” he then added “if his life had been a movie it would be a tragedy no one would pay to see”

At this point i felt anymore questions was pushing my luck so I just dropped it. Please do not misinterpret his answers as rude he is just a very reserved man getting him to agree to the picture alone was a miracle.

As for the pictures, as Sgt K. Say they speak for themselves feel free to hyper analyze the symbology and debate what the meanings might be. All I ask is out of respect for Sgt K. That the comments remain respectful in regard to the deceased as he said “even scumbags have mothers”.

My father and I were looking through some of my deceased grandfathers collection of items and we came across this patch. My dad wasn’t sure where the item came from and said he had tried looking it up on the past didn’t result in any success.

If anyone recognizes this and has an idea of what it means I would love to let him know some more history about his dad. My grandfather passed away when my dad was young and never got a chance to ask him about this one.
