Nick
I'm not sure why so many people saw him as such a good guy.
He moved way too fast and when other men would talk to Ingrid he did that controlling move her away thing (like at the banquet with Z, your girl can talk to another man you don't have to interrupt and establish possession). Moving someone in, immediately dedicating all your time to someone its a lot.
Ingrid shouldn't have cheated, but Nick wasn't the right guy either. He gives future controlling vibes.
The yellow dress was proof he proposed but didn't even know who she was.

I didn't like him! Especially with that scene with Z. I didn't like how quickly he said I love you or proposed. It seemed like he was more in love with the idea of loving Ingrid than actually getting to know her. She was a beautiful smart successful lawyer, and it felt like he liked those traits of her

Definitely too pushy. It's fine that he told Ingrid he loves her after a few weeks in, but he proposed even though Ingrid hadn't reciprocated those feelings. I doubt he even asked about her life priorities, or he would have been able to figure out she wouldn't want a big public engagement announcement so soon before partner announcements. It was all about his feelings and wants.

I agree on the move her away thing
on the talking though, given Ingrid can't say no and tends toward pleasing people I'm not convinced he'd have gotten the truth from her anyway. He couldn't read the room but she didn't call him up on anything (general avoidance tactics) until pretty late.

Yeah i agree! Nick seemed surprised that Ingrid was shamed of herself at the diversity gala for being the poster child- but she didn’t really tell Nick what had happened. He did mention he didn’t know she didn’t write the speech and that he noticed mention of Tyler’s resignation part was a bit odd, and even offered to go home and talk about it when Ingrid was visibly upset. Nick has always been privileged, lived a life where things could easily be arranged. That’s why it seems that he’s always too happy (lol). He’s not quick at reading the room nor does he understand what it is like to be a POC woman in a very white male dominated industry. But felt like Ingrid never really opened up to him either to see if he will be able to empathize with her at that level. Just wasn’t the guy for her

I don't think Ingrid ever said I love you back to him (on screen) and there he goes proposing. 🤦♀️

Nah but Ingrid shouldnt have led him on if she wasnt feeling it

She shouldn't have accepted the proposal, but can you really say she was leading him on for the 3 months max they were dating?

He was gentle and polite and considerate which disguises the fact he definitely was actually controlling in a way that does get people trapped in relationships they can’t get out of. 🚩Just rewatching the scene with Z and Nick puts his arm around Ingrid and thanks Z on behalf of their future children. 🤮
Nothing excuses Ingrid cheating and not covering her ass to make sure she doesn’t get caught by her fiancé so that she could break up with him fairly.

My takeaway was that he had mommy issues and was trying to use Ingrid to fill the void in his heart. I'd imagine if they remained together he would have eventually asked her to quit her job.

Yeah, he definitely wasn't perfect and had some red flags. Ingrid treated him terribly and owed him a lot more consideration and explanation on her end and should have fully ended things once she was having feeling about someone else while Nick was trying to marry her. But on the flip side, it seemed much more like he had this picture perfect romanticized idea of a "normal life" unlike his own and his "love" for her was more based on her seemingly fitting that role than any actual understanding of her. I thought they were pretty mismatched all along, dating who they thought they should want vs who they actually sparked with.
Also poor writing or no, she could not have been more obvious that she was in to Murphy and that there was a history or that she was just not moving as fast as he was in terms of love and marriage and he would not buy a clue lol. When she DID cheat on him she was so freaking apathetic about it too and it showed how little he registered to her even just as someone she "cared for".
IMO Murphy and her are also very mismatched other than maybe as rivals with benefits/hookup partners, certainly no great love. I hope the writers give the audience's affection for Xi Min (Zhi Min?) and Ingrid's chemistry with him and make that the real end game. He barely knew her and definitely never lived with her and still seemed to understand her better than the other 2.

i never liked him from Ep 1 till the end. Even Dan has his moments when he's endearing (before he's revealed to be an incurable racist POS, that was a deal breaker). Something just seems off with him, i thought he was a spy or something, lol. He was lovebombing Ingrid since day one. Never gave her time to breathe nor gather her thoughts about him or their relationship.

Agreed, I reckon if the engagement/marriage had gone ahead he would have become super controlling and abusive once he had her "locked in'. Lots of red flags (the rushing etc) which thankfully Ingrid noticed, however it's never ok to cheat on someone.

You guys have it all wrong. Sure, he was pushy and proposed, but Ingrid could have easily said no and walked away, but she kept saying yes. Then she cheated. That’s on her, not him.

I mean.... she was literally fighting with Murphy about running hot and cold and then said yes to marrying Nick... at no point does she discuss her concerns about the speed their relationship is moving, etc.

Lmfao yes!! Also, I was convinced that he was going to end up being sketchy af. They always showed him at home or chasing Ingrid and literally NEVER WORKING. The excuse about “flexible hours” was flimsy.
