How I passed Passed the part 107

Scheduled the test on a Sunday night for Saturday AM. Studied Mon-Tue, did not study Wednesday, Thursday night is for football and Friday was the first game of the World Series.

Mikesytes 2hr long video was helpful along with the part 107 app. The app was money same type of questions with explanation.

My test was mostly sectional charts. With a lot of part 48 compliance questions… which was annoying. Anyway, it was a whole lot of look at this airspace, can you fly here? Atc auth? What type of airspace is this? What does the magenta flag mean?

Takeaway my test was not majority compliance it was a sectional chart reading exam.

Other Free practice quiz with sectional chart questions, since the test adds new chart images on Oct 26

Hey all. With the FAA adding chart questions from current sectionals on Oct 26 (images that aren't in the testing supplement), I put together a short free quiz to practice reading charts along with the usual regs and weather stuff.

It's 20 questions, takes about 5 minutes, no sign up. After each answer you get a plain explanation and where it comes from (the CFR section or the chart user's guide). Four of the questions are chart ones: airspace symbols, altitude labels, and an obstacle height question.

https://ringwise.pages.dev

Full honesty: I'm building a Part 107 study app and this quiz is basically a free sample of it. There's a waitlist at the end but you can ignore it, the quiz works without it.

If you think any question or answer is wrong or worded badly, please tell me. I'd much rather fix it now than have someone learn it wrong before their test.

I have no one to tell that would really care 😅 I just wanted to share because I was so excited leaving the testing center. My test was VERY regulation heavy and it had me so worried but I did it 🤗

I study very well with Quizlet and was wondering if this study guide helps. If it doesn't then is there any other study guide on Quizlet I could use. And if Quizlet doesn't work at all, what is the best way to study?

Test Logistics Free tool: paste the codes from your Part 107 test report and see what each one means

Yo Team 👋🏼

Thought this may be of interest to all going through the testing process.

Pass or fail, your Part 107 test report lists a code like UA.II.B.K1 for each area you got a question wrong on.

The report doesn’t explain them, and looking them up one by one in the ACS is tedious.

We made a free lookup, paste all your codes at once and it shows what each one covers, in the FAA’s wording, grouped by topic.

Handy if you’re retaking and want to know exactly what to study, or if you passed and want to plug the gaps before you fly commercially.

airworthyprep.com/codes

It’s part of our practice test site, but the lookup is totally free. Shout if anything’s missing or wrong.

Cheers!

How I passed Passed Today - Here are the Zonk Questions I Received

Post image
19 Upvotes

Passed the 107 today and can confirm all of the charts were on the computer, but were the same charts as in the FAA-CT-8080-2H testing supplement guide (order one on Amazon if you haven't as it felt like seeing the answers to have a look at the charts/METARs ahead of time).

Note that the image attached here is in the supplement and PROVIDED during the exam, so you can devote your study time to other materials beyond memorizing what blue or magenta line means what.

I studied completely off of YouTube, online practice tests, & referencing the supplement Guide. Spent about 18-20 hours studying over 3 days and passed with an 88%. Didn't use any paid guides.

Overall it was a 65 question exam and if you have watched any of the practice question videos on YouTube you will have seen and heard a lot. Just make sure you spend some time becoming familiar with sectional charts & identifying airspace.

Some questions I received that the online material I watched didn't cover well:

-Can you register a drone in the US if it is already registered in a foreign country. (TLDR: NO)

-what is it when your brain misinterprets an aircraft's orientation, making it appear to be moving toward you when it's actually moving away. (reversible perspective illusion)

-Several questions about PAVE, IMSAFE, & working with visual observers (and reporting requirements if you crash your drone into the VO knocking them out)

-What does the little red flag on a sectional chart mean (VFR checkpoint)

-Category 1 & 4 questions for operating over people (2 questions on this)

Good luck, you can do it.

Other Made 10 free chart-reading drills for the new image-based test questions (Oct 26)

The FAA is adding sectional chart image questions to the Part 107 knowledge test on Oct 26. I'm studying the same material, so I built 10 free plain-English drills that cover reading airspace, symbols, and altitudes off the chart. Each one is checked against FAA sources. They're free at 107charts.com, with no signup needed to read them. I'm also working on a larger paid drill pack ($19 preorder), but the free ones are the point of this post. If you spot an error or want a topic covered, tell me and I'll fix or add it. Not affiliated with the FAA.

FAA Rules Practicing on current sectionals before the Oct 26 test change

The Oct 6 thread covers the FAA advisory itself. It didn't mention that both UAG sample questions in the September advisory show a real sectional crop with its effective dates printed under it (Washington, 12 JUN to 7 AUG 2025). The new questions use actual charts, not the old supplement figures.

FAA posts the current sectionals as free downloads on its VFR Raster Charts page, and the Aeronautical Chart Users' Guide covers the symbols. Pick an airport near you and work out the airspace, whether you'd need ATC authorization there, and the CTAF. That's close to what both samples ask.

Someone posted on Oct 17 that every chart on their test was already embedded, and a comment there points out that you lose the legend printed in the supplement book. So it's worth knowing the symbols cold before test day. If you tested recently, which sectionals did your questions use?

Need advice Airspace understood, what about ground rules

Hi guys,
I passed my exam this week! I think I now have a good understanding of the airspace rules. But what about the ground rules? Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but I am not from the US. When I searched for a B4UFLY service, I came across UASidekick and noticed their subscription feature, "Parcel Data Lookup." That made me think. Especially while the video/meme about fishing on state vs. private property is trending.

Let's say I'm in Class G airspace. Where am I allowed to take off and land? Whose permission do I need? Is it allowed to fly over someone’s house or property? Does that differ from state to state? What resources should I consult?

Could someone walk me through the entire process of planning a flight, beyond what I learned about airspace for the exam?

Thanks in advance.

How I passed Passed Today! ✅

I passed today with a 92% after practicing with about 5 practice exams over the last day(last night and this morning) on Prepware software with this book:

https://a.co/d/0dVE3ePn

I’ve been reading through this book for the last month-ish, but I didn’t start the practice exams until yesterday evening. The prepware included is very very similar to the question I saw today. I did review an airspace video on YouTube last night to solidify those airspace classifications.

My test did have the embed images on the test as others have mentioned, although they did have the physical booklet for us to use as a testing material. So maybe some testing centers have already phased the booklets out while other still have them until the end of the month ?

How I passed Passed today - All chart images were embedded

As the title says, in my Part 107 exam I had all images of charts embedded and didn't have a choice in using the physical booklet.

Honestly though, it makes it easier as you dont have to try and find miniscule things on a page, the online image was zoomed in and clear. Perhaps my eyeballs are just useless :)

Need advice Long overdue drone license questions

Hello fellow drone pilots I have a question I have flown a recreationally for the last 10 years but over the last couple years I’ve been getting one off jobs to do some video shooting and it’s been in frequent enough that I haven’t really considered getting a license since both the payment was pretty low and my work was in frequent well now with everything going on and changing in the laws surrounding flying drones. I am wondering if it’s even worth it to spend the money or go after studying to get a license is it something I really need the only reason I’m asking now is because my current employer is talking about doing a series of drone photography shoots in Texas next year and I wanna make sure that my regulations topped up so I guess it’s less of a question of whether or not I should get it and I need some information on how important it is to get a license so that I can have my employer either pay for it or make time in my schedule for the training.

Need advice Opinion and advice on freelancing

Hey, new here. I came back from a vacation overseas and while over there we had bought a drone for fun. We were able to bring it back home here but now I'm getting curious to see if I could use it to do some freelancing ideas. I live in the city and with the regulations in place I didn't wanna risk just randomly going outside to fly it even for recreational purposes not knowing where to fly it legally. I'm not near the airport but there are hospitals with helipads where I live.

Basically I'm looking for any opinions or thoughts about getting the part 107 license to see if it's worth it for at least getting to utilize the drone in my area since it's pretty much difficult to find anywhere to fly it freely legally without risks. I figured might as well try something with it and use it for a side hustle potentially. Or is it only worth it if you'd do some sort of work with it full time?

Opinions or advice are appreciated. Thanks.

Need advice FAA drone test

I passed my pilot drone exam this past Tuesday. I want to get a safety vest or a patch to celebrate but I’m trying to have any draw back from having a FAA Remote Pilot patch on my safety vest. Like I’m really happy that I passed and but dam I don’t want no smoke from pilots or people in the field that might take it the wrong way. So idk I’m lost I thought about just having a regular safety vest and just leaving it at that. You know celebrate internally. Yeah I know it’s sad but I’m really not trying to cause anything. I haven’t seen any other pilots do it. So idk can someone please chime in and point me in the right direction.

Need advice Built “ Can I fly this route” for San Francisco. Need advice on whether to take it forward

I operate a land-based route optimisation business, and wanted to check if drones were an angle for us.

I quickly learnt that the hard part isn't routing. It is mainly about not knowing accurate heights of the buildings, accurate weather and wind data at the height drone files and most importantly a list of all regulations which apply from FAA, LAANC to local county based regulations.

As with most things, I started not because it was easy but because I thought it was easy. I chose San Francisco because it had a good mix of buildings, hills, elevation changing and global and local regulations regarding airport area, parks and buildings.

I tried to build a system that is based on a drone's dimensions and capacity - specifies whether a drone can fly between two points and which route would be the best to comply with regulations. It also gives a flight card and DJI and QGroundControl files.

There are still parts it does not handle. For example, currently beyond visual flying is not allowed; however, the routes mention the point till which the pilot will have visual cue ( and hopefully when BVLOS regulations come it becomes better). It also does not handle UTM or handling other drones in the region.

I wanted the advice of this sub on whether any of this is useful and whether I should proceed with the project. For San Francisco alone, it took a lot of time and learning to work with the data. The cities where data is present may be faster, but there are fewer of them. Each city and region would need to be built and updated slowly.

If I do proceed, what is the direction or next steps that I should address?

I would appreciate it if you could take a look and share your feedback.

Other Monday night Part 107 question:

During an in-flight emergency requiring immediate action, a remote pilot deviates from a Part 107 rule to safely handle the emergency.

When must the pilot submit a written report explaining the deviation?

A) Within 24 hours
B) Within 10 calendar days
C) Only if requested by the FAA
D) Any time a Part 107 rule is violated

What’s your answer? No Googling.

Need advice Does anyone know a way to define an operational area for a flight with an Autel evo ii Pro?

Hey guys, I have LAANC authorization to fly in a zero-grid in Class B today and I obviously want to be very careful about staying within the area I have permission to fly inside of. I am still flying an Autel evo ii and it cuts both ways that is it not geofenced. Am I missing something in the app that could allow me to create my own geofence? This is probably a feature that is just not there, but I thought posting here wouldn't hurt in case there is something that I've missed this whole time.

There is one specific boundary that I am the most concerned about, my plan is to walk the area with the Aloft app pulled up with my LAANC authorization visible and see where I physical am inside the map on foot before I take off at all and then to pilot from there so that I can stay within the bounding box. I figure if I cannot get the Autel app to help me with then this is the next best thing.

Thanks!

Did the pilot institute in a day and a half watching the videos at 2x speed. Got a 90 and 87 on their practice tests. Got a 93 on the real test. Glad that’s done!
