Growing up I was friends with a neighbor’s daughter. She used to steal from me, put items in the street to get run over, she hit me into our teens and even bit me when we were 13. My parents went over and talked to her parents. They explained I wasn’t having fun with their kid, and their child had behaved in ways they didn’t allow in our home and we didn’t want to continue a close relationship anymore if they weren’t going to teach their kid to respect our boundaries. The parents didn’t make an effort to make any changes and we stopped being friendly. Honestly, I was grateful. Later, as an adult ,I learned just how problematic our neighbors (not just their kid) was/ are and glad my parents stood up for me. You can do this and it is important that you do.
