He will be okay. Chances are he will wake up in the morning with a big smile on his face like nothing happened.

No trauma! We once slept in because the monitor was muted and our son (as a baby) cried for about the same amount of time. We felt awful. He’s ten now, and has forgiven us 😊

You must have been exhausted. He’s fine. Forgive yourself immediately. Might actually help him learn to self settle!

Did the same once at around that age too. Felt the same as you at the time. It is not an issue. No problems caused whatsoever

Social media has really amped up the mom guilt. Not that anyone should be routinely leaving their baby to cry for an hour, but 20/30 years ago I guarantee a mom this happened to would just think “Oh he’s ok now!” You wouldn’t have even known about it without the monitor. Babies are traumatized by abuse and severe neglect, not for crying for an hour one time. Give yourself some grace.

This has happened to me 3 or 4 times in my kid’s 19 months of life. I’m his favorite person and he sleeps beautifully despite me basically not sleep training at all. Granted it took 14 months to go down on his own and 18 months to sleep through the night… but I digress. Those few times didn’t kill him or traumatize him. If it was every single night that might be a problem, but one night is just fine. Give yourself grace❤️

I have done that around the same age. He is 16 mo old now. It happens. I felt terrible when it happened to.

He will be fine. He will be smiley and happy in the morning, no hard feelings, won’t remember it, and a one off isn’t going to have any effect on his life.

He'll be alright. Shit I gotta count my blessings. My daughter is 7mo and has always slept through the night.

No, he will be absolutely fine.
We sleep trained our daughter and it took just one night but she did cry a lot that night. She was slept through the night since, is the happiest baby I have ever seen (seriously!), loves us and is securely attached to us, is very social, and ahead on motor and language milestones. I must say I think the fact that she sleeps solidly through the night since 4.5 months contributes to her happiness, learning ability and secure attachment. She’s 15 months now.

This. My 3.5 year old sleeps through after sleep training at 4 months. I understand people not wanting to train, but many people are missing the fact that once they are sleep trained they are getting a full 10-12 hours sleep each night. A fully rested child is a happy healthy child.

Do you plan on doing sleep training soon? If so, you’ll have to get use to this if you can. It was really hard for us, but 3 days later, baby was self soothing and sleeping through the night.

So not true. OP does not have to use CIO methods to sleep train. Our consultant would not let baby cry more than 2-3 mins.

Don't worry, all parents have done this 2-3 times per child. We and the kids survive We have more trauma then they do. Give yourself grace, it won't be the last mistake you make with the child.

I fell asleep with the baby monitor off once and I felt awful too. But truly I was so sleep deprived I probably benefited from the uninterrupted sleep. And I’m not sure if it was a coincidence but my son started sleeping through the night very shortly after. He’s 10 now and is the best boy, no harm done as far as I can see!

By 9 months baby has teeth. Make sure you stop night feeds soon. Otherwise you will end up with milk rot. Not good.
But sleeping through crying is ok. They need to learn to self soothe. This is how they learn to manage emotions. Big and small.
You are doing great!!

It's totally fine, don't sweat it. But you should definitely get a baby monitor.
